A top little Digital Camcorder from Sony, complete with 2 years John Lewis guarantee.

Decided against going for a HD Camcorder for the moment, and have always had a good experience with Sony equipment so thought this was perfect!

This is 4Gb - a hard disk one is 60Gb

the hard disk is obviously 15 times better - so voted cold

Yes you are correct, for 100 quid or so extra you can indeed get a 60GB Hard Drive and for 150ish extra you can even go all the way up to 80GB..

But if you want less moving parts and less things to go wrong (in theory) then you may want to opt for something with solid state memory.

Not 15x better by a long way - a 16Gb memory Stick can be had for around £40 so you can expand this significantly for less than the £100...

Hot because it's a good price for this model - you need to decide for yourselves whether you'd be better off spending more on a better quality camcorder.

Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick, I was referring to what I thought Peggy Bedford was implying i.e a hard drive based camcorder such as the Sony HDD-SR37 but that does mean spending £100 more..

You're quite right though - you can indeed increase the capacity significantly via a memory stick and there are plenty of deals for those about.

Yeah I agree.

On a similar note an Xbox 360 arcade at £100 is rubbish.

The Xbox 360 with 120Gb Hard drive is 120 times better at £199.

Oh wait, what about the person who is after an arcade? And also has £100 and not £199.

Maybe I should vote hot on this deal instead of cold?

:whistling:

For those who want a bargain there was one of these available at 21:40 on Wednesday at Cribbs for a £129 before cash back. It is a red one that has been returned by a customer but is 'as new' and sold with full 2 year warranty. You'll need to look in the display cabinets to find it, ask a member of staff.

So provided you buy today, 24th and collect a claim form at the same time you can get a nice little video camera for £99 once you get the cheque from Sony. These cameras were selling for £179 back in October so this will be a good deal for somebody.

Peggy Bedford didn't mention a particular brand; just compared the size of 4Gb flash memory to 60gb HDD.

All the top-end cameras JL are selling seem to be flash memory based so flash does not neccessarily means worse than a hard-drive...

I'd like to see how this compared to the HD video on my FZ38 still camera - perhaps you're better off using the cost of a cheap camcorder like this towards a decent digital camera with HD video?

This is still a hot deal though...
