Battery price around £50 and case £9 so that sweetens the bargain some more doesnt it.

Does anyone have any first hand experience of the Sony DCR-HC37 ?
Is it any good for shooting at night/in the dark, eg. concerts ?
What is the sound quality like?

Any reviews online?

It's a really good camera for it's price-range (around £200), but I can't comment specifically on the situations in which you want to use it. It's worked well in low light/evening conditions around the house, but gigs and stuff would probably be a bit more demanding.

Either ways, Amazon's deal is really good to start off with, and the fact that you get all that gear throw-in is a really big bonus! I paid £20 more a month ago, and all I got were MiniDV tapes :-( if only I'd waited!

Must stop buying my own deals....just went for one, the freebies sold it to me!

Egg Card holders could get it slightly cheaper at ]Dixons. It is priced at £185.70 with £3.99 shipping but £9.30 (5%) via Egg card cashback and £5.57 (3%) Quidco can be got back.

My camera came today. It's weenie!
I also ordered the 10 tapes from amazon. Either I ordered them from the marketplace as the Amazon ones were out of stock, or I just messed up, but got the tapes today also and it's two packs of 5 with a cleaner for each pack.
It's on charge at the monent, but will have a good tinker with it later!

I too ordered 10 amazon tapes which is holding my order up as they dont have stock yet, never mind you can tell us how good it is while I twiddle my thumbs ;-)

Is there a way to print out Sony claim form without printing all that black background? :giggle:

or better still will it come with the form ?

Received mine few days back. A great piece of kit at this price.

Can some one tell me how I can download film on to computer please?

My computer doesn't have firewire.

Still not had a chance to have a play! :x
But if your computer doesn't have firewire, just get a firewire card from somewhere like Ebuyer. I ordered one for less than £9 the other day. Mind you I felt I just had to spend an extra £21 to take it over £30 for google checkout.

thnks for the pointer peteivy.

Mine arrived a few days ago too, the kids have made a movie with it and I must say I am very pleased with the buy, Both XP and Vista recognised the camera for use in transfering dv to the laptops for edit and movie making so no grief there. The 40x optical zoom is ott for hand held shots though, you really need it on a tripod for that amount of zoom, nice to have though.
Bags of options in the manual that I havnt had the time to try out yet.
Recommended in the under £200 range thats for sure.
I sent off for my free case and battery too

Just a reminder that for you to be able to claim the free case and battery, purchases must be made by Monday 7th May. (inclusive).

Can I resisit this? :?

Bump

MikeT - I hate you for posting this a week after I bought a different camcorder!!!:w00t:

It has LP and SP

Thanks for that:thumbsup:

It's crazy how LP isn't shown in the specifications.

Anyway, that has now enticed me enough to grab myself one.

Thanks for sharing this offer. I was in the market for a new Camcorder and the battery and bag offer swung it for me. I went for the DCR-HC47 at £260 as I wanted the extra features and 16:9 recording.
Sent off for the accessories yesterday.

Good news, battery and bag came via post today.
Good quality gear and excellent turn around time.

Hmmm...not seen mine yet. Hope the original documents came back too?

They are getting more stock in and you should get your bag and battery next week. I rang Sony yesterday.

Mine arrived today ;-)

When did you send your receipt off Mike?

Did you get receipt and warranty doc back too?

Amazon have dropped the price of this to £182.00 so if you paid £185.90 you could maybe call amazon and ask for the difference back under their 30 day price policy.

Hi Guys,

I'm interested in getting a camcorder but I have absolutely no idea what to look for in one. So this miniDV camcorder, how does it work? Does the miniDV tape work like CD-RW or CD-R? Can it be used more than once or just once? Also, how do you get the recorded movie to the computer?

I'm just too confused..the more I googled for answer online, the more confused I get. LoL!

Theres some basic info on here
simplydv.co.uk/inf…tml

Minidv tape is a small tape cassette slightly smaller than audio cassette but a little bit thick. Tapes are usually 1 hour long but this can be extended if your camcorder has a long play facility. Tapes can be re-used just like vhs or audio cassettes.

To transfer minidv tape to pc you will need a cable. Some camcorders can connect to a usb port others use an i-link/firewire cable to link to a firewire port on your pc. This is what is used to transfer the movies. You may want to share the movies with friends and family in which case your pc will need to have a DVD writer (CDs aren't big enough - a 5 min movie is about 1gb)

Thanks, gari189. That link answers a lot of questions. So essentially, I could just get 1 miniDV tape, record a movie, transfer it to my computer and reuse it, am I right?

What is the file format of the video? 1GB for 5 mins is very large, is it easy to edit and compress it to .avi format using Dvix or Xvid?

One last question: This one here is about £20 cheaper - amazon.co.uk/Son…MM/
The only difference is the zooming capability. Is it worth paying extra £20 for the extra zoom? I'm looking to use the camcorder for taking videos while travelling...

Thanks and sorry asking so much.

You could get by with one tape but you'll most likely want more especially for going on holiday. Sony Premium MiniDV tapes are generally well recommended.

With video editing software you can easily compress the movies but there may be some quality loss. I've only recently got a camcorder so I haven't explored some of the more advanced stuff but the video software I used to create a normal format DVD was Ulead Studio Plus and it works very well.

A zoom is worth having but whether you go for a 30x or 40x depends what you are using it to film. Just remember that on higher zooms camera shake is more noticeable.....

In the end I got a Panasonic (about a week before this offer) because the Sony's were more expensive ....
