With stunning 3D, range-topping Motionflow XR800Hz and the latest Sony Smart technology, the Sony KDL55W829 is a force to be reckoned with.

ACTIVE 3D FOR A THRILLING EXPERIENCE

Once you've experienced 3D TV, ordinary TV just never seems quite the same. Images aren't just projected forward but appear to occupy the space behind the screen, too. This gives images an amazing depth that has never been possible with 2D TV. Thanks to Full HD 3D, active processing, the Sony KDL-55W829B offers breathtaking levels of detail and realism. Helping to enhance both 3D image quality and online video is X-Reality PRO. This intelligent processor recognises the type of material being viewed and optimises the TV accordingly. The result is even greater depth when watching in 3D. Two pairs of glasses are supplied.

MOTIONFLOW XR800HZ FOR SUPER-FAST MOTION

Standard with this Sony 55" 3D TV is Sony's top-end motion control - Motionflow XR 800Hz. This top quality Motionflow system works especially well with fast moving action, such as sports events, without the blur you can see with standard TVs. From a Hollywood blockbuster to a Formula One race, XR800 makes a significant difference.

BASS REFLEX SPEAKERS FOR IMPROVED SOUND QUALITY

Although no match for a separates home cinema system or soundbar, the Sony KDL55W829B's sound system is one of the better built-in systems. With bass reflex box speakers, this Sony TV offers a deeper and more powerful sound than you might expect from such a slim TV. Also helping improve the sound quality is Clearaudio + technology. This enhances dialogue for improved clarity, especially when set against noisy backgrounds. S-Force Front Surround 3D gives an added dimension to the sound with projection to match the 3D pictures. The S-Master 20 watt amplifier ensures it can fill a large room with sound, too.

SMART TV JUST GOT SMARTER WITH ONE-FLICK ENTERTAINMENT

Integrating smart functionality within TV is more seamless than ever with Sony's 2014 TV range. A brand new style of user interface makes accessing smart content more intuitive and less obtrusive. Rather than the range of smart apps dominating the entire screen, they can now be viewed along the bottom of the screen, whilst still watching whatever's being shown on the TV. Linking in to this, Tweet View shows a discreet Twitter feed on the screen, letting you watch and Tweet simultaneously. Taking this one stage further, the optional One-Flick touchpad (RMFED004 - not supplied) controls most functions at the swipe of a finger.

MASSIVE RANGE OF SMART CONTENT WITH THE SONY ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK

At the heart of the Sony KDL55W829B's networking ability is the Sony Entertainment Network (SEN). This gives access to a massive range of apps, including the highly popular YouTube, Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Lovefilm, Twitter, Facebook and many more. In addition to an application based browser for the most well known sites, the KDL-55W829B also comes with a web browser for full Internet access (display of embedded video may be restricted). This Sony TV is also DLNA compliant meaning that you can stream data from your laptop, PC or NAS drive device. Even better, streaming from your home network hub can be via Ethernet cable or the built-in Wi-Fi connection. Thanks to smartphone apps for iPhone or Android, you can take control of the Sony with your phone's comprehensive touch screen.

FOOTBALL MODE

New and exclusive to this year's Sony models is Football Mode. This automatically adjusts the sound settings to enhance the roar of the crowd; making you feel part of the action. You can also browse football videos from YouTube and the FIFA website with ease.

FREEVIEW HD AND SCREEN MIRRORING

With Freeview HD built-in, there's no need for an HD set-top box. Freeview HD also ensures you get the best from the HD screen, giving more depth and detail to TV programmes. Screen Mirroring lets you watch what's on your mobile or tablet, on the big screen - wirelessly (Screen Mirroring Miracast requires a Wi-Fi network and Miracast certified smartphone. Smartphone firmware update may be required). SCART and component inputs also make it flexible enough to add older components you may have.

UNDERSTATED GOOD LOOKS

The TV unit's design is every bit as stylish and subtle as you'd expect from Sony, with long-lasting appeal. With its contrasting, brushed aluminium finish and narrow bezel, this particular Sony 55" TV is one of the most elegant in its class.

For a fully equipped 3D TV with comprehensive Smart technology and sleek design, the Sony KDL55W829 is at the top of its game.

I've got the 50 inch version and standard definition looks pretty good. Better than on my 5 year old Lcd.

Amazing TV this, picture quality is brilliant and also for gaming it don't get much better with minimal input lag

I have a 2012 Sony and it does a great job of processing SD, I would say it won't look to differnt from your Pany.

But the viewing angle is a lot better and you get full resolution. But if you're one of the folk that gets sore head/eyes from it, then it's not for you I guess.

Except on this one. Even though it's active, it still cuts the resolution. 3D is the weak point on this TV - it's not very good. Good thing few people care any more ...

Can anyone comment on the 3d quality? Had a flick through reviews yesterday and a common theme seemed to be a reduction in vertical resolution so not great 3d performance? As 3d isn't the mainstream focus anymore...?

