Impressive detail

A 20.1 megapixel image sensor on the Sony Cyber-shot DSCW810B Compact Digital Camera captures every last detail, allowing you to relive the beauty and excitement of every moment. Autofocus and digital image stabilisation make it easy to capture subjects with great clarity, and colours are rich and detailed.

Wide-angle lens and scene modes

With a 26 mm wide-angle Sony G lens and 6x optical zoom you can get even closer to your subject and even more in the picture. A range of scene modes help you to achieve great results at the push of a button - choose from a selection including Night Scene, Beach and Pet Mode.

The built-in flash will light up even the darkest of environments, with a range of flash settings to best suit your needs.

Get creative

The 360° panorama function allows you to capture the natural beauty of landscapes and skylines with its wide-angle field of view. Capture flattering portraits using the Beauty Effect mode - retouch photos in an instant, removing unsightly blemishes and wrinkles. The W810B automatically saves edited images while keeping the original safely stored.

Enjoy a range of practical features like the self-timer, filter effects and helpful extras including face detection and a smile shutter.

Remember your memory cards

It's important to have the right memory card for your camera. The memory card will determine how fast an image is saved and how fast an image is uploaded.

If you're shooting high definition videos along with high resolution images then it's best to invest in a high performance memory card. A high performance memory card will get the best out of your photography, ensuring the best continuous shooting speed and high quality data capture.

I got one of these for work purposes, the sensor isn't great, my 2013 phone camera sensor seems a lot better.
20mp or not, I wouldn't bother with this unless you're wanting a cheap and cheerful 'throwaway' bit of kit.
Hope this helps!

this feels like entrapment!
Bought this from Amazon a few weeks back (similar price) for my 7 yr old to play with. My phone takes much better pictures so unless you need a separate device, I wouldn't bother. He's happy with it but it's just a bit of fun for him

Have you used this camera? I have and the images are very soft.
Yes, my phone was more expensive but hey...it's also a phone ... and a sat nav .... And a social network took etc.
Is the Sony better at full zoom, of course it is but who is going to buy it for that one purpose, and the images are still poor! If you need to zoom and have decent pictures you need to spend more. Simple. If you can't afford more, just don't bother.
As said, I bought it for a child. For that purpose it's perfect but for anything else it's not great.

right so the sony is better when you zoom - ok got it
sounds useful to have a camera more versatile than a phone thats cheaper and better zoomed in but thats just me
99p cheaper at carmarthen cameras free delivery too
Interesting comments. Our 7 year-old has our compact camera now as the delay is so slow and my Samsung S8 gets faster and better shots. The result is I don't even think to carry a separate camera any more (other than my digital SLR occasionally) so I stopped looking at the market.

Are there any compact cameras these days that stand out for their exceptional results over and above a high-spec phone?

I think it is just you. And you completely ignored the point so I'll say it again .... Whilst the zoomed pictures are better than a phone, they are still not good enough to be useful.
So, unless you're a child, avoid this camera and any compact camera at this price.
But anyway, that's just the opinion of someone who actually owns this camera.
The one thing phones can’t manage is decent wildlife shots. If you travel far it’s still worth carrying a real zoom camera

Do these things still Exist?
I thought these were extinct.
Had a sony camera a few years back. The flash stopped working on it after 18months.....very disappointed in it. Got a panasonic now, much better and more robust.

The Panasonic TZ100 has pretty good image quality, it's really small and offers a x10 zoom meaning you can carry this and a smart phone using either as the situation warrants.

You cant really compare a £500 phone to a £70 camera

I agree. I'm just looking for a use case for one of these compact cameras for people who carry a £500 phone all the time.

Only if you can't afford £500 for a phone and require a camera, it would be worth paying a little bit more for something better though.

"Struggles in low light, poor video quality, ease of use niggles, imprecise zoom
This is a disappointing camera that fails in too many areas. Picture quality is below par and video quality is poor"

Should I buy it?

No - there are far better cameras at a similar price. Take a look at the Nikon Coolpix S7000 as an alternative - it's a much better option if you're on a limited budget.

Yes the TZ-100 as mentioned is one of the best along with the sony rx100m3. Periodically with cashback promos you can buy these for less than £400.
This is not quite as powerful a camera as these but was still a good deal hotukdeals.com/dea…117

All about needs and budget I suppose... and waiting for a deal.
