i remember when people said you don't need more than …i remember when people said you don't need more than 6mphttps://kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htmIf investing in an expensive camera, it would makes sense to future proof by buying the latest. Imagine your mates in the pub zooming all the way into their 60mp photos and you only have some pixelated abomination to show.

Sorry but you’re talking absolute rubbish.

You know there has always been an R line? I.e a line with more megapixels - useful for wildlife, portrait and sometimes landscape when cropping is necessary, not useful for a lot of other stuff. A7III and A7RIV are two completely different cameras that serve different purposes for different markets.

They ‘latest’ is a camera that for example, wedding photographers wouldn’t touch.

When you refer to an ‘expensive camera’ - bit of a difference here? 2k, all that will mean is you lose more money on it. If you think zooming into an A7III image shows you a ‘pixelated abomination’, then again you’re showing you mustn’t have touched a decent camera for a whilst. Not to mention the beast of a computer you’d need to handle these files, your 3.5k just turned into 5k. There are a number of downsides to having so many benefits and it is reaching the point of diminishing returns in my opinion. Megapixels aren’t everything.

Because that camera is 3.5k and also aimed at a completely different market altogether.

Not many people want 60 odd mp put it that way.

Just ignore him, he's a windup merchant. Half the time he's insulting cameras and claim an iphone can take better pics, then he goes on and recommends a camera.

Well the A7R IV will cost £3499 body only. And you need very very good glass to make use of that resolution. And it creates huge files that are difficult to handle. And you really need very very fast and expensive SD cards to avoid filling up the buffer too quickly.

But apart from that, no idea.

Processing should not be an issue. If you have a mac, a thunderbot 3 drive can handle files of this size and on windows you can go for NVME raid. Storage is cheap and so are CPUs. 60mp is nothing compared to the 100mp files from medium format camera.

Because, it’s not that good of a price and can be had as a kit for under £1500 from some places.
One of the best full frame cameras out there beating more expensive competitors - I paid less than this for a brand new a7 iii camera with the same kit lens as shown here via eBay - probably grey import who cares as never had an issue with it and shows up on Sony website as covered under warranty - eBay seller also covered import duties win win. A7 iiii fits my ronin sc fine.Have the r7 iv on Pre-order

I dont know who your friends are but the average joe is happy showing you they're 2mp facebook photos, 60mp is over kill for 99.9% of the population.

Last week I did graduation photography and was able to crop in with my A7iii, 24MP is enough, and yes it would mean I can crop in more with 60MP and that would help, however it is a lot more expensive to get the A7 iv
What I find suprising is we still use sd cards when the cheapest tablet has 16gb memory.
£3.5k and you still have to buy memory!
256gb msata is only £35, are we being mugged?

how often do you remove your 16gb memory module from the tablet and put in another device?
how big is a msata drive vs memory card?
3.5k isnt even the deal price you just saw something and burbled

And this body isn’t aimed at 99% of the population. It’s clearly a prosumer snapper with a prosumer price. You can quite happily crop and zoom and still print out a half decent a4 print with this and stick it on your wall. That’s not happening with a phone cam (usually)

I think someone mentioned the new sony camera hence £3.5k. I doubt it will have an internal msata even though the files will be large, 40mb and with burst shooting X10, 400mb in 1second
My point was how we are conditioned to accept certain practices, memory is cheap just now but we still have to spend extra on a card which could be included in the form of hard memory, which is the reference to tablet memory. With a wifi enabled camera we should not need to remove the card at all just connect and transfer no need for open press eject.

P.s. Your mobile phone comes with more memory than your camera. A £100 mobile will come with more memory than your camera, generally.

someone mentioned the other camera as a semi relevant point

you then used someones semi relevant point to make a wholly irrelevant one

the memory in a mobile phone is also irrelevant, like your tablet you are not removing it to another device at will are you? or are you meaning the msata drive in your own mobile?

oh...