Been waiting around for the Sammy UE55HU7500 to drop a bit in price but am wondering whether this is a better option. Is the difference in price (expecting to pick up the Sammy for around £1500) representative of the difference in quality?

The tv will be wall hung in my front room and whilst it will be used for casual gaming, picture quality is my primary concern.

Any help appreciated as always...

Someone read my mind in the previous post ☺ I still enjoy 3d on the pc and would be great on the big screen too. Bit of a shame it's on the downturn...

Just bought this for £849 at Richer Sounds. Great TV, if anyone's got any questions I'd be happy to answer.

Im looking at a Samsung next month purely for the fact they can decode DTS audio on MKV files, with the addition of the sound bar can this TV decode DTS audio on its own? This would be a better deal than a sammy as i would have been buying a surround system anyway. If this does it, 2 birds 1 stone!

I got this tv refurbished from Sony for £600 but would happily pay £829.99 if the refurb wasn't available so cheap. It's an amazing TV, I read poor reviews about the sound and about the 3D, I'm not a gamer, just a casual user of watching TV, playing fifa and a few blu-rays. I have no issues at all with the sound (without a soundbar) and the 3D looks great to me, I have a few 3D blu rays and I was really impressed with the quality. But alot of people are not bothered with 3D, I'm not really but it's a decent extra to have and enjoy watching the 3D.

I'm not a professional, it's just my opinion and i have nothing really to compare this TV to regarding the 3D but if you're not really bothered with 3D or if it's your first 3D TV like me I would not let the people saying the 3D is bad to put you off.

Bottom line: It's well worth the money

3D is a fad. Nobody cares about 3D, and even less people want it. Therefore, it will soon die out as manufacturers stop supporting it. I've watched a number of 3D sports demos and movies, and it's ok for 5 mins, but soon gets annoying. The novelty wears off extremely quickly.

Ultra-HD is much more important than 3D.

Nope for me a TV shaped like a banana is much more important

Ultra-HD is much more important than 3D.

So you seem to think.

Personally, I'd say getting the panel technology right is more important. Now that plasma has pretty much been dropped, we need something with PQ to rival it - like OLED. LCD/LED is not up to it. LCD/LED still hasn't produced a panel that can match a years old Pioneer Kuro for out and out PQ. Never mind the newer Panasonic Plasmas ...

UHD? Maybe. But it eats a huge amount of bandwidth if you're going to stream it. It's only really of benefit on a 50" screen or above. And people are only really now getting on board with full HD. Still single figure numbers of freely available channels. Think it'll be a long, long time before it's mainstream.

As for 3D, they're still producing films that use it. When it's done well, it's a nice extra - such as Prometheus. Gives the picture more depth. But for mainstream TV, nah. They're about given up on it. My TV came with 3D. I didn't especially want it. But on the movies where it's used well, I still make use of it. But if it died completely tomorrow, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it ....

Curved panels? No comment ....

If you don't need the sound bar, these are available from the Sony Outlet for £659 every few days. There is also a 5% off code floating about if you can find it. You have to check every morning because they sell out very quickly.

They are refurbished by Sony, with 12 month guarantee. I bought one a few weeks ago and it was like new, included all accessories and had no screen "issues" whatsoever. As a Sony rep at a well known store commented to me, the Sony Outlet TVs are all thoroughly checked over by a Sony engineer to make sure there are no problems before it is sent to you, that doesn't happen with a new one .......

I am very pleased with it, and whilst the 3D gets poor reviews, I have watched a couple of 3D blu rays and I thought it was fine - I guess it depends how critical you are

My only complaint is the poor implementation of the media player. It can access the photos and movies on my computer, but presents them in an enormous list of files without any folder structure.

I guess my point (although probably not very eloquently put) is that picture quality is more important to most than gimmicks like 3D. Whether that's UHD, 4k, or just a great 1080p HD picture, it's image quality that people want.

I agree, occassionally a good 3D movie can be quite enjoyable, but like you say for mainstream TV, it's a fad that makers of hardware and content are giving up on.

I agree actually, gaming in 3D is pretty awesome (or at least it was when I tried it a couple of years ago). But I don't think that's quite enough to sustain the production of 3D TVs.

Can anyone figure out how to buy an extended warranty for this set on the co-op website. There are plenty of links to warranty information pages but there does not seem to be any way of getting a price for one and adding it to your basket ?!?!

Might be a good idea to check if your local John Lewis has these in stock and get a price match

dont have a local John Lewis unfortunately.

I have this package - TV is amazing very good - spend some time setting up the picture settings for your living room.

Soundbar is also good but you do have to use two remotes to operate the tv and soundbar.

Thanks - I found that, but as you say, cant find anything for the 55" version.

Still umming & arring over 1080p vs 4k, but a low gaming input lag may just swing it.

Got the 42 inch version of this (same remotes). True you do have to use two remotes, however if it's just for sound, then the soundbar remote can operate the tv sound.

Also noticed that when using a PS4, the media buttons on the tv remote work the PS4 playback, this is a huge plus for me as I miss the media remote I had for my PS3...
