Tried and trusted camera. Not a lot of cameras out there offer this quality output at this price for your jacket pocket

Great pocket camera.
What is this?
Shame no viewfinder. I think the IV onwards has one.

I own the mkiii. It does have a pop up viewfinder
Fantastic camera. Use it over my big DSLR when traveling.
Charge using mobile charger
Great pictures.
Built in WiFi allows to transfer images to phone.
Has viewfinder which is useful
Great fast lens for low light.
First off I love Sony cameras. Had their alpha dslrs since they took over Minolta, had all the nex cameras since they were born then moved onto apsc a6000, a6300, etc then on to the a7ii, a7rii and now a7iii

BUT

I think it’s disgusting the prices they charge when they replace a previous model in this superb line of cameras. Rather than lower the previous gens price and bring out the new model at a similar price plus inflation they keep the previous gen at the same price and bring out the new one at silly money. Technology comes down in price over time so this shouldn’t happen.

This should’ve been discontinued or lowered way before now. This is a nearly acceptable price but bear in mind how long this has been out now and it’s just a joke.

I love the RX concept and have had a mk4 and mk6 but the pricing is out of order.

Rant over

Would you recommend an RX? Am tempted by this for a first camera to get into photography and to use while travelling and doing long-distance backpacking expeditions. My one concern is that a small-form camera like this won't offer much over what I already have on my phone (Galaxy Note 10+)

Cheers

What I would say is that if you have reasonably large pockets and can squeeze a few extra quid towards it you’ll find an a6300 or a6400 (even a6100) will last you far longer and give you upgrade options by way of lenses. Get any of those with the pancake kit zoom and they will annihilate this.

If you really do want a compact and this is your max budget you won’t find a better camera.

The Panasonic are soft lenses but great cameras but to me any other parameter you can regain during processing but sharpness is something you realistically can’t.

Its waayyyy better then any phone camera available at this point anywhere in the universe. You defo need to add a grip to it, otherwise slips out easily. Great for travel. Dont think its weather sealed though.

Ah good to know makes it allot better.
Looking at investing to film videos and I’d prefer a compact camera that had Audio output. Does this have that at all as it doesn’t look like it. Any other recommendations (£400 and below) would be appreciated 🏻
I owned the Rx100 mark V. Worst camera I have ever owned. It spent more time being repaired than being in my hands taking photos. I sold it before the warranty expired. Too much technology in too small and fragile a space. Also, the 1 inch sensor has too much noise in low light.

The mark 1 is still being sold and still fetches close to £300, Most manufacturers would have long discontinued previous models let alone one that has been superseded several times, I guess they must still sell, I managed to sell my mint mark one 2 years ago for £170 so in my opinion these cameras are over priced now, especially since the Lumix tz100 can often be had for less

The later models are very expensive for a small sensor
I have a mk4 is a decent compact but these things are very fragile.

It’s important to bear in mind that a camera like this will give you the physical controls that a camera phone lacks. I’m sure that your phone can take a really nice picture but this will give you a much more hands on shooting experience, easy access to PASM modes and control of aperture and shutter speed, exposure compensation, an optical viewfinder, as well as mount for a tripod, RAW capture, etc.

I was in Jessops the other day and saw that they had a deal on for the RX100 at £200. I was quite excited as I just thought that it would be a model that was a couple of years old but was a little spruced surprised when the guy in the shop said that it was a Mk 1. I’d just assumed that it would have been retired years ago, similar to how Canon deal with their Powershot G models add new ones come out.

That was a good price for the mark 1 that really is over priced along with most of the range now. I recently picked up a Lumix TZ100 with a longer zoom, viewfinder etc for under £300, making Sony,s once flagship cameras look as they are, overpriced.
Cold, can't make phone calls or surf the web. Just trolling... Decent price.
