Recently updated as I've been keeping an eye on this at £899. Probably one of the best LED TVs at this size.

Always helpful from John Lewis with 5 year warranty.

Product details:

Sony’s XG90 4K Ultra HD TV combines class-leading picture quality and Android smart technology. With a Full-Array LED Backlight, cinematic contrast means bright sections are brighter, darkness is darker, and the contrast between the two is sharper than ever. Its TRILUMINOS display is beautifully colour-rich, driven by the brand’s X1 Extreme processor and X-Motion Clarity tech for exceptional and fluid detail. The Android platform opens up a wealth of online content, you can control it by voice with the Google Assistant, and its minimalist design is supremely elegant.

HDR with Dolby Vision
HDR deepens your view and shows shades previously unseen in home entertainment. Expanding light, dark and every colour in between to extraordinary new levels, this model's picture gets closer to real life. This set supports multiple HDR formats including Dolby Vision.

4K Ultra High Definition
This 49” screen has four times the number of pixels than 1080p Full HD TVs, delivering stunning realism, natural motion and incredible detail.

Features:

X1 Extreme 4K HDR processor: Powering the display is Sony's X1 Extreme processor with powerful real-time image processing for ultra detail.

X-Tended Dynamic Range PRO: This TV has six times the brightness range of a standard LED TV (based on comparison with Sony conventional LED TVs without local dimming), for brilliant whites and deep, rich blacks.

4K X-Reality Pro: Upscales non-4K content to reveal extra detail. It analyses every pixel and improves contrast, colour and sharpness for increased clarity.

TRILUMINOS Display: Expands the colour range beyond conventional LED displays for a richer, more lustrous image.

Clear Audio + : Fine tunes the audio for a more immersive experience of rich sound and clear dialogue, no matter what you're watching.

Super-Smart Android Platform
Developed by Google, you'll be able to enjoy seamless entertainment, intelligent search and the latest apps from the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Youtube and Google Play.* This TV features a special Netflix Calibrated Mode for studio quality content, and it’s also compatible with Alexa devices, Apple Airplay, and Apple HomeKit.

Android TV with Google Assistant
With the Google Assistant built-in, you can use your voice to find your favourite programmes, apps, videos or music, as well as search for information and more. You can also control connected smart devices in your home (smart device control depends on compatibility). Chromecast built-in casts your videos, photos and apps to the TV straight from your smartphone or tablet (Android or iOS) via Wi-Fi. There are also hundreds of apps and games available for you to explore in the Google Play store.

Youview Catch-Up
In addition to a wealth of online entertainment, this set comes with built-in YouView. The seven day scroll back TV guide brings together catch up TV from across BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and My5**. You can also enjoy over 70 live TV channels and radio stations for free, such as BBC 1 & 2, ITV, Channel 4, E4, Channel 5, 5 USA, ITV 2 and Dave.

Minimalist Design
The design of the XG90 keeps you focused on the picture. Cable management features keep connecting wires hidden from view in the Dark Silver stand, and a narrow aluminium black bezel maximises the viewing area.

Nice tv, but then it was next to a panasonic oled in the shop, then it looked washed out and miles off. Oled is more cibrant, blacker blacks and sharper images. A good comparison is to definitely put it up against an oled, made my mind up in 10 seconds, oled everytime !

A 49" OLED? Doesn't sound as though it's a like for like comparison.
This set is my alternative to getting an oled..... So tempting to save the odd 200 compared too
Good find, been looking at this for a while hoping it would come down, on its way:)

Oh totally but the nearest OLED with the same processing abilities is likely to be the LG or the older Sony AG8 for about £1299 currently in sale johnlewis.com/son…133 those would be the 2 consensus sets with the kind of processing power you'd want from an OLED. Personally I'm not sold just yet, still fairly in their infancy and am waiting for them to drop in price before a bigger investment, this will certainly do for the time being. Still dreaming of the Sony A1 tho
Price now £899
If anyone's still following this thread Fenwicks (Newcastle) had these at £699. John Lewis price matching in store, obviously.
