Couldn't decide between the Sony H55 and Sony W380 - but this just sealed the deal & placed order.
Thanks A+

Metal. This is a good camera and normally sells for around double this price. Very, very hot!

'The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W380 is a new 14 megapixel compact camera with a wide-angle 5x zoom and 2.7 inch LCD screen. Featuring a metal body, the Sony W380 offers a high-quality 5x, 24-120mm equivalent Sony G lens with a fast maximum aperture of F/2.4 and Super SteadyShot optical image stabilisation.'

Hot price for the camera but I'm really not keen on Sony cameras. Have twice taken a Sony camera on holiday to have it go kapoot, only to be disowned by Sony afterwords saying it was my fault for taking the camera from a cool room (air conditioned hotel room) to a warm place (outside). Pretty useless excuse and monumental loss for me. I wouldn't buy another!

what I particularly like about this camera is that it has no plastic flappy covers over it's usb connector

Wow, amazing price!

Bargain!
Anyone know how this compares to Panasonic TZ7 ??

nice...

What's better this or the canon 130

Well, speaking as someone who recently lost a very close family member to a brain haemorrhage, I'm appalled at the way that this 'bargain' has been described. You're an idiot. Think before you type your absolute nonsense on here. Moron.

Though not double price , we can get it for 114 in Ebay

Still an awesome deal

This is well HOT!!!! Good find

I have a close friend who was a Nun too!!!....sorry for your loss, but you are a hypocrite

Hot deal!! So close to ordering!

Also gotta defend the OP here. Obviously he had no intent with his comment and I'm sure it's very difficult to lose someone like that. But if you start taking offence to every lighthearted comment on Internet forums or the tv or radio you might as well lock yourself away before you explode!

this or the canon ixus 130?

This is better made than the canon

@Flobbalob

You have a mother who is a nun - where should I start with that? Listen, if you don't understand the point I'm making, I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain it. End of story. I've said what I want to say. Stupidity beyond belief.

Thanks for that and the link, the only thing that's killed it is this from the review....

"Unfortunately the W380's image quality leaves a rather more bitter taste in the mouth. The 14 megapixel sensor produces images with too much noise and smearing of fine detail, even at the base ISO sensitivity of 80, especially if the picture is shot in anything less than near-perfect lighting."

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W380 is a doppelganger of last year's WX1 camera … The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W380 is a doppelganger of last year's WX1 camera that we liked so much, with a few less features and cheaper price tag, but it's unfortunately ruined by the 14 megapixel sensor and the resulting noisy, smudgy images.Starting with the positives, the 24mm wide-angle lens is a great performer, with not too much barrel distortion despite the extreme angle of view, a very versatile 5x focal range that allows you to get close-up and personal, and the winning combination of effective anti-shake system and a fast maximum aperture that makes it easier to take sharp pictures in low-light. The multitude of different shooting modes and options targeted at less experienced users also make the Sony W380 a good candidate for those looking to dip their toe into the digital photography pool. High definition movie recording and the always-fun Sweep Panorama mode are the icing on the cake.Unfortunately the W380's image quality leaves a rather more bitter taste in the mouth. The 14 megapixel sensor produces images with too much noise and smearing of fine detail, even at the base ISO sensitivity of 80, especially if the picture is shot in anything less than near-perfect lighting. This isn't really a problem if you're only making small prints or using the images for the web, but printing at larger sizes or severely cropping the images really shows up the problems of cramming too many megapixels onto too small a sensor. Add in unwanted purple fringing in any high-contrast situation, soft pictures with no in-camera option to increase the sharpening level, and a limited shutter speed of 2 seconds that prohibits most night photos, and it's fair to say that image quality isn't the W380's strong suit.An aggressive price of £220 partially makes up for the W380's deficiencies, but ultimately we can't recommend a camera that simply takes poor pictures. If you like the form factor and features offered by the W380, the virtually identical WX1 model with its significantly better 10 megapixel backlit sensor is a much more attractive proposition.

seems the reviews say the image quality on the canon is better..

@money-talks and @mccririck

I hear you, but don't forget the review states "An aggressive price of £220" so for this price you may have to compare with cheaper cameras.

The DCS-WX1 is still around £160

Both arent great though. It's those 14 megapixel sensors - best avoided on compact cameras.
Edited by: "mccririck" 7th Dec 2010

Bought this several months ago....but returned as disappointed with really poor LCD screen which was dim...and took about 4 seconds a picture with a fast memory card. The wide angle is great as is the price, however...

canon ixus 130 is better
so is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ8 which I have ended up with

Though both significantly more expensive!!

Is this better than the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7?

Thanks

No. TZ7 has a much greater zoom range and takes much better pictures, but you won't get a TZ7 for anywhere near this price.....

Different sort of camera, the TZ7 has a big zoom, this has a modest zoom. But the short answer is no.

Bargain!Anyone know how this compares to Panasonic TZ7 ??

Very hard to beat the Panny! Actually they aren't really competitors as this has only a 5x zoom vs the Panny's 12x.

Was about to order an IXUS 130, but the price tag on this has persuaded me.

Thanks to the OP, I've nearly had an epileptic fit.

Check reviews, Canon make fantastic. Cameras, I think you'll find the Ixus 130 will be a better bet.

I don't think the op should have used the Brain talk...

Man there are some overly sensitive people here, OP you meant a joke and it should be taken as that, Seems we have overly active Politicaly Correct Groupies running amok.

Sorry for peoples losses but they are your losses so please try and remember your misery does not need our company.

This is about the Deal and its a Hot Deal
