Will it be covered under the warranty for screen burn?
    simon.83's avatar
    Technically no.

Anyone who buys one of these TVs and only uses it to play games (which they're advertised to do, and they have specific gaming features) or watch TV (regardless of whether that's CNN or Sky Sports News for 12 hours a day) and develops any such permanent image retention, then report it to the retailer as something like premature/uneven pixel wear/degradation, not screen burn. Undoubtedly many retailers will dispute this, but every single instance I've seen so far of a customer taking a retailer/manufacturer to the small claims court over OLED burn-in, has won their case and had a refund/replacement TV. As long as you're prepared to put the time in, possibly expenses of an engineer's report, the filing of a claim with the SCC in the first place?, then you're almost guaranteed to be successful (and also get those costs returned), as watching a TV channel is a pretty normal activity for a TV; you can hardly sell a TV where you're not allowed to watch X channel more than Y hours a day, it wouldn't be fit for purpose. Retailers generally rely on customers not being willing/able to go to the hassle of SCC, but if you push, you will get the right result. Some will settle beforehand if you show you're serious.

But burn-in is nowhere near an issue on WOLEDs like it was a few years back. (edited)

It's a good price for the TV, but I'd sooner just spend another £100 and have the peace of mind of the 5 year warranty (6 with RS).

John Lewis have almost 800 of these in their warehouse, I can see them being £899 from JL/RS/Sony etc. in next few weeks.
    jjames87's avatar
RS should price match this I think.

Bear in mind that none of the LG models pass through DTS to a sound bar or AVR. Only important if you watch a lot of blu rays. For this reason I went for the Sony which does pass through DTS

My old Panasonic plasma doesn’t even pass through Dolby Digital

I bought the 2022 model from Costco, (not opened it yet) for £1200 a month back..... wondering with the 10% off voucher I have, is it worth downgrading to a 2021 model and saving a few hundred pounds or stick with the 2022 model and 5 year Costco warranty.....any opinions welcome.
    AndrewWaddin-33961.57250's avatar
5 year warranty and Costco customer service. If you’ve used it then you know how good it is. Also keep and eye on Costco price cos if it goes down you can use the price promise and get the difference back from them. (edited)

Marks electrical have 10 percent of either with Amex offers or their CLEARPAY offer plus 4.25 percent Cashback from top Cashback. If everything works out it would cost 856.64.

For anyone who may have an AMEX…

markselectrical are doing the Sony XR55 for £999 with a 5 year warranty. You may have a 10% cash back offer which takes it down to £900. Not for everyone I know but may benefit some people!

Sony A80K XR65A80KU 65" is £1799, has sony cashback £200, topcashback is 5% and amex 10% cashback. Would be in the £1400 range. Really good deal that if you have it. (edited)

Can anyone tell me if Sony OLED's are thought to be better than LG? I swore by Sony in the CRT days then Pioneer in the later plasma years but it's almost time to take my first steps into OLED.and I don't really have a clue what's what.
    svs242's avatar
Sound also. I think that’s another win for Sony over the others. I was genuinely surprised by how the TV speakers sounded.
  8. james.pondBzo's avatar
Your sending 1k for 1 year of warranty, best get insurance on it then
  9. MartinBurman's avatar
Isn't 4k pointless unless your TV is 77" or over?
    Metalex's avatar
Not at all. It depends on what distance you sit from the TV.

    Taken from rtings.com:

    48542506_1.jpg

So, for a 55” TV, if you sit 7 feet away or closer, the benefits of 4K become apparent. (edited)

Get Richer Sounds to price match and get 6 year guarantee not one year
  11. LebronJames's avatar
Curry’s priced matched and I got an extra 7% off with gift cards through work and on top of that cash back.

I set it up this evening and it’s brilliant. Sony have done an excellent job with the picture quality and even the sound if you choose not to upgrade to something else.
    Kaas_Woljaap's avatar
Did you manage to get the 5 year warranty as per the Currys deal?
  12. fishleg003's avatar
I have the 65" version got it last November no problems here. The TV is only really on during the evening but the picture quality is amazing. I watched house of the dragon at a friend's house then watched it at home and the details you miss in the background was shocking with it being quite a dark show. Any kids shows like finding Nemo etc the colours are incredible. I paid £1500 at Richersounds.

