I shoot pro dslr. But I have the mk 3 version of this camera and it is far from a point and shoot. I know alot of pro photographers use this series of camera as it is amazing and far beyond what mobiles can do. For those that are happy with phones use them. For those that know how to use a camera a rx100 is an amazing camera

Too expensive , unless a photographer no need for so expensive camera
Agree about price, just a lot of money for what is a point and shoot with a larger sensor. Most people I see out and about now taking photos are using a smart phone. So I struggle to see why anyone would pay this much money for a small camera , they would either use a smartphone or buy in to interchangeable lens camera I have owned a RX100 v1 and enjoyed using it and it cost me £200, is the V5 worth £700, it is a no for me.

But a lot of people are photographers and might be looking at this, Argos and Jessops want £949 for this camera so based on that it's still a deal if you're in the market for one.
Too expensive, but if you are going to spend this much on a camera, get a canon or nikon.

Is that a comedy post? If not that's a stupid comment to make.

I think we can agree this camera is not for people who typically shoot video in portrait orientation on their phones i.e. dumb FWs.
It's aimed at people who want good image quality in a small package.

And I shoot canon dslr's but even their compacts can not compare with Sonys
I'm using a Canon 700D with the kit lens to film some YouTube videos for my kids. Will this Sony provide better results with average lighting? The Canon takes a lot of faffing about with settings while still not giving an ideal picture. Looking for an upgrade to make things simpler and quicker. The price of the Sony is probably as much I can stretch to. Any advice please?

Quality is excellent. But extendablity is low compare to canon and nikan. My friend have one. He took a photo of my daughter 5 years ago. But still none of the camera beat it.
Might look into a Canon 80D....Maybe pre-owned.....(fierce)

I need to understand how it can take better photographs than lets say the sony a6000 that was posted on here for £270, I know that you have to factor a lens but it still does not equate to £700 and you have a camera with a larger sensor?

The selling point of the RX100 V is its size. It is widely regarded as the best, truly pocketable camera. As good as it is, you can’t fit an A6000 with lens in your trouser/shirt pocket. Being the best in its range always comes with a premium, as with any electrical items.
People voting cold because they don't need the camera or have no idea how this camera destroy any smartphones.
Cheapest price so far. (Except gray import)

Fantastic camera! I have the mkII version which I use underwater (with a waterproof housing) and get amazing results. The 1" sensor is truly amazing at capturing details in low light too.

I am sure that is not the total reason for voting cold, It is a lot of money for a small camera period. I have owned the Mk1 and I paid £200 for that, it was a nice camera but would I pay £700 for the latest version, no. I think this camera now should be retailing around £500 given the fact that you can get a a digital slr for a lot less, if size is a factor then there is the Lumix TZ100 that is also small and a lot cheaper?.

But if someone is looking for this specific camera, why will he/she go for a Lumix TZ100. The RX100 Mk5 is the best camera in its category.
But don't get me wrong, I know what you mean, because I feel the same when I see overpriced Apple products.
This compact camera simply amazing not bulky compared to others, price is ridiculous expensive but its what you pay for high quality Zeiss lens and performance.

The only down side about this Rx100v is the battery drain pretty quick, hopefully if sony could update this in future

JL will price match this and get 2 year warranty, buying oversea is cheaper with no warranty.
I can't believe this has gone cold. It is really cheap. I'm torn between this and waiting for the a6500 to drop in price. People comparing this to a camera phone haven't a clue.
I own one of these after years shooting professionally on DSLR. I use it for Vlogging/Video mostly but have to say that this camera is absolutely incredible for the results it gets.
Ignore anyone shouting that they think it's too expensive. This camera is a genuinely fantastic little unit and well worth the money. I love mine (bought it via a link on here just before Christmas)
