Too small!49" is so yesteryear!

Not for everyone. My father in law still has a 21"crt. Has his chair pulled right up to the tv to see it. He won't replace it till it blows up lol. Have to admire him though in this throwaway society

That's next best price, rrp was £849, this is the cheapest it's been, everywhere else is £549.

What's the difference between this and the KD49XG8096 at currys £499. I can seem to see any additional spec.

They're identical in specs, I think the feet may be plastic rather than metal and maybe the cabinet colour effect design is slightly different on the XG8196.

Currys and Sony Centre shops get the XG8096 and everyone else gets the 8196 - this gives them a unique model that they don't have to price match as it's a different model.

I've spent ages going through the feature sets of both models and cannot see any difference hence I got the XG8096 (from Sony Outlet as it happens)

Good question

Every single spec identical

apart from the 81 having 'dual database processor'

Which according to Sony makes it better picture quality upscaling 1080 to 4k

No idea what that means for your viewing experience tho

My Toshiba Microwave is 40+ years old and still going strong!

You need to play Star Wars Battlefront II or Forza 4 or World Of Tanks or watch the footie on a 75 inch or 103 inch dude!
I guarantee you will be knocking down walls to accomodate it - I did!
lol

It's known as KD49XG8196 - there are a few versions:

XG8096 - sold by Currys and Sony Centres 50Hz / 400Hz fake Hz
XG8196 - sold by any retailer 50Hz / 400Hz fake Hz

The XG8396 and XG8596 has an 'X1 processor' 100Hz / 1000 fake Hz which supposedly is far better at image processing but adds more money

You can compare models at Sony website and the 80 / 81 seems near identical with only the 83 series and above being better specs.

Note that to use USB recording and Satellite you have to disable YouView which loses a couple of catch up apps.

Also confusingly Sony site shows XE and XF models which are 2017 and 2018 respectively... XG are 2019 models.

What about viewing angle and curved tv's or ips lol or the fact you need 55"+ for true 4k¬
Nah i just fix tellies and watch em i dont get involved in long arguments about hdr 4k 1080p
Most folks on here just want a cheap reliable telly!
My 103 inch plasma is 1080p 12 years old and good enough for me even though it did cost £65,000 whenit first came out!

I have a 2016 8305 Sony and although it does have a good picture and 120hz refresh, the screen is dark. Game mode on Sony seems to be terrible?

Do you think the 83 is worth the extra money? They don’t seem to sell them on Amazon, so not sure what the chances are for a price reduction on those this week...

If you can push it go for the xg83 the x1 procceessor will give better picture more detail especially in 4k, I brought the xg80 earlier, I. Already own a Sony with x1 HDR pictures procceessor.

I can't say from personal experience.... I'm expecting the XG8096 to arrive today so look forward to how well or bad it performs! - I chose the XG8096 as it was mid range and had 4 HDMI sockets whereas the lower model has just 2. I also considered that the law of diminishing returns might apply here....

Thanks guys, I’ll keep an eye on prices this week and see how it goes
Well I received my 43XG8096 from Sony Outlet (£349) and it's arrived in as new condition and works pretty well once I'd turned OFF all the picture enhancements like motion flow, colour reality and other nonsense. Now the images look pretty decent even on standard definition programming.

Youview is a bit clunky and I'll probably deactivate it (which then enables satellite input and USB recording).

Android is pretty fast and decent, a bit 'all over the place' as in many variations on logging into apps and setup but overal not bad.

I've come frome a £900 KDLW4000 32" from 2008 which gave some of the best LCD images I've seen, I'd say the IPS panel in the XG8096 has a bit less clouding of backlight but more noticeable edge light but nothing bad or annoying. Once you turn off these picture enhancers (haha) and turn colour down, this XG can give pretty natural images... out the box gives overly bright and vivid images which all have a 'video' look about them.
