android TV really let's this TV down
Get a 4k for abit more
I own the 705c and have for a month now. Not had a problem with the android tv side of things
They brought it down to the same price it was at Currys for the 809C at the beginning of December. I been looking at the 805/807/809 for a while now. They all appear to be price matching each other up and down because the 805C was also this price at RS about the same time. Funny thing is the 809C has a better spec slightly than the 805c and that was more money back in early December in Currys.

I wouldn't let the problems that Sony have had with android and youview put you off. There are 100's of positive reviews for these tv's and the one thing you can't get with a comparative LG or Samsung at this price is the picture quality. The Sony blows them out of the water including the cheaper 4k tv's. 4k at this size will only be any good to you if you sit 5 feet or closer to the screen and that's even if you can stream 4k. If you buy a 6 series LG rumour has it they are not a true 4k tv anyway due to the extra pixel (the white one) that some of their sets have.

On a recent test of the 809C in Currys alongside an LG 49UF770V and a Samsung UE50JU6800 the Sony was clearly better when viewing SD channels for bbc1, 2, itv etc and also better on the HD channels as well. There was no indication of increased quality of the HD channels on the LG and Samsung.

When I set all three tv's back to their respective manufacturers usb sticks playing the high quality videos there was no difference between the 1080 of the Sony and 4k of the other two from about 6 to 8 feet away. The Samsung was slow and buggy through the menu system. The LG had a great magic remote and WEBOS 2 is a much improvement of the WEBOS 1 on my tv. The Sony had a sh*t remote which would need to be dumped had I bought one. Sorry Sony owners but I think the remote is terrible when looking at how my large LG and Samsung remotes are designed.

For value the Sony was clearly the winner also at £100 less than the LG and £150 less than the Samsung at beginning of December. The LG was no better than my current 50LB650v yet costing £150 more than I paid.

With all tv's there are pros and cons. No manufacturer is better than another unless you can afford to buy LG OLED but some models of tv's are better when compared with others. If you see a tv then don't buy it because it's 4k, 3d has all the smart apps etc etc. Buy it because it has the best picture when viewing standard and high definition freeview programmes, because that is how most of us view television.

Forgot to mention, as well as the richer sounds 6 year warranty, I also got a 5 year Sony warranty
Would you buy the Sony 805c over the Panasonic tx-50cx680b if you could get them for the same price?

I do (I have this exact model), and it's fairly poor. Has its uses but I remain largely unconvinced that it does anything better than most other proprietary Smart TV interfaces. The supplied apps from Sony, Google etc are all fairly basic, clunky (the iPlayer one is especially tragic) and don't have much polish, and there's not really much choice in the Play Store either other than an abundance of games and dodgy-looking apps that provide international TV channels. Plex works well, feels quick and smooth to use and is one of the few apps that actually makes good use of the "Recommendations" section to give you quick access to the next episode of a show you're watching, but most apps don't use it at all.

Then there's the various performance and stability issues of the Android OS itself (as well as the underlying Sony-specific interface which occasionally appears) which Sony are battling to fix. There's a reason there's so many offers on these TVs at the moment.

Picture quality is fairly decent though, when it remembers your picture settings at least. Still, it's better than my first one which had horrendous backlight bleed/clouding and had to be returned.
I got mine recently from warehouse deal. it is a fantastic Tv for £365, kodi works brilliant on it. it does occasionally crash, but not when your watching something. only when your flicking through the menu. Youview works fine. wifi takes a bit of time to connect, once connected it stays. that could be just my router. picture quality in HD fantastic, yet to try 3d as I don't have the glasses. I would recommend the TV.
I bought this for £480 using staff discount. In the end I returned it due to clouding/uniformity issues in the corners. Other than that it was excellent. Like many people who give this TV bad reviews I came from an awesome Panasonic plasma and I'm waiting for reasonably priced OLED.I wish I's kept my plasma. In the end I bought the 55" 4k version of the Sony on boxing day from amazon for £560 with student discount. At that price I'll put up with poor black levels for a couple of years!
I got it android is fine now it was so slow but in november was nice update picture is simply the best in 1080p in 2015 TVs only oled is better !!! No szajsung no lg no Philips only Sony !! Sony give u replace after one dead pixels rest of company's after 3 4K tv will be great with in 2-3 years time now is new overpriced unusless technology ;))

