Sony Bravia 40w705c 40 inch widescreen full HD 1080p led tv £320 @ sainsburys instore

Have been looking for a good value 40 inch full hd tv (we don't have space for anything bigger 4k at this size appears to be overkill). Had my eye on one of these for a while but saw them in my local sainsburys (hazel grove, stockport) at this price, so had one reserved before going and getting John Lewis to price match.

RRP on amazon is £549, but everyone appears to be selling for £379 (£369 at some online places), so £320 appeared a good price.

by the time I had got John Lewis to price match, my Sainsburys had sold out, so wouldn't match the deal. I then returned to sainsburys to buy with 'only' 1 year warranty (so hope it holds together)

I looked online, but couldn't find it there so looks like it's instore only, and selling out fast but thought some people out there may be lucky.

Puzzling post - so OP did you get one from Sainsburys or JL ?

sainsburys, John Lewis could match it.

4k isn't overkill cause it does look better even at 40" but i do get your point. Personally I would spend a little more and get a 4k or go for a Samsung 40" smart which in my opinion are better all round TVs

Ok cheers' glad you got one from the place that were doing the deal ( sainsburys ) and JL blew you out on price matching it due to sainsburys having little / no stock.

Only because I'm old fashioned and don't believe in all this price matching crap' JL are happy to give only you a deal but charge everybody else a higher price because they can / will.

I get the advantage of the 5 year warranty and partially understand why you tried to get this from JL' but it gets my goat JL encourage people to find stuff from other retailers and go to them 'cap in hand' asking if they'll match it

Not voting due to the morals of the post.

Samsung isn't a better all round TV as most of them have out of sync TV tuners and crap response times for gaming.
You ideally need a Sony if you're looking for a TV to do everything from films to games or Panasonic depending on the model.

most of them have out of sync tuners..yeeeaaah ok!!! I've had panasonic, lg, sony and samsung..and the samsung just do everything with less issues

These do come with a five year warranty from Sony. More details at superfi.co.uk/ima…pdf. Bought one from Currys last week and Sony registered it happily. So far happy with the TV.

Sony fastest gaming response and great for films.
Panasonic great for films blacks, motion, colours media playback etc and they currently have the best studio quality panel money can by at the moment.
Samsung is good for films and media but most of them have oos TV tuners. dependent on the panel you buy, but that's a lottery on getting a good one.

Anyone else manage to purchase from other Sainsburys stores? I might go for a look tomorrow morning.

Too many reviews pal..try owning all of these then talk

I have mate. And plus I calibrate displays professionally, so I know what I'm talking about mate!
PC monitors are the best for games ie 2ms response time so no blur then Tvs come second but only very few can perform as well as a monitor.
I have calibrated all brands and Panasonic's flagship Oled is currently the most accurate professional display you can buy at this moment even though it isn't the best for games.
Panasonic had Hollywood colorist dial in the color to faithfully represent film content.
Research a little more next time Mate!

Got a Samsung and a Sony in my two downstairs rooms. Sony is top notch and only a budget version. Actually the Ops version. Definitely looking for another Sony to upgrade. Samsung gone of the boil in many products for me.

How did you register it? Phone or e-mail?Because when I ask Sony support about it, they tell me that Currys do not participate in that 5 years warranty program.

If anyone lives in south Birmingham, the big sainsburys store in longbridge had 3 of these left on shelf as of 2 hours ago

These have been cut to £300. Just bought one in Brookwood store.
