First post so go easy!

Sony's latest offering to those wishing to enter into the world of high definition home entertainment.

Just taken delivery of mine, was going to opt for the S350 model, which seems to be retailing around the £190 mark when i came accross this deal from Dabs.com (cheapest i'd seen it previously was approx £275)

Sony's BDP-S550 gives you the keys to the world of high definition graphics! It comes with an HDMI socket that improvesthe quality of images to Full HD standard, and a 7
1 analogue output for crystal clear sound! The BDP-S550 is compatible with DVDs thanks to the 1080p upscaling feature, and includes a BD-Live option that allows you to download additional Blu-ray content from the web through theEthernet connection
The BDP-S550 also supports USB flash devices with a maximum memory of up to 1 GB, (comes with a 1Gb card)
What's more, the BDP-S550 is supplied with a remote control with backlit buttons, letting you flick through your discs easily, evenin the dark!

The upscaling really does look great and the machine boots up in pretty much the same time as a regular DVD player, really worth a punt at this price!

All the best

Forgot to add - you get two free blu ray discs with this product providing you register it before Feb '09 (Batman Begins and Casino Royale)

That's a different model.

Forgot to add ...voted hot.

Ah so it is yeah. The only major difference though is the 550 has DTS-HD, they both still have Dolby True HD though

Wrong model.......

I'd also like to add, unless you have a new AV amp which decodes sound via hdmi, how do you get the nice HD sounds from the 350? You need the 550 which has analogue outputs.

I thought a review might help change people's minds.

Amazing price for top of the range? Surely this is the year we'll see blue ray players selling below the £100 mark in supermarkets all the time?

I think that's realistic by next Christmas. I'm waiting for most discs to start being sub- £10, then it'll go huge.
