There's no local dimming on the XE80/XE83 so the peak brightness is irrelevant as it can't use it. In terms of bit depth, rtings found it had very little banding so whatever it's got is sufficient.

Basically, it's a good mid-range (probably) IPS TV. It's not something I'd recommend if you're buying specifically for HDR as it's hardware there is limited - you need to go up to the XE90 for that - and home cinema setups would be better off with the XE85 and it's higher contrast VA panel. Everyone else though should find it a good TV.

Last year's model went down to £750-800 by the end of the year, so this isn't a bad price if you're in a hurry but you could probably save another hundred quid if you're not.
I bought this a few days ago, it's a very good TV. I wanted OLED, but this is less than half the price. Looking at the two technologies side by side in the store there is a difference in contrast, but in day-to-day use you won't usually notice it. Not at all bad for the money. It's a Sony, and has a 5 year warranty too, as I recall. You can't go too far wrong. 4K looks terrific displaying photos well shot with a decent camera.
