Picture brilliance comes as standard with OLED
Backlighting technology is a thing of the past with OLED. Instead of using various arrays of LEDs to light an LCD display, OLED uses over eight million self-illuminating pixels for sensational image quality. With self-illuminating pixels, you get outstanding contrast. Blacks are far deeper than LED displays and corresponding whites much brighter. For the ultimate in realism, OLED is where it’s at.

X1 Extreme for powerful picture processing
Packing 40% more real-time image processing than the standard X1 processor, X1 Extreme takes processing power to the next level. Sony's X1 Extreme processor analyses every signal and optimises it for the best performance possible. X1 Extreme is also the power behind upscaling FHD images to UHD 4K – bringing new life to your Blu-ray collection and non-4K TV shows.

HDR support, including Dolby Vision
HDR maximises picture quality, bringing detail to the darkest areas of the picture as well as making the overall image look more life-like than ever. As well as HDR10 and HLG formats, this Sony is also compatible with Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision optimises the HDR format to give quite simply the sharpest, most accurate images possible. Very much an industry standard, Dolby Vision continually adjusts the picture for the most remarkable realism.

Sound from the screen
When you’re at the cinema, most of the sound comes from behind the screen – giving the perfect sync between sound and vision. Featuring Acoustic Surface Audio technology, this Sony 55 inch TV replicates the cinema. By using twin actuators at the rear of the screen, the whole surface acts as one, cohesive speaker. Backed up by downward-firing speakers, the KD-55AG8 delivers a focused, seamless sound.

Beautiful Screen, amazing on-screen sound.. BUT no more Android OS updates. Only the AG9 and later are getting the update to OS 8.0

You can upgrade the firmware to version 8.0 if it happens to ship with version 7.0.

It's version 9.0 this model won't be getting.
Holding out for sub 1k
I'd go for a standalone android tv device if you want android tv. Something like a new shield.

The Nvidia shield is pretty much the only decent standalone device. Lot of the others run terribly and don't get updated frequently.

Completely agree.

Or a HTPC

A computer basically, and put Kodi on it. Tbh an Nvidia Shield is more practical.

Never heard of that company
I have previously seen postings in a couple of forums, nothing bad said about them that i've read. Trustpilot backs this up also. See for yourself here.
This is an amazing TV. Just got one from Curry’s. Fantastic PQ in SD HD and UHD. Sound can be customised to eliminate the need for a sound bar. Easily the best TV I’ve ever owned.
cheaper on black friday.

It wasn’t. It didn’t drop below £1200 until the other day. I’m pretty sure it was £1299 on Black Friday.

Costco had it on a warehouse offer for £1079 at one point. Someone was lucky enough to get RS to beat the price for £1039. hotukdeals.com/dea…006

I bought the TV from Curry's for £1299 about two weeks before the costco deal so was unable to get the difference back as it wasn't within 7 days :0(
More than happy with the TV anyway.
Purchased this on Boxing day from Currys for £1249 - amazing TV. Pic quality on UHD Netflix with Dolby Vision is excellent along with 4k rips via Plex on Apple TV. Android OS is a bit sluggish - I have upgraded to android 8.0 but is slow compared to my LG set using WebOS. For me the apps are irrelevant as all stuff is sent via Apple TV so the Android OS is redundant for me
Stonking deal. Got this for £1300 from John Lewis just before BF which at the time was a £300 saving. Still very happy with it. This was one of many reviews that helped seal the deal
