Is this a 10bit panel?

Is this a 10bit panel?

Yes, I believe it is, the major difference between this and the more expensive KD55XE9005 is the lighting and brightness. This only has edge lighting whereas the 9005 has local dimming, and this can only get up to 400 cd/m2 compared to 900 cd/m2.

I purchased the 8005c 2015 model. The picture quality is really good, but the Android system is buggy. It reboots randomly, messages comes up saying this has stopped etc. So basically I have to have the TV remote to hand to remove the messages, which is annoying.
Put me off Sony TV’s massively.

Same price with John Lewis and 5yr warrant.

I have a 2015 sony tv and mines absolutely fine. Might be worth checking for updates / resetting your tv

does anyone know if this works with the HDR standard of the Xbox One X ? I have that and a PS4 Pro (which I'm guessing is supported by this Sony TV)

One is black, one is silver.

very tempted as i could sell the blueray player on fleabay for £200+ bringing the tv down to around £630 which is a snap! i think the main difference between this and the XE9000 model is the back lighting and 1000mhz refresh rate rather than the 400mhz.

This also comes with a 5 year warranty so I took the plunge

Returning my Samsung MU6400 and ordered this. I wanted Sony before I ordered the Samsung but the extra cost put me off. Having received the Samsung and have issues with my PS4 Pro and black screens I can't wait for delivery of the Sony, it's caused me so many headaches over the weekend. Due for delivery Thursday. Not sure if I'll keep or sell the blu-ray player yet though.

So the Samsung wasn't that good? I have bitten the bullet on this but I've come across a couple of reviews which suggest it's not that bright for HDR. The other concern for me is that maybe I should get a Dolby Vision Enabled TV (for future proofing)

It was and it wasn't. The screen was lovely and I watched the Grand Tour in 4k HDR and it did look great. However it didn't work well with my PS4 and a search online reveals lots of issues with Samsung's connected to PS4 Pros running 4k, mostly due to HDMI handshaking issues. Spent several hours troubleshooting it and I wasn't prepared to be stuck with a brand new TV that didn't function as it should so it's being returned. So if you aren't using a PS4 Pro it should be good for most.

The other downside of the Samsung's is the horrible adverts! I turned off the PS4 and normally you'd just get a blank screen, however the Samsung detects it's off then starts playing what are essentially adverts made to look like it's an insight to a film, but in reality you can click buy on that and it'll allow you to buy the movie online. I couldn't find a way to disable this unfortunately.

Ah Ok! I think I've seen someone else go on about advertising!

I think the Sony looks a good tv and hopefully it will scratch my HDR itch :-) the bluray is a bonus as I already have an Xbox One X although I've had some teething problems with UHD playback.

Yes, I had heard of the advertising and know it'd be on the home screen, but based on my usage of my previous Sony, I rarely touched the home screen except for the occasional USB stick access. So I was prepared to overlook it. What I didn't expect was for the TV to automatically move to the home screen when disconnecting another source as never seen that previously. Meaning that your gonna see that home screen at least daily when you turn off Sky/Virgin/games consoles.

It wasnt blatent "here's a TV ad for some deoderant", it was more check out the latest Guardian of the Galaxy film, here's a sneak preview, checked out how the special effects were, and look it has a baby Groot! And then you can press a button to take you to an online store to buy it. As adults it is perhaps an irritation, if you were a family I can see how this would really be a pain with kids. Thankfully the Sony has zero ads, only suggested content that can be removed apparently.

So anyway.... The Samsung gets picked up on Thursday, and the Sony is being delivered the same day.

From what I've read the 4K blu-ray player is decent. I just don't know if I'm ready to buy 4K Blu-Rays again after getting rid of all my Blu-Ray films previously

I'm loving 4K Blurays I ran them previously on the One S but I think a dedicated player will play them even better. Plus the added bonus of HDR

Has anyone received one of these yet? If so what does the HDR look like on it? I don't get mine until Thursday

It has up to date firmware. It’s even connected via Ethernet. No use, and stupid messages are annoying.

Mine arrives tomorrow (Thursday) also. Can't wait to test it out.

Mine just arrived :-)

Mine came at 7:45am! Not bad for service. So I've had a good play with it already. Loving it. I love android TV. I love the lack of ads unlike my Sony. The only time I've seen a black screen flicker is when my console changes modes. Fingers crossed this one's a keeper!

Which console do you Have? I have an Xbox One X and it's reporting it doesn't do HDR the PS4 seems to detect it though

Found the setting!

PS4 Pro. Yeah I had a similar issue where 4k RGB wouldn't work.

HDMI 2, and HDMI Enhanced turned on fixed it.

Contacted Sony today and got my 5 year warranty certificate :-)
