4K ULTRA HD TV - THE ULTIMATE RESOLUTION

With an astonishing screen resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, the Sony KD49X8505B is at the cutting edge of TV technology. This resolution is exactly four times greater than the more conventional 1920 x 1080 Full HD TVs and it's a difference you can see - big time! The gain in resolution is especially noticeable and, even when close up to the screen, the detail and realism is awesome. As 4K streaming becomes ever more available, including on popular TV series streamed over the Internet, the benefits are now clearer than ever. Yet, even with other resolutions, the KD49X8505B takes advantage of Sony's X-Reality PRO 4K technology to upscale the images to 4K - making the most of every format.

TRILUMINOS DISPLAY

As well as 4K, this Sony TV also boasts a Triluminos display. This has been specially developed to produce truer, deeper and more natural shades of colour. In particular you'll notice that skin shades appear far more natural. This Sony is also fitted with Motionflow XR 200Hz. This high quality Motionflow system works especially well with fast moving action, such as sports events, without the blur you can see with standard TVs. From a Hollywood blockbuster to a Formula One race, XR200 makes a significant difference.

PASSIVE 3DTV

Passive 3D TV is simpler than the active system but, despite this, in many ways it's superior. For a start, passive 3D TV is considered more comfortable to watch with less flicker. Another technical advantage includes brighter images. Then there's the cost and convenience consideration to take into account. The glasses are much cheaper and also considerably lighter to wear. The lack of batteries onboard also means they don't have to be recharged.

IMPROVED SOUND QUALITY

Although no match for a separates home cinema system, the Sony KD49X8505B's built-in audio system is above the class average. This is thanks to using bass reflex speakers that are designed to offer a deeper, fuller sound. With a wider frequency response, this Sony TV avoids the tinny sound that can afflict flat TVs. S-Force Front Surround gives an added dimension to the sound with projection to match the 3D pictures. The S-Master 20 watt amplifier ensures it can fill a large room with sound, too.

YOUR SMARTPHONE DISPLAY ON THE BIG SCREEN IN AN INSTANT WITH SCREEN MIRRORING

Screen Mirroring lets you watch what's on your mobile or tablet, on the big screen - wirelessly. All you need do is swipe your NFC one-touch enabled smartphone against the supplied one-touch remote and the content is instantly transferred to the big screen. Whether its photos, videos or app content, big screen entertainment is just a swipe away.

MASSIVE RANGE OF SMART CONTENT WITH THE SONY ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK

At the heart of the Sony KD49X8505B's networking ability is the Sony Entertainment Network. This gives access to a massive range of apps, including the highly popular YouTube, BBC iPlayer, Lovefilm, Twitter, Facebook and many more. In addition to an application based browser for the most well known sites, the KD49X8505 also comes with Opera web browser for full Internet access (display of embedded video restricted). This Sony TV is also DLNA compliant meaning that you can stream data from your laptop, PC or NAS drive device. Even better, streaming from your home network can be via Ethernet cable or the built-in Wi-Fi connection. On top of all this, this 4K wonder comes with a built-in camera and is ready for Skype calls. Thanks to smartphone apps for iPhone or Android, you can take control of the Sony with your phone's comprehensive touch screen.

Great find op, heat added

That's a very tempting price point!

Sorely tempted-heat

Why oh why has this deal been posted, I am so tempted, heat added in the hope it will go red hot and everyone else will buy one sending it out of stock before my willpower snaps

Seems odd really to have 4k and then passive 3d which isn't even hd! still a cracking deal though

Not great reviews Im eyeing for Samsung UE55H80000. Compared currys instore found Samsung image quality much better

Yeah i'll be honest home 3D is pretty poor. But then 4k is hard to resist. Prices have really fallen fast!

Tip: not many chances to get any payback on spending at JL, but Virgin Atlantic's Flying Club offer 4 miles per £1 spent at JL to 15/12 then 2 per £1...
You probably wont be able to follow this link until you've signed into your VA Flying Club a/c...

