Really worth researching or scrapping the idea of using Sony’s OS all together

Point taken but that is your experience with your television. To ask "what planet people are living on" doesn't take into account their experiences and just sounds a bit unhelpful and rude.
Built in smart stuff is pants. More about the screen.
Stick a firesrick or nvidea sheild in and in and don’t worry about the performance.

Great deal
Looks amazing

Pity my budget is max £700
Tempting.
I really fancy it for myself as well, I’ve got a similar budget.
I was unsure/worried about the motionflow of 400 HZ is this to low?
Can anyone comment on the OS, is it laggy? & how are the boot times?

My XD8005 and xe 8004 are constantly used all day by my kids, they constantly switching between YouTube for kids and regular YouTube, in between that the misses watches Netflix, when I get back from work a I also watch iptv which is installed via the play store. I rarely get a problem, and maybe just clean the memory cache once month by holding power button, I don't have any issues, and nor do any other family members who also own Sony android tvs. I done my research and android with Google assistant is more advanced smart system for me. I've been buying tvs since the 90s and change my tvs every 3 /4years and picture quality is most important when buying TV and Sony one the best. You need to do your research mate

This Guy's right, I've had 2 X XF9005, 65" and 55" and other recent android Sony Tv's, picture quality and motion, image processing etc they are great TV's, the OS is awful....if you turn your TV on and just use Sky or Virgin they are fine, if your switching between apps like YouTube and Netflix etc they are so frustrating, even changing volume is slow.....I now have 2 X Samsung qled q70 and would never go back to Sony....it's a different world....OS is super fast....like comparing the performance of a £50 smartphone with a flagship smartphone, the Sony you have to point remote right at TV, and wait 5 seconds for it to react...Samsung remote is Bluetooth and much much better.....wouldn't buy Sony TV again, their OS performance and weak CPU/memory etc makes them too annoying, great picture though....anyone who has had both would understand
This or a samsung RU8000?

For me with 2 kids no problem with OS and its on from 7am to 2300 everyday, they switch between apps without problems, yes the remote isn't Bluetooth and you have to point it directly to tv that's a minor thing to me, what do you buy tv for? The picture quality is what matters and Sony are there.

Sony if you want natural, images and no motion issues and goggle assistant

Samsung
I have 43" android and I love it. Slow as you like, but pic is great. Runs stbemu etc so I can get all the kids boxes and ps4s etc into it on the hdmi sockets. I agree with op. Get firestick and be done with it though.....
This, or QE65Q60RATXXU for £125 more?
Built in OS of Sony's is beyond terrible (2018 49" 4K here) it's slow , out of date and takes forever to switch apps especially from live TV to something else.

The TV itself is great however you need a firestick 4K at a minimum or a shield if you want to overpay to enjoy the tv and save your hair from being pulled out.
Nice, but 65" and 4k... I doubt BBC1 will be putting something cool. And even youtube videos are 1080p at small size.. I would have to put up watching new blueray at 4k price again and again lol or watch my friends holiday videos
hotukdealz16/08/2019 16:37

Samsung

Compare the colours on a Sony to a Samsung and the Sony wins hands down
This seems to be a just launched last month, cant find any reviews for it online. I don't think its so much that there is £500 quid off this TV, seems to be more of a launch price! Wouldn't do any harm in holding off.

I have the XE9005 and the Oreo update has been fine. It’s a fantastic TV so you might want to factory reset yours as it might be a dodgey firmware issue. After all, it’s Android.

What version of the Android are you running.
I have 55xe9305(2017) and 49XF9005(2018) and since the Oreo update the menus are faster, but probably still slower than LG and Samsung. Also 1080p upscaling to 4K looks amazing.
I'm popping over to my local store, see how good this is..
kayum9116/08/2019 18:19

Where you getting that from?

Direct from Samsung with their public sector discount scheme (25% off)

My comment was aimed at the time it takes for it to load up so it can switch to another source eg nvidiashield

iPlayer regularly runs 4K HDR programmes, Netflix and Amazon Prime offer 4K HDR, as does Apple TV (with movies at the same price as HD), YouTubeand Google Play. There’s a lot of content that doesn’t require 4K Blu-Rays. That said, the HD upscaling Sony offers also does an incredible job of upscaling HD content to near-4K. Where other brands just match the colour of a pixel, Sony TVs analyse in real time and identify eyes, leaves, cars, etc, so that it can insert pixels that actually add to the detail of whatever you’re watching.

I’ve got a different model Sony and have to agree, it’s buggy as hell. It’s takes a long time to recognise any button presses when first switching on and is prone to crashing for no reason while watching. Picture quality wise it’s excellent, which of course is the main thing when it’s up and running. I’m not sure why, when fire sticks and chromecasts exists, tv manufacturers bother to bloat out their TVs with substandard software. Just create a TV, no smart stuff.

Because such devices are simple and cheap, and might as well be built into TVs at this point. If Sony's or other TV manufacturer's android implementations are bad, that's just their incompetence.
Royo15/08/2019 21:32

Android so probably a minute or so to fire up then selecting a channel adds further time, channel changes also slow compared to other brands.