I have 805c no problems, think the november/december updates sorted alot out.
I recently bought the 8005c off an amazon lightning deal and I think the android side of the TV is fantastic, cannot see what everyone is moaning about
these TVs are cheap for a reason.

also the reason for there being 100s of positive reviews is that Sony are filtering out the bad reviews.

I've had 2 of these, one was 1080 and one was 4K both went back.

but buy if you think it's a good deal, just don't forget to register here:

... for a 43inch, not all people settle for a few inches less
I got the 55" X8005C in the amazon lightning deal having upgraded from a 50W829. The picture is fantastic and I have had no issues whatsoever with the android operating system. Parts of it are really slick, including the application implementation. Some of the settings menus are difficult to get hold of and there is sometimes a small amount of lag with the remote. Other than that, no issues at all.

A lot of the reviews and scare stories were written before the updates were released, then idiots regurgitate this without any real world experience. I understand there were significant problems at the start but technology and firmware evolves.
How can you release a piece of consumer technology with "significant problems" they obviously knew they had a problem before release but went ahead anyway then continued to sell despite these issues.

I can't imagine why anyone would put up with this crap from Sony? They're a huge company why is it so hard to take a mature operating system & cock it up so spectacularly?

If they've can't get it right before release can't imagine they'll keep them up to date with security or OS updates....

Ive had a 4k (Sony x85c - retuned due to OS issues affecting the TV), and watching SD & HD is awful compared to the new 1080p I bought to replace it.. Theres not enough 4k content to justify putting up with poort quality SD/HD...

Id much rather have a decent 1080p than a cheap 4k or even a half decent 4k that has upscaled HD/SD which doesnt really look good!

So a 4k Sony make HD look worse? Don't understand. I'm on the brink of buying the X83C (having spent an age dliberating over the Panasonic 680B)........Am i just wasting my money when all i'm after is picture quality??

they all look worse than a proper 1080p. My Panasonic 50" ax802 is crap for that but a superb PC monitor, great for games and a lot sharper compared to monitors, beaware that not all models do have fast response. Samsung 2015 seems to be faster now and best sd and hd upscaling comes from Samsung only in my opinion

I don't know why people are putting this down for having android? The availability of apps and connectivity with your devices beats any other TV OS.

Picture quality is not bad either for the money this is a very capable TV, gaming and watching sports you cannot complain.

I went 1080p, compared Sony 55w805c to 4k Samsung 55ju6800, side by side 1080 content was clearer on the 1080p screen. Also a lot of change to come with 4k with UHD2 specification, HDR and many pannels only 60hz. I decided as all my content was 1080p it made sense to get a 1080p TV and I'll buy another TV in 2-3 years when 4k content is common place and UHD2 spec in place.

Because people like SteveValo who trail all the Sony deals and continuously posts all the links to bad reviews (which of course is easy). Hardly anyone posts good reviews these days.

I have 2 android TVs and the latest update has cured most if not all issues. So don't let people like him who seem to have a personal vendetta against the brand put you off. You'd think a normal person who doesn't like the tv's to just give it back and be done with it and move on. It he must love it a whloeeeee lot!!

Kodi does crash, quite a bit in my opinion. Does it on my phone and also on my amazon fire tv box. Both have different builds. It works but its not perfect. I may spend some time with it and design my own buid as a lot of the links don't work. Even the ones on the Beast with some that are unfinished which I find surprising.

Sony give u replace after one dead pixels

Really? Is this official policy? Do they replace on-site? I got this tv last week in store and it has a single dead pixel and a little backlight leakage. Don't think it's worth boxing up and taking it back for this but I'd take a swap if they brought it to me!