I've just had a delivery of the LG equivalent of this (850v)from JL and now wondering if this is better? I didn't even look at Sony's because I thought they wear all active 3d.. This is £100 more but comes with a soundbar

Can anyone confirm if this is HDMI 2.0 compatible? Currys site states it is but no mention of it on JL site.
Looks a good price! Heat added...

thinking of buying this..John lewis are refunding me today for my Samsung 51" its broken twice within 2 yrs and now can't get replacement part so giving me a refund...happy days!

Guys two questions:
1. 200hz motionflow? My £400 tv is 400hz motionflow - guessing there will be lots of ghosting?
2. It's 8 bit not 10 bit so out of date tomorrow? Best to wait for 10 bit sets?

Just read this out and got a big NO, Npthing wrong with latest Sony we have lol

Note - Refresh Rate Information- Motionflow XR 200Hz isn't this a bit low for fast action, mine is 800Hz

That is one cracking deal, already got one of these tellys from Costco about 3 months ago, sky hd, blu-rays and the PS4 are stunning on it.

Tempted but I'm not sure it can match the PQ of my HX853 and the input lag seems high.

Just my opinion, but active 3d is far better than passive. Granted, the glasses are more expensive, but it's worth it for the extra quality

My 37" telly is still going strong dam it :-( I wish it would break so I can justify buying a new one

passive 3d is HD on a 4k TV! you only loose half the lines to each eye which is still better than HD

Yes, it has 2 support, infact 2.2 so will allow *proper* 4k res, when the uk actually gets it!

Great price and freebie, however, if you can stretch, would pop the screen size up to 55 if you can, especially if want all the 4k coming from Amazon very shortly in the uk

only 200ghz referesh rate for 4k display??

It is a shame its an IPS panel though
Edited by: "mreriksen" 12th Dec 2014

I would bet money people here complaing about 200hz wouldn't be able to notice the difference between 100 and 200, let alone anything higher..

Study

soundbar is only for today so act quick

What type of IPS? (there were 11 different ones last time I checked)

55" version with free sound bar £1299 too HERE

Bought the 55" version a week ago, very good TV and i'm very happy with it. The colour on the TV knocks spots of the others in this price range. I was concerned about the 200hz as i thought that was low but when i saw the TV the 200hz at the store and played some stuff it was fine. I'd reccomend this TV

Weirdly ive NEVER seen home passive 3D - mine is a samsung (active 3d) and it's pretty good but nothing compared to cinema 3D, thats what I meant by not very good.

Forget the 200mhz 400mhz garbage its all marketing hype the screen refresh is still 50/60hz its pre-processing de-interlacing they state in the marketing blurb which in my experience looks better with it all switched off....

we bought this tv a month ago for £1399 damn you JL!

Can't say I know a huge amount about these types of Televisions so any help would be greatly appreciated. Have other LG HD televisions which I have been impressed by so with that in mind, is the LG 49UB850V Smart 3D 4k Ultra HD 49" LED TV any good in comparison to this?. You can get it from Currys for £899 or £1049 including a LG NB3530A Wireless sound bar. Does that compare to this deal or is this deal better.

Am I going to be upset that I just ordered a Sony KDL50W829B 50-inch TV instead of this?

I've also had an HX853 for a couple of years. I'm gonna wait for prices to fall or even better a 4k OLED at £1000 - maybe next xmas.
There's no hurry to get a 4k tv as it's gotta upscale everything anyway. Keep the HX853 until it's really worth it I say!
It's s similar situation like it was before blu-ray came out when people got hd ready or full hd sets to play their DVDs upscaled

Wow! Dammit I'm too late with my Xmas list... This looks pretty special! Noted for next year.

From my experience home 35 in amazing, I cant stand seeing a 3d film at the cinema. It just just so good and clear on a 3d tv

Depends on the price!

£729 with the same soundbar. So £270 less.

Spoken to Amazon, they'll collect it, although unsure what that will cost yet.

Guess I have 35 minutes to decide!
