2018 top end of mid range none OLED TV from Sony. Very good reviews on Internet. Not sure if the price will be able to go down any further.

I bought mine from Currys with student discount and I'm very happy with it.

In store only.

Rtings review here if anyone is interested.

If you are after this TV, you probably have done enough research to convince you

The slight down side is Sony TVs don't have Freesat. If you are in the area that Freeview signal is weak, think twice before go for Sony.

In addition, not sure if you can get Currys to price match this and get further 10% off with Student beans discount Someone can give it a go.

I bought this earlier this year and it's great! Android OS is pretty slow but the picture is amazing.

You can claim 2 free 4k films too. Only from a certain selection.

I would have had this but that "stand" is horrific.

Have you upgraded to Android 8? It potentially performs better.

What is 'horrific' about it?

It really limits those with smaller lounges.

The common sense stand would be weight bearing in the middle, like they have done in the past.

The designers must have had a hangover the day this one got signed off.

The design appears to be for the soundbar.

I find soundbars a bit naff in the main. A shame they compromised the design for them if that's the case.
So do I buy this or spend double on the Sony Oled AG8?
Bought this from co op deal. Great TV would recommend.
Must 'admit' that "stand" is 'a' little "horrific"

Thanks for the info on this. Try to update my TV and sound bar every so often and have completly missed this update. Thanks.

I did mine via USB stick as it isn't available via automatic updates.

I'm sure Sony wouldn't recommend it but it is technically possible to fit the feet the opposite way around so they face inward. You would loose a bit of stability though.

I also have seen this in one of the reviews.
Or you can buy a universal centre pedestal stand from amazon or ebay

I got this set last December and performs well and plays with Google chat ok you can command smart items via the remote but if you say hey google to the Google mini it pauses the souse at the same time.
The stand can go both ways and still seemed stable as we tryied it that way as the base is to the edge of our tv stand.
The center speaker from the sound system has to stand off the tv by a a few inches as the rf receiver is under the led in the middle.
I upgraded by the usb stick but perfer the old menu system it was faster to scroll round it.
And as we go to bed it's 'Hey Google turn the room off' and it turns 2 lights and the tv off,
I'm on youtube all the time and no lag in searching or playing which is good on a tv.
This would be sitting in my living room right now if it wasnt for those legs!

Thinking the same myself. This or OLED AG8? Happy to hear people’s thoughts.

AG8 is better, but not when you consider cost difference. I had this in 75 inch, absolutely recomend

I have a different screen size model of this and android performs very well. There's an HDTV review that suggests some ways to improve performance if you think it is slow, though I don't notice any difference between it and a samsung smart TV. Guide is very fast. Android 8 is better laid out and more intuitive to use - not sure I noticed an improvement in performance, but I thought it was fine to start with.

Only app missing is Now TV which is annoying as it's on the mobile play store - all others are catered for, but there is an issue that to use itv and ch4 catch up apps you need to turn on Youview or use built in cast from a phone

We have reversed the feet so it fits better on our unit and it's very stable

Also if it matters whilst all 4 hdmi support 4k, only 2 support 18gbps / HDR. For most it won't matter as you don't need a 4k chromecast or 4k amazon fire TV etc as google play, netflix, YouTube, prime video apps are all 4K Hdr.
Way too near OLED £ for just an LCD.
This is the set in debating instead of an LG oled. Android os in the end should offer way more like stadia and it has chrome cast ultra built in too.

Not sure if it's just a tad to close to black Friday to take a punt though

I have been following the price for those Sony TVs. It looks like Richersounds is discontinuing 55XF9005, they are no longer available online. They did similar thing for 55XF8505. XF8505 has been £699 in store only for a while. XF9005 is £200 more. Not sure RS will be dropping their prices any further. However, other retailers may during BF.

I've seen the 49 inch for as low as 600 refurb but I didn't bite. 55 is 800 refurb and I doubt we will get a good discount on the xg.

So tough to choose between this and say a b8.

I agree the splayed feet look quite comical. Perhaps it's better in the flesh. The stand on the previous year's xe90 was much more elegant. #cantstandmenow

I bought mine 55xf from Currys for 850 a couple of weeks ago, when it was down for 949 and I used 10% off student discount
The main negative for these sets seems to stem from the poor viewing angles. Can owners of this tv enlighten me on this? Thanks

Samsung Smart TV is MUCH better in every way conceivable, I have both an xf9005 and Qled....it's massively faster and better designed....no competition....
Got the 49 of this. Great picture. Had a few bugs with the android Os since the upgrade, specifically with connecting to my sound base. Excellent picture. I like others use a swivel pedestal stand, which is miles better than the standard feet type stand.

No, when I search for an OTA update it says I've got the latest software version. So I'm still on Android 7

Definitely a steal if you can find one in your local store. Not sure how is their stock level for this TV, will it be available in all stores?
