girlfriend bought this yesterday instore. miles better than the 70-80 quid cameras everyones selling at so called half price. was also looking at the samsung st1000(gps bluetooth wifi) but this is prob the better camera without the fancy gadgets.

Thumbs up from me.

Sounds good. If only I didn't get a Nokia N8.

How does this compare to the tx5?

I have the tx5 bought from the hukdeal posted back in late december. Brilliant camera and many rave reviews all over the Internet. A joy to use when i went ski-ing in france. Had a brief look at the reviews for the t99 and the reviews seem pretty poor.

More of a slim 'fashion cam' than a serious photograph machine I think. You aren't going to get top notch snaps with a little lens like that. It has its place in the market but for 130 quid you can do MUCH better.

Same here. That's why I wanted to know

I also have the TX5. Picture quality isn't fantastic – I was pretty disappointed initially, but it's a great camera to use – especially night time stuff where the exmor sensor comes into play (which the t99 is lacking). Video is also great, although a bit overcompressed.

what would you recommend then?

Any idea wich is better TX5 or this one?
any help will be great from the ones that know what they talking about!
Thanks

I’m not getting this — it has a “smashing touchscreen”.

I'd always look at the Panasonic Lumix range first. Fantastic lenses and you'll get a Leica branded one at this price point. The lens is usually the weakest link in most cameras.

I'd also avoid touchscreen: fiddly to use and consumes battery power.

Can't believe people are voting this so hot when even owners are saying picture quality isn't great - what do you buy a camera for after all? The Sony brand still blinds the unwary when they really aren't that special in most cases.

Seems to me the reviews were written when the camera was new out and the price was over £200.for a cheap gadget that fits in a pocket or handbag for normal use its an amazing price. David bailey we are not.

But £130 is no longer "cheap gadget" territory where cameras are concerned. You can get a really decent camera at that level. Like you say, its real advantage is its size in your handbag, but even that will make it fiddly to use as it's too small/thin. Still, it's reached 360 degrees: the people have spoken so what do I know!

At least you're not also stitched up with ridiculous MemoryStick prices as Sony have finally had to add SD card functionality to their cameras.

PS another £5 off if you sign up for Comet Perks at: comet.co.uk/perks

The TX5 seems far better than this.

It has the CMOS sensor that's in the Sony SLR's and it's waterproof and shock proof. Far superior.

No it doesn't, only the Sony NEX cameras have the SLR sensors as those in the compacts are much, much smaller and the technology is only broadly similar to the degree that has no relevance.
