Back on sale again, this is a great compact camera with a 1 inch CMOS sensor and 3x zoom in a small form factor. I think this camera is fairly unbeatable for the price - but I'm happy to take suggestions as I'm looking to buy one!

I'm hoping it will make a brilliant point and shoot for holidays but also let me have a play with the settings and learn a little more.

£150 cashback from Sony for purchases up to 31/12/2017 and includes 2 year warranty. Also 2% quidco.

The RX100 I is also available for £259.99 after £70 cashback, but I think the upgraded chip and lens in this model, as well as the 180 tilt screen and viewfinder make it worth the upgrade.

Edit: Amazon cheaper at £520 (£370). Amazon link

cheaper at amazon

voted cold

may be better to buy from wex for 20quid more if want that free case also

annoying the double discount as imo (for me) this is the wrong level to buy at - but they make it cheaper to lure you anyway - meh!

then again it does seem to have an extra years warranty so that is good - maybe make that clear op in the title (makes same as john lewis price)
anyway same price in lots of place - check warranty/freebies to suit

Cheaper at Amazon and much better customer service. As previous poster said you could get from Wex and then sell the case on eBay. Personally I find the case adds too much bulk.
Great camera BTW
What others would this be equivalent to? Canon G7x mk I or II?

Cashback is available on Amazon. Regardless of which retailer you choose, the RX100 mkiii for ~£380 is a great deal.

What do you mean no cashback? It’s a Sony run deal. You claim via their website, not Curry’s
I have the V2 of this camera and it is fantastic! I'm jealous of V3 owners, as V3 is when you can install extra apps to it (for things like time lapse)

The image quality is great. And transferring images over WiFi is so convenient.

Getting the V3 for this kinda money is an amazing deal. If I didn't already have its older model, I'd be all over this.

Yeah true. Friend of mine got an absolute bargain a couple week back for the V5 from amazon warehouse when they were offering the 20% discount. Camera came brand new and he registered it with Sony to get (I think) £100 cashback. Cost less than £500 and it's such a superb camera. I would've bought that but I missed out on the 20% discount that week. In future will keep an eye out for AW when possibly works with Sony cashback.

Ugh, don't tell how cheap it was, please, I'm on the hunt for one now. Funny how whenever Amazon warehouse has a deal on I always forget to look the things I actually need

Little confused by this though:
"Sony will not accept claims against products purchased from eBay or from third party sellers on Amazon.co.uk's Marketplace platform (whether listed as new or used)."

Is there that much difference between Mk3 and Mk5?

Is there that much difference between Mk3 and Mk5?

I'm no expert, but this is good: photographylife.com/son…son

I'm mainly using it for video though, so I'm wondering whether the Panasonic LX15 or Canon G7X are actually better options
Wow, super deal. Compacts are great, I've been using the LX15 as my main camera for nearly a year now. Can't go wrong with either the G7X , RX100 M3 upwards or the LX15.

Good point that it's cheaper on Amazon, I hadn't noticed. I'm always reassured when the shop mentions cashback though, so that combined with the extra warranty probably makes a purchase from here or John Lewis the better buy for me.

I think a warehouse deal 'should not' be eligible for cashback, but that doesn't mean they won't accept it...

The cashback is with Sony. It also quite clearly stated on the Amazon product page that £150 is available.

A friend has got the v. The video quality is insane and the slo-mo is mind blowing. I'm a dslr user myself but after seeing what the little Sony is capable of I'm gunna grab one for my camera bag to shoot video on

irrelevant - why not make a donation to ken so he doesnt need to write more crap?

also why not troll your own deals with the 1 inch crap? why not post it in your own micro 4/3rds deals - where do you think that name comes from? and the 1/2.3" in compacts etc etc

noone cares about actual sensor size, only the relative sizes
Edited by: "brilly" 18th Dec 2017
@brilly - I disagree.
zzzz2 h, 53 m ago

@brilly - I disagree.

so? looking at your history you post micro 4/3rds deals 4/3rds is reference to tube diameter
4/3rds of an inch is 33.9mm

sensor size = 18 mm × 13.5 mm (22.5 mm diagonal)

nothing like 4/3rds of an inch

now if you compare the cameras via crop factor is only 35% 'worse' for '1inch' than for micro 4/3rds but you dont seem to have a problem with the 4/3rds even though your argument implies they are massively bigger and exempt from your own argument
the 35% is very very close to the difference between Aps-c and micro4/3s which is 33%

to me if anything that shows that 1 inch are BETTER than people think as they are only 35% off systems which are considered fairly similar in class yet 1 inch cameras tend to be much smaller whereas 4/3rd dont tend to be much smaller than asp-c

I was away and missed out too.

If the camera comes brand new (as in my friend's case) you can register it, give Sony the amazon invoice via cashback website (it doesn't show it's amazon warehouse, just amazon sarl etc) and see how it goes. I've done it myself on a couple of recent sony purchases for a flash gun and a camera and got the cashback direct to my bank account within a week of requesting it. It is a gamble but if it works out like for my friend and I, it's a fantastic bargain. I wouldn't post it because there is no guarantee it'll work, and the 20% discount on Amazon warehouse is now no longer available, although my purchases didn't take advantage of the 20% discount. Like I say, keep an eye out (I got my A6300 with kit lens for about £580 and it was brand new and been registered with Sony, for instance).
