See how real 4K entertainment can be on Sony’s AG8 TV. It combines the deep blacks of Sony’s OLED screen, the powerful X1 Extreme processor, and Acoustic Surface Audio which uses the screen itself as the speaker for exceptionally accurate sound. A super sleek OLED panel, pin-sharp 4K UHD resolution, and a glorious HDR colour-scape are boosted by Sony's TRILUMINOS display and MotionFlow XR processing. The Android platform opens up a wealth of online content, you can control it by voice with the Google Assistant, and its minimalist design is supremely elegant.

4K OLED Screen
The Organic LED display doesn't have a backlight, meaning that each pixel is self-illuminating. Every speck of light controls its own luminescence for true depth and colour gradation. With 8 million of these pixels, this 4K OLED set produces impeccably deep blacks, whiter whites, and scintillating colours. And all within a blur-free image that looks just as stunning from any angle.

HDR with Dolby Vision
HDR deepens your view and shows shades previously unseen in home entertainment. Expanding light, dark and every colour in between to extraordinary new levels, this model's picture gets closer to real life. This set supports multiple HDR formats including Dolby Vision.

4K Ultra High Definition
This 65” screen has four times the number of pixels than 1080p HD TVs, delivering stunning realism, natural motion and incredible detail.

Features:
Acoustic Surface Audio: A genuine innovation, two specially-designed actuators in the back panel utilise the entire screen as an acoustic surface. The screen is the speaker. Sounds emanate accurately from their point of origin within the image and an integrated subwoofer delivers powerful bass, enabling the sleekest design and harmonising sound and visuals.

X1 Extreme 4K HDR processor: Powering the display is Sony's X1 Extreme processor with powerful real-time image processing for ultra detail.

Motionflow XR: By analysing and inserting extra frames, even the fastest sequences are beautifully smooth and sharp. Revel in every detail of fast action movies or the thrilling spectacle of live sport.

TRILUMINOS Display: Expands the colour range beyond conventional LED displays for a richer, more lustrous image.

4K X-Reality Pro: Upscales non-4K content to reveal extra detail. It analyses every pixel and improves contrast, colour and sharpness for increased clarity.

Super-Smart Android Platform
Developed by Google, you'll be able to enjoy seamless entertainment, intelligent search and the latest apps from the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Youtube and Google Play.* This TV features a special Netflix Calibrated Mode for studio quality content, and it’s also compatible with Alexa devices.

Android TV with Google Assistant
With the Google Assistant built-in, you can use your voice to find your favourite programmes, apps, videos or music, as well as search for information and more. You can also control connected smart devices in your home (smart device control depends on compatibility). Chromecast built-in casts your videos, photos and apps to the TV straight from your smartphone or tablet (Android or iOS) via Wi-Fi. There are also hundreds of apps and games available for you to explore in the Google Play store.

Youview Catch-Up
In addition to a wealth of online entertainment, this set comes with built-in YouView. The seven day scroll back TV guide brings together catch up TV from across BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and My5**. You can also enjoy over 70 live TV channels and radio stations for free, such as BBC 1 & 2, ITV, Channel 4, E4, Channel 5, 5 USA, ITV 2 and Dave.

Sleek, Elegant Design
Minimalist design keeps you focused on the picture. The stand can be rotated 180° to raise the screen, leaving ideal space for your sound bar beneath. A super-slim bezel maximises the viewing area, and cables are neatly hidden from view.

Does anybody know how this compares with the LG C9 ?

Both LG and Sony are leaders in screen technology. You wont go wrong with either.
The E9 has been popping up for the same price recently (65”) which also has a couple of little extra upgrades over the C9. I spent months researching a TV before I bought one, hundreds of reviews. C9 pretty much cleaned up, only thing that came close was the Panasonic GZ2000 which was about £1000 more. The LG was superior. Ps, Im not biased, I actually prefer a Samsung but they were 3/4 on the list.

