***EDIT - Now OOS - Richer Sounds are price matching Here

John Lewis are matching Sony Centre (who are selling this refurbished for this price), and offering a £100 e-card if purchased before 7th June.

This was their top LED model of 2019 (Only models above were the OLED AG8 and AG9). If you dont quite want to spend Sony OLED cash but want a Bravia this is a great option. (Please remember this isnt LG/Samsung/Sony TV wars - This is a decent deal for this TV from one of the few retailers you dont have to ask JL to price match ;-) )

Has the X1 Ultimate SoC too, so will get the latest version of AndroidTV (unlike the AG8!)

Why would you buy this when you could get an OLED for similar money?

Link to 65" oled at this price?

I would agree, if you could actually get a 65” OLED for this price, but you can’t.

OLED isn’t for everyone either. Not ideal for very bright rooms, so HDR will be less impactful. Don’t get me wrong, OLED is the pinnacle in many ways, but they’re not perfect. High quality LCDs still have their place.

Looks like HKUD has cleared them out! They had plenty when I posted! May be worth a store stock check in a few days?

I’m not in the market for one but if I was it’s near the top of the list at this price.

That's true, you'd be looking at dropping down to a 55". But still, given most use cases I just can't see how this would be a better choice than a 55" C9, for example.

Bit like saying it's the better choice if you wanted a Sony.

Oled so yesterday and coming to an end cos of burn in and not bright enough. Micro led and other tech coming soon. Led lcd is older tech but works well with no issues.

Not really, it depends on the buying requirements.

I currently have a 2015 55" Bravia LED. Part of the upgrade is to go to a 65" panel (at the request of the OH)

You normally start with a budget, a desirable tech, and a size. one of those ends up being flexible but it isnt always the same one for everybody.

For the reasons I gave above, plus if you really want a 65” and are on a budget, a 65” OLED might be out of the question. 65” is 40% larger by area, so to some a 55” just ain’t big enough.

Oh that's fair enough, but having seen OLED side by side with even higher end LCD sets I'd take a smaller OLED any day.

Subjective though, and if 65" is the most important factor then this saves you a fair chunk vs an OLED.

If you're looking at a set like this you're not on a budget - you can pick up a 65" TV for half this price...

I'm a OLED owner as I believe it's the better technology but there will be some who want a bigger TV and you cant get a 65" OLED at this price. Even though this is a LED, its is a good TV

Everybody has a budget. A budget doesn’t mean cheap as possible.

tjc200528/05/2020 23:37

Yeah, no.

No, yeah!

It has its faults but better then having burn in and sitting in dark room to watch hdr. Only big plus is amazing black levels and thin screen

Strange, should have been 800nits. My c6 is lower than that and it's perfectly bright enough in a bright room.

I think it's the Philip's or Panasonic (can't remember which) oleds with the best brightness around 1000+ nits. I did look into some qleds but the q90r is just awful in game mode, turning off local dimming to get input lag down, no thanks.

I've never had burn in either, theres a video on youtube with Vincent from hdtv test doing a burn in test for 24hrs and nothing problematic happens, it's still great.

Anyway I can't find anything better than OLED, I ended up ordering the 77 cx for a discount.

I've just gone for a 65 E9, but I also have a QLED that is very good. When I said something to the effect of what you just wrote, the OLED brigade shot me down by saying that QLED aren't in the same league as OLED because they're essentially just fancy LCD panels, and anyone who buys a high end one has been ripped off.

Nearly pulled the trigger on that panel.

Couldnt as I'm an Android TV fan, and the AG8 not having the update (whilst the AG9 and the 9505 LED TV below it *did*) because of the lower spec SoC (X1 Extreme compared to the Ultimate in the other two TVs) just rubbed me up the wrong way.... Smacked of marketing.
