This camera body only price is £1500. this was voted hot 1-2 months ago when was at 1200 or something. I find it at £850 and people are voting it cold now? These go for 900+ on ebay USED

My weird sense of humor dude..I am fully aware this is a good price. I have an A6100 which is great. I bought an extra 55-210 on top of the original 18-50.

I think what you have is a5100

Although I'm a Fuji shooter, this is freaking HOT

32653107-iAr49.jpgCheapest it's been according to C3. Seriously considering this as an upgrade to my NEX6.

It is scary to read your confidence...I do have A6000 and 6100 was a typo

Scorchio!

Been tempted in the past to upgrade my a6300 (mainly for IBIS to use non-stabilised lenses, touch-to-focus, and the buffer).

At £850 after cash back, this is a great find - thank you.

Hot at £999, then I saw cashback too! Hot hot hot!

Yup, it's too tempting for me to ignore at £850... Even if the 6700 / 6800 is around the corner, Sony will just ramp up the price as usual and keep the 6500 as is.

I own 3x6300 and 1x6500. this is very tempting when the 6300 sells used for 600+ but i really want a 4k60p capable compact to replace a 6300. wishing a7s3 or a6700 comes with 4k60

A6000 and A6500 are not comparable. one overheats recording 1080P, the other downsamples 6K to 4K

Argh, if I had the cash right now I would be on this like a shot to replace my A6000.

got a a7r2..a6000...rx100mk4... but still tempted by this, best in it's class

you can literally keep the box shut and sell it on ebay for 950 as new tomorrow. (wont really make a profit after ebay fees though)

and a 16-50 rather than 18-50....

would probably be seen better in the audiovisual category rather than 'other'

VERY good deal. Considering new, grey imports go for 900-1000 on eBay. Very tempting although I have a Canon 80d, would be nice to have a dedicated 4k shooter.

Any chance for a6500 to be cheaper than £850 before summer 2018, or after cash back promotion has finished they will hold the price of around a £1000?

It’ll be back to around £1,200 at some retailers until the next cash back promo next summer I’d imagine. Then you need a flash sale as well.

If the a6700 debuts it’ll likely be priced higher £1,800-£2000?) as Sony tend to keep the current line-up and increase new model prices. See A7/R/S etc. Then it depends if rumoured upgrades (4k60? battery? 15fps burst? headphone jack? flip up/out screen?) are worth the extra.

Hard to see the 6500 going much below £850 for a while, especially from UK reputable seller with UK warranty.

meh - good price but just too high for me to be properly tempted!

lol @ the price predictors above though

What price are you looking for?

Can anyone recommend a decent all round lens for this? Like when you go travelling and want to get decent shots of places like NY etc. (Not interested in video).

The Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS (SELP1650) is decent, and tiny. The step-up of this is the Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm F4 ZA OSS (SEL1670Z). Both offer a good usable focal range. I would seriously recommend picking up the 35mm F1.8 as well. Don't forget, this is an APS-C sized sensor so you have to apply a multiplication of 1.5x to calculate an equivalent focal range of a full frame 35mm sensor.

Assuming you prefer zoom-lens and something better than the kit lens, 18-105(~£400) and 16-70(~£700), I haven't use them but both get very good reviews.

Thanks for that, a6300 seems good for me, but I know I will need to record a descent movie in 4k from time to time and simply would need something better than a mobile phone. A6500 sounds perfect fir me, what I'm afraid of if I don't buy it now I will regret my decision later...

ofc if you wanted the pz16-50 you wouldn't buy it new - it is not worth the retail box price
the only smart way to get it is as a bundle/kit lens where it typically adds ~£100 or less to the body price or buy 2nd hand from someone who did that

meh really tempted but would need to shift my old cameras - hate selling - who wants to be a broker?

Why is that the thumbnail LOL

Why is that the thumbnail LOL

its supposed to represent the stabilisation unit inside but overlaid
looks like someone broke the camera when looking at thumbnail though with it being about 2cm across on my screen!

I have the 35mm F1.8 Sony, Zeiss 16-70mm F4 , and Sony 18-200 F3.5-5.6 (original). I've also tried the Sony 18-105mm F4 and Sony 55-210mm F3.5-5.6.

For a walk-around, I'd go with the Zeiss 16-70mm. It's got a decent range, is sharp (get a good copy!), and is very pocketable/usable. I also always take the 35mm F1.8 for low light.

Others will say the 18-105mm... but having tried this it's massive by comparison, makes the camera front heavy, and definitely doesn't fit in a jacket pocket as easily. Plus, whilst the zoom might be internal with Power Zoom, I did not like the focus/zoom-by-wire as it lags ever so slightly but enough to frustrate to get sent back. Much prefer manual zoom of the Zeiss for instant start and stop and the Zeiss was consistently sharper and about a third of a stop brighter (T* goodness in action).

Of course with IBIS it opens up non-stabilised lens options...

Hah! I think there's more chance of it bouncing back to £1,200 than whatever you're waiting for any time soon.

You've still got time...

Sigma 30mm is a good lens for sony apsc - small , sharp , cheap . . . oops , did I say cheap?
dxomark.com/bes…ms/
I doubt you will notice image quality improvement from early sony nex6/7.
Touch to focus is useful , and stabilization - got 'em in old oly 16mp.
Any 4k video without sound and good stabilize is gonna look amateur.
I personally would have thought FF was more desirable and don't really get this camera.
As someone said - "the equipment has to be just good enough . . . .the rest is . . .user "

You are f-ing kidding me! I just picked mine up!

Edit: Amazon playing hardball, won't refund the difference (which they have done in the past). Gotta return it for a refund with £4 restocking fee and reorder.

Tell them, that you disappointed, been with them for so long etc. Talk to customer services. They should refund you the difference. They did refund me couple a quid when I bought highly discounted lawnmower back in the summer. btw, had to remove my previous comment due to me being very silly trying to help other people without buying it myself :), lucky I left one in the basket when I got home all cameras were sold! Now waiting for stock.

There's one "used like new" for £940,79 right now!

I'm going to call Sony in the morning and see if that will be eligible for the cashback. I don't think it will.
