This is way too much money for a 5 year old camera that's been superseded so many times. The fact that Sony thinks they can continue to leave old technology products at their original selling prices shows they are willing to rob the public in a world where electronics get cheaper over time.

I am a Sony A7ii owner before anybody starts but am getting sick of their pricing policies. I've been Sony since the a100 came out but they're slowly pricing the public out of their products
Great little camera and a great price. It may have been superseded by other versions but they are a lot more expensive and actually I reckon this is the best version anyway.
Yea had one of these a while back, it's capable of taking some great photos, miles better than similar priced small sensor cameras. It's half the price of the newer models, it also benefits by being 5mm thinner and lighter than the newer models.

But should a slightly improved one be so much dearer each time when they should be replacing this first model not adding to it?

Yes they are all good 1" sensor cameras it the point is electronics come down in price over time not just keep going up

When ford brings out a new Mondeo they don't carry on selling the old one at the original price and the new one at nearly double do they?!
Nice camera
it is annoying that Sony are still charging so much for 5 year old tech. you would hope they would at least have an updated version in this size for this money.

but considering even after all this time the other manufacturers have hardly tried to compete it is hardly surprising.

Can't see the price coming down much until someone comes up with something better, i.e., same spec but in a smaller body. If you are interested in the case then this is a good price as the case on it's own is £70, so only £180 for the camera.

Only 2.9 x optical zoom, on the MK5 (_;)
I still have one. It still out performs most of the competition. I had the M2 but sold it as outside of the articulated screen there was no benefit to be gained and that just bulked the camera out. They still hold their price because people are willing to pay it and they still sell.
I also have the Panasonic LX7 which holds its own against the RX100.
Both lack a good zoom but Superzoom compact all have very slow lenses.
I have the Sony HX50 for my paparazzi shots.

The Mk1 was never superseded, it's still rated as one of the best compact cameras you can buy..

News just in. They're a completely different company, plus 80% of the old car will be reused in the new model.

This camera uses a substantially larger image sensor than conventional point & shoots, you can click here for a size comparison. The larger the sensor, the larger the lens needs to be, so the choice is either make the lens larger or the zoom range smaller.
If something is good and continues to outperform competitors then why should it be heavily discounted just because it's not the latest model? I'd prefer a model to get bugs ironed out and performance optimised but that rarely happens as each model is discontinued every 12 to 18 months and support dries up. It also means those that paid full whack 5 years ago continue to get support which is unlikely with the majority of cameras these days. If it ain't broke....

I've got the Panasonic TZ80 and it's so plasticy compared to earlier models... I almost wish I'd waited and I'd have considered this.
About £180 at cex used but with a 2 year warranty. However. Ow that I have posted this there may not be any in stock for delivery depending on when you see this message.

I got the M3 of this camera from cex using vouchers I'd been collecting and I can safely say I haven't used my d600 since. Basically exceptional pics from a take anywhere size camera. Being able to tilt the flash up or at an angle is a revelation

eh? it was released at twice this price
I got it for between 250-300 quid in Japan in the first year of was out. So to me at least it feels more expensive.

thats quite a range .. did you just throw a handful of notes at the shopkeeper?
or maybe it was dependant on exchange rates, market, being after release, lower cost of electronics in general etc?
it was years ago I can't remember exactly how much it was. but it was during golden week and was on offer, it jumped up in price significantly after.

so all the above and on special offer... k
exchange rate was about the same or worse back then if I recall. generally I have found over the years Japan isn't significantly cheaper for electronics than here.
Brilliant camera! Remember this image is compressed compared my original. Worth every single penny!