Ours hasn't missed a beat it's always on standby so it is doing a pixel check really every time we use it but no burn in or loss of quality yet.

The sound is very good as well btw and the picture enhancing stuff it does to upscale you don't notice until you go pickup what your watching at another TV. I was watching an old movie Stakeout on Disney and I said to my partner wow they just of had a really good hd copy then I went to watch it upstairs and it was like getting the VHS out.

Depends what you watch but I love mine.

Only thing putting me off this is the 1 year warranty

Remember when the C1 started tumbling and hit £799? I'm waiting for this or a 2022 competitor to get closer to that mark. I could be waiting until 2023 but it's not the end of the world.
    AJ10's avatar
I’d be very surprised if the Sony gets to the £799 mark. They don’t need to price their TVs competitively yet their TVs still go out of stock. LG C1s are cheaper by default, that’s why they went down to £799 which I posted a deal or two on it. The only time I can think of a Sony going that low is when Costco puts specific in-store warehouse clearances.

Does the £100 off code work as the TV is not over a £1000??

Just tried and sadly it doesn't.... Still £999 (edited)

Why not ask them to price match john lewis and give you £100 store credit.
  22. Plugman17's avatar
    Currys might though?
  23. Shaftydude's avatar
Yeah Sony do care about price image like designer goods never going to cheap as it damages the premium brand.
  24. Professor_Chaos's avatar
There doesn’t seem to be a 65inch equivalent of this ?
Also why would you choose this over the Samsung S95b for example ?
    MSK.'s avatar
There definitely is (was?), I own it.
  25. Carlitos_Gneiting's avatar
Great price, but 1 year warranty doesn't convince me.
    Stunning quality
    Got this on 65"
Wish I went for the 77" tbh

Waiting for a deal on a 65 OLED. Either this or an LG C1
    sandman1986's avatar
Think theres one in costco coming up
  27. Lestat69's avatar
I only check those deals nowadays to see if idiots claiming OLED’s are bad and will make you wanna cry when the burn out pixels appear are still about 😬😝
Luckily those fools all educated themselves

Already collecting money for next OLED so hoping prices of flagship 77” from LG and Panasonic will come down to reasonable £2500 soon
Hot deal and voted hot but yeah, would still love 5 years warranty and not because it’s OLED, just because we have been spoiled recently and that should be a norm for anything pricey! 🙌🏻
    Oye's avatar
If OLED burn in isn't an issue, then why do Manufacturors not cover that as part of their warranty? Go fanboy for an OLED somewhere else.
  28. Ouzoherb's avatar
Dont forget screen burn does not prevent you using the tv if it happens its just another logo and there are plenty of those these days. Not great but not a disaster. None on my cx after 1500 hours of fortnite so im not too worried (edited)
  29. Johnlenham's avatar
Since this is 55+ is the C1/C2 the only real option at 50 or lower? (I need to to be 111cm at a max :/)
    jjames87's avatar
    No, richersounds.com/son…tml

Think they have a cheaper one as well, but don't know anything about it.
  30. pmaker's avatar
thank you, i will email rishi sunak for price match
  31. Max-Power's avatar
I got the 48 of this a while back, great TV. Wish I was able to get the 55 back then, but was way too expensive.
  32. Eddy19's avatar
For those that have it. What your thoughts on the semi-gloss/matte finish to the tv? I have a lot of daylight coming into the room as it’s adjacent to large windows. Does it look cheap or less premium than the gloss of the larger screen size tvs or the 2022 models?
    M
    TheManWhoLikesABargain's avatar
I have a window that lets sun in during the day. The tv deals with it excellently. I believe the 65 has a more Matt finish over the 55 if I remember correctly (I could be wrong) but it’s very very watchable 🏻 🏻
