Awesome- been looking for a 3d led smart tv and saw this the other day for £699. Black Friday deal £499. Happy days.

Sweet, ordered!!!!

Does this come with 3d glasses? Im confused as to which tv to buy from jl!

Can't see any mention of the glasses on the John Lewis site but on Amason it says it comes with 4 x PASSIVE 3D glasses. I am assuming the JL one will be the same - hopefully. People's comments on the JL site concur with this.

The Samsung UE40F6500 is also 3D and comes with 2 x ACTIVE 3d glasses.

I am going to buy the Sony as I think passive will be better for my two kids, both around 10yrs old. Not 100% sure which is best though.

I am new to this so someone else will hopefuly comment.

But one other concideration is it seems the Passive glasses can be bought for £10 or less (on Amazon you can buy 5 for £10, not sure if the cheap ones are any good or if they are all the same)

The active ones cost around £20 upwards so if you want to have 5 sets or more, as we do, you will have to purchase another 3+ if you go for the Samsung. So £60+ extra.

Im swaying towards the sony because it has better reviews.

Saj - I too have been debating whether to go for the Panasonic TXL-42E6B or this one. I'm sure you can compare the differences, but I have ended up going for this Sony as it offers Passive 3D, 4 HDMI slots and 400Hz ref. Although £100 more, this offers better value in my opinion. Good luck

My fingering has been hovering over this all morning, can't decide if I want it or not.

I have a choice of this one or the Samsung UE40F6740. That is active 3D and has 600hz. Theres only 2 of us so im not worried about the price of the glasses. Im a sports man and play ps. Gonna have a bit more of a read and decide.

No need to comment. Simply place the order.

NFC in a TV? What's that all about... I can understand in a phone.. but in a TV... lol

does this include the glasses?

Same. For me it would be used as a PC monitor / Playstation gaming TV but can't help but think 42" is too big considering how close I sit. Currently have a 32" and 'should' be happy with that but would love afew extra inches X) and this Sony has superbly low input lag for games.

Decisions!

To transfer media to the TV and also if you see a nice car on the telly you can just touch the phone to the TV and buy it

If you're that close to the TV and using for a monitor, then you'll regret this massively. It will be larger than your field of vision.

Bought, the wife will be happy. Needed 3d to be passive this suits. Heat

Pretty much bang on 2ft away. Obviously can roll back on the chair abit but definitely understand what you're saying.

Stay away from this TV, it is terrible for picture quality.

I have a similar issue having a 32" (Had 37"before and have found out the hard way that a 50and 46" screen is too big for my 5-6 feet/1.65-1.85m viewing distance)

Have been considering a 40/42 for months and have been resistant for months because I don't want to make a size mistake for a 3rd time Cracking deals about I like the 740v deal but shame about the silver.

Cracking deal that I will most likely miss from being hesitant !

Every review I have read disagrees unless you mean for black levels. Can you qualify your comment?

Damn, just paid the same for 6 series, don't really need 3D, but extra ports are great.
Would instabuy it if I was after a 42" smart tv.

Just hoping to quickly check if this has tv recording to HDD and inbuilt basic video media player ? I am sure the answer is yes to both but thought I'd quickly ask. Also does it feature 2d to 3d conversion for general viewing ?Thanks

I think this one might use the IPS panel from LG - which generally don't get good reviews because the native panel is poor for black levels, contrast and motion. Great for viewing angles though ...

I would be looking at one of the models with a Samsung S-PVA panels unless wide viewing angle is important to you.

Ridiculous deal. Also got the 6 series a few weeks back and hugely impressed with it.

Ridiculous as in good or bad??

Richersounds has the Sony BRAVIA KDL42W653A for the same price, an inferior model I presume for the same price including the 5 year guarantee. Though it has to be collected instore and assuming your local has one in stock

According to the 2nd review

" The TV comes with 4 sets of 3D specs . "

guys got a ps4 would this be ideal for gaming? or The Samsung UE40F6500

This TV was in my JL 'Wish List' for some time. Good reviews wherever I've checked!
Glad I waited as for £ 499.00 it is a good TV to have

I tried a Samsung S-PVA panel when I brought my last tv 2 1/2 years ago. It wasn't for me due to very noticeable pixel delay when using as a monitor and as a result it had to go back. It's a shame that using as a normal monitor is still one of the biggest factors for me otherwise I would agree

It does. It allows you to format an external HDD for recording. It does also play media from HDD.

This is ideal for gaming. Response time is around 6ms making it ideal.

Just bought this with my partner discount so got it for £437

I have decided to go with this over the £100 cheaper Panasonic because it has a game mode, 4 HDMI ports & 3D if I want to use it.
