In my opinion yes. It has 1080 video recording for a start and decent battery life. The gps is a bit of a novelty.

Nice price, and ok camera for the £££

it takes SD cards as well as sony memory stick duo, but SD cards are a lot cheaper than Sonys memory sticks

CMOS sensor, similar to those found in dslr's, I believe but the pictures aren't a patch on my nex 5 or Eos 550. The night shots (or low light) are some of the best ice seen on a compact too. And the 1070 videos auto focus is better than the nex 5 which is twice the price.

I thought the Nex 5 is carp in the dark compared to the TZ10 from my experience.

I was torn between the tz10 and DSC-HX5 but the sony had the edge on the tech for me with panoramic and better resolution in hd
there is not much between them put though sony is currently about £30 cheaper!

Compared to Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 / ZS7Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 / … Compared to Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 / ZS7Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 / ZS7Panasonic's Lumix TZ10 / ZS7 is the latest in a long line of enormously successful pocket super-zooms from the company which arguably came-up with the idea in the first place. As such, the TZ10 / ZS7 is the model to beat and therefore the main rival for Sony's HX5. Both cameras unsurprisingly share a great deal in common including super-zoom ranges packed-into very similar-looking bodies, HD video, 3in screens, HDMI ports and GPS capabilities. Delve into the specifications though and significant differences emerge. In its favour, the HX5 boasts higher resolution movies in the 1080i format, much faster shooting at 10fps in the full resolution (albeit only for ten images), in-camera HDR (albeit with only two images), image-stacking to reduce noise at higher sensitivities, wireless sharing of photos with TransferJet, a compass (driven by the GPS), and Sony's innovative sweep panorama which can automatically stitch together multiple images in-camera taken in a single pan. The HX5 also records altitude data which is absent from its rival. In its favour, the Lumix TZ10 / ZS7 features a slightly longer 12x zoom to the Sony's 10x range (25-300mm vs 25-250mm), a more detailed screen (460k vs 230k), full PASM modes (the Sony offers P and M, but not Aperture and Shutter Priority), location name and landmark details on-screen (driven by the GPS and a built-in database), quicker acquisition of nearby new locations in the default mode, support for SDXC cards (although at least the Sony HX5 now works with SDHC alongside Memory Stick), multiple aspect ratios without compromising the angle-of-view, and two extra Megapixels (although in our tests they recorded roughly similar degrees of real-life detail). The 1080i video coupled with 10fps burst shooting gives the HX5 two key advantages over the Panasonic, but the TZ10 / ZS7's built-in database of locations coupled with quicker response makes the GPS more useful, and many will prefer its broader manual exposure controls, higher resolution screen and slightly longer zoom. .

I have the TZ10 and im very very pleased with it. Without a doubt the TZ10 will retain its value better than the Sony if you don't plan on keeping it forever.

Although the Sony does use a CMOS sensor, it is an Exmor R (reverse the position of the sensor to give the camera more ability to capture light) - thus giving much better low light shooting than a TZ10 - I have used both in depth in store, for this price, it would be a HX5 all day long

The Nokia N8 beat this camera in a blind test of image quality.

^^ This Exmor R is great for low light conditions

Surely, this comparison is a joke

i bought this camera and sold it after 2 weeks because I wasn't impressed with the image quality. My 5 year old Canon Ixus 65 took better quality photos. The main reason I bought this camera was to get decent photos of my children in low light conditions. This camera boasted how it excelled in these conditions and had features like twilight mode. The images I achieved in low light were disappointing and no better than my ageing canon. Images were grainy and most had motion blur.

The camera did have some great features which worked well.

1) HD video capture was excellent (requires a SDHC class 6 or above to shoot HD video)
2) Panoramic sweep was very simple and worked great.
3) Battery life was impressive

As a camera it has a great spec and fun features but the image quality just isn't good enough which is the most important thing to me.

Before buying this camera I had a play with a friends Panasonic TZ10 which convinced me into buying a compact superzoom camera. I must say, the TZ10 is a better camera and produced noticeably better images than the TZ10.

If you want a compact which takes great photos in low light then the best compact on the market is the Canon S95 but it's much more expensive than the HX5 and TZ10.

Thats interesting. Almost tempted to buy after that mini-review ! X)

I bought this camera last year after toying with the idea of getting a TZ10, and I haven't been disappointed. The twilight mode for pictures in low light and the panaroma modes have completed justified me getting this over the TZ10 after managing to get great results with both.

Amazing Camera. I bought this after having the TZ7 and the Casio H15, I was really dissapointed with both the panny and casio with indoor noise and general poor focus etc, I also own a Pentax K-R and so know how a photo should look.

I then found this on Amazon (marketplace) via willen trading for £109.99 they had 3 left so I bought them all (one for me one for my dad and one for my step dad). We're all over the moon with this camera.

Although I got it much cheaper it's well worth the £157 too

Wow you must take some photo's and videos. The 32gb holds almost 7000 photos or 3 1/2 hrs of video or a combination of both at maximum detail.
