Good price, voted hot. I bought the 40ex703 a few weeks back for £700, a cracking tv, very impressed !:)

I'm not a fan of large LCD TVs especially with SD Freeview - I think this looks a better deal:

A friend of mine just got this TV, and it's a great set but be warned about the reflective screen, it's practically a mirror unless the room is dark.

Sony EX703 have freeview HD. LG cheaper cos it's LG!

Review at avforums, Summary: blacks ok, colours accurate, gamma good, greyscale ok.

Standard problems with edgelit-led though, personally I'd always go backlit for better evenness.

this is an excellent TV. However I would rather pay the extra £150/£180 and get the 5 year guarantee from John Lewis. Also I have this thing about having fragile items delivered from a nationwide or offshore location by post or courier. atleast with a deptartment store it will be delivered from a depot local to me and by their own delivery drivers/van.

Don't sony do a 3 year warranty on all their televisions anyway, plus I am pretty sure it is your right as a customer to inspect goods before chosing to accept them when they are delivered to your door. Even if the packaging looks undamaged but the tv turns out to be DOA surely it would be play.com's responsibility to deal with the problem under distance selling regulations.

The LG 50PK590 has Freeview HD as well which is why I listed the link - what's your point?

Is this the one you mean for £100 more with a five year warranty?

johnlewis.com/230…spx

The question is ------------ is it worth paying another £100 for a 5 year warranty ?
Probably if you`re forking out £900, you don`t want expensive hassle after twelve months.

Yes this exactly the one i mean. And at only £100 more it's even more of a better deal. Think about it. £100 more for an extra 4 years of peace of mind. Or risk something going wrong without having the cover and pay about £60 just for the call out charge. No brainer!

Thanks for your input which is what I more or less thought.

The problem now is with Christmas just around the corner and ALL the retailers pushing TV`s like crazy, will JLP cut the price of this model even further.

I can see all the adverts now ------------------------- buy now before the big VAT increase in Jan.
I know it`s only £25 on a thousand but the way they`ll advertise will make it seem massive.

point taken, but in my opinion those kind of marketing strategy will probably start from the 3rd week of Nov. You could be enjoying this baby from this week!

If you buy at £899 can you still get the VAT back from SONY?

Where is it at 899.
