Sony Centre at Heathrow T5: VAT cashback immediately deducted from ticket price

Hi,
just been through Heathrow today and in the Sony Center there they were also giving the VAT cash back prices but with one big advantage:
The price you pay is immediately the price excluding VAT, i.e. you don't have to claim the money back afterwards. They do deliver home for free, so don't worry about carrying around your Telly on the plane
Of course not everbody gets the opportunity to shop there but I hope it is helpful to some. They also have netbooks, notebooks, cameras etc. there.

What's stopping you sending your receipt in to Sony and getting the VAT back again...

It'll be pretty obvious from the receipt.
Plus very dishonest - tut tut.

I thought you didn't pay VAT at shops at airports anyway, isn't that the point of them?

That was loooooon time ago. No longer the case, especially withing European destination.
For that reason the shops are also no longer called 'duty free' but 'travel value'

Fairy nuff! Never normally buy anything so guessed I missed that!

Why is this cold?

Still called 'duty free' and 'tax free' shopping if you fly within the eu.
I was in T5 today and 250gb PS3 was £200 - tax free price.

They still have duty free but as far as I know it only applies if you are flying to somewhere outside EU.

The only way you could get all your VAT back is to pay 5p or less.

You don't get VAT back you just get 17.5% off.

& at airports I think international flights external of the EU don't pay VAT

You don't get 17.5% off. You get pre VAT price, which is prior to 17.5% added on. It doesn't work the same both ways.