Thanks. I’m the same, love Samsung but ended up sending my Q90 back. Blacks weren’t up to much. Will look out for a deal on the C9
From what I’ve seen looking at the 55 A8G/AG8 they use the same panel for the screen...confirmed in a RTINGS YouTube video

I’ve also been thinking of the C9 for the Xbox series X but they’re only getting Gears 5 to run at 4K60...so I can imagine a lot of triple A games never reaching 4K120 but you never know...
Great TV. Amazing sound. Not sure its much of a deal at this price though :/

I have had the 65ag8 for the last 4 months. Appreciate everything said with marketing etc. But for all round viewing and just general quality you cant beat the Sony. The last TV I had was the top end Sony LED after 5 years, next purchase had to be a Sony just for the viewing experience and especially the sound quality, outstanding

Great insight, thank you.

Fantastic tv got mine from Costco on BF 65" £1680 plus 2% cashback, superb picture quality and excellent sound which saved me getting a sound bar.
Aso have a sound bar for the extra bass but 95% of the time dont use it

I got a 55 inch ag9, breathtaking picture and sound. We did away with our bose soundbar that's how good the sound is.
Check the android mediatek chipset on this prior to purchasing. I'm sure I read somewhere that this has the old 2016 processor therefore android TV version could not be updated to the latest version. So android experience may not be smooth and feel sluggish. Correct me if I'm wrong

The previous sony I had the smart aspect was rubbish. LG and samsung much better. Even then the picture quality was worth it. I would have kept the old Sony but managed to get this one for 1800 when priced at 2200 in JLP. (Dont ask how) and wanted a 65" for a while. The Ag9 chip much better for android but so far touch wood have been happy with the screen transition

My Sony A1 panel had some issues after 2.5 years, called up Sony and they sent someone round with a brand new 65 AG9 to replace the A1, top warranty service by Sony. During to swap I ask the engineer what are the common faults with OLEDS and he said they dont generally have too many issues with the Sony OLEDS, but they are always repairing LG OLEDs from burning, and most of the burning that happens on the LG OLEDS are a large rectangle in the middle of the screen.

Paying the extra for a Sony has 100% paid off for me.

Interested in this but also the AG9. Appreciate the potential price difference.
Can both of them be wall hung without looking stupid? I only ask due to the built in sound setup, as I’m not sure if this makes it thicker at the base(?) so would push this away from the wall, or make it non-mountable / ruin the sound dynamics?

I had a 46 " mounted with a 6 inch gap. was worried I would have to move the mount. But was perfectly fine. Fittings easy as tv is ultra light. See image same mount at the back as the 46" did not need to lift and sound bar fits perfectly
55 inch AG8 from Costco at £1200 (inc) at the moment.
Sony has priced itself out for majority of shoppers unfortunately.
I recognise we're all on different wages etc.. But who honestly spends £2k on a TV and comes out thinking "I got a good deal there" lol

I think it depends on how much the tv costs normally / at most other places. If I managed to get a £4k tv for £2k I’d be thinking ‘I got a good deal there

I guess. But it's alot of money.. I got an LG 4k smart TV for £300 and although not the best, I certainly don't think I could get much more TV for £2000 lol

Every single brand is using LG OLED panels. The difference is software (image processing) . Sony tend to have better software than LG but still this is the same panel.

I've just measured my AG8, it's wall mounted and the distance from the wall to the edge of the screen is about 93mm

Could not agree more. Sony smart is actually pretty dumb, however any Roku or Firestick solving this problem.

Thank you that’s great ! I wonder if the AG9 is similar or if the speaker set up is any different?
I currently have a Philips ambilight and have just measured from the wall to the edge of the screen and its 104mm, so this one would actually be a little flusher
I'd recommend holding out for Sony centres direct refurb deals to come back in stock.

Probably the old Sony's when they didn't have Android built-in. My 50inch that I have in my bedroom is brilliant!

So far so good. Wait until it won't be further supported. Plus most of the manufactures saving on CPU. The same as in case of mobile phones. Thankfully Roku or the others are future proof solution.

Ended up using a Shield on the last one. Yes 2k is alot and had the option of buying a refurb but couldn't get accidental damage cover with refurb. Hence new. As far I'm concerned there were cheaper options I could have bought one of those, but now I can enjoy an oled and happy with it. Like many other deals on here not suitable for all including me and I got 20% off lol
