The Sony Ericsson K850i is available for free on the O2 - 200 package, 200 mins cross network calls plus 200 texts, thats enough for me anyway.

It's on a 12 month contract with 8 months Free, thats:
12 x 30 = £360 - £240 - £60 Quidco = £60 or £5 per months for a great phone and lots of free calls and texts.

And you also get 3 months Free insurance, but don't forget to cancel the insurance before the 3 months end or you'll get charged for the next insurance installation.

More cold votes I see.

Anyone care to explain?

Is it because it's not the latest phone?:thinking::thinking:

This sounds way to good to be true.

So all you pay is £60? Any hidden fees etc.?

I dont get it, why would some one pay £60+ for a worse phone like k800/6300?

Thanks & welcome to HUKD Hi-Spy

Can anyone explain?

Because of the redemption, retailers guess not all customers will correctly collect the cashback;-)

Ooohhh, i see, but if you DO collect cashback, £60 is final price?

And how do you actually get the redemption?

yes, its a good deal if you complete the process, normally you have to send in your bills, at certain months.

I've had one of these since last Nov: it's been great, and v reliable.

Is it easy to send the bills back?

They must make it hard for you to do.

Where is the post which explains all these cashback offers?

Yes, but is it easy to do?

Or do they try and scam you by saying 'Sorry we have not yet received your bill' then 'Ow your 60 days have expired'.

Always send a copy of your bill, you have 60 days to play with so you can always send it normal post then if they say they havent got it a couple of weeks later then send it special delivery, some people say they'll give you a fax number to send it to.

Had one since october, and would class myself as a sony fanboy have had (t68, K750i,K800i, K810i) but this phone has annoyed me touch buttons stopped working and had to send to sony for repair (fairly common problem apparently) lost all contacts. Has put me off SE can't wait till i can upgrade :x

Still hot btw just a word of caution

Yeah, loads of people have had problems with this phone - me included... but still an awesome deal!

My daughter has one of these, lucky for her she took out insurance she is on her fifth handset in 12 months !!

The touch controls on the screen are a known fault and the camera is dire in comparison to the k800i, tbh its pretty tacky and not a phone i would consider it has nothing special to offer tbh.

I have played around with the handset and to be honest I dont like the buttons. This a Very HOT deal though given that it's a 5MP phone. Heat & Rep added.

I've had the same problem with my handset too, just been sent off for repair. Might be why it's such a good deal? I'm going to avoid Sony Ericsson next time, despite having several models over the last few years. I feel like the quality has gone really downhill.

One of my friends has this phone. The touch screen went on his though, but because it was on warranty orange replaced it overnight through sending someone to his address with replacement and picking up the broken one.

Awful phone. Sent mine back the next day when I tried one last year. GUI is slow (crawls during mp3 use), keypad feels horrible to use, touch sensitive section of the screen constantly being pressed accidentally, the plastic used for the casing just feels so cheap and it's grimy within seconds of use. And to top it off it just feels way too big and kinda hollow, weird but true.

Was offered this as well in fairness (orange also) but hoped sony could repair my phone with my details on it (no way to remove them from phone without touch buttons not even on PC) didn't work though and phone was resored to factory settings and lost everything....

Think this is what ****** me off as could have just got brand new phone off orange.

Very nice deal, unfortunately this is one of the worst phones I've ever used, I've lost count of how many times it has broken since I got it 6 months ago... however since you can just stick the sim in a decent phone, hot!

I gave up using the k850i and went back to my trusty w810i (using the same contract sim) and I'm happy. Mine is set to expire soon so I might have to go for this - but the k850i phone they supply will be going in the bin... or on ebay

What are phones4u like as a company re: honouring cashbacks. some horror stories recently with firms going bust and leaving customers with bills they couldnt afford

As far as cashback is concerned phone4u is quite reliable.

i have got a question though. i want to buy another deal from them. but on there website it is mentioned that they dont support number porting for 02. i really need to port my old number, is there any way around this?

I'm put off by this offer. Not because the offer isnt good, but because the phone is getting a bad reputation.

I spotted this offer:
phones4u.co.uk/sho…191

free w580i white phone
02, 200 mins, 200 txts
£12 month contract
£1.99/month (after cashback), for 11 months
£30 for the final month.
£60 quidco.

So, if you keep the phone for 12 months and play the game perfectly, you make profit of £8.11.

EDIT: just checked
yourmobilephonereviews.co.uk/son…htm
It would appear that hte w580i is also unreliable with keys that seem to break.

Perhaps phones4u are trying to get rid of the phones with high failure rates?

I've had the phone since las November and its been great. No issues at all. So it's not all doom and gloom. Great deal. Shame I can't change for another few months, Would happily have the phone again. Hot!

I thought they only accepted the original bill.no photo copies!

Dunno what network you were on, but I found debranding this phone made a MASSIVE difference to speed if use etc, without all the Vodafone **** on there..

Blue ring of death is a common fault on these - essentially total failure, which I've had once but reflashing the firmware fixed it - but cost me £7. So yeah, nowhere near a perfect phone but that aside mines still going strong nearly a year later and I like it..

Looks like you can't buy it online at the mo....

What happens if you miss the 1st redemption bill are the rest then void? And so it ends up costing you a whopping £300 plus? :w00t:

I have had one of these since Jan in six months it has been back four times. Thats 8 weeks paying for a phone you can not use. It seldom works without removing the battery to free the the locked screen. I think it has been swapped twice. Currently have a claim in with O2 to change it for anything that works.
Cold and best avoided.

phones 4 u are easily the best cashback company to deal with, and ive used a few of them, i am tempted to upgrade from my w810i... think i'll wait till its a bit cheaper.

No, you usually just lose that claim. You receive a cheque for each bill they receive, so as long as you sent your others on time you would get the rest of the cashback.

Anyone going for this deal, I remember seeing a spreadsheet somewhere (money saving expert?) that you could fill in when you start the contract as a reminder of which bills you need to send off to get your cashback. Good idea as its easy to forget after 9months or so. I've always sent my bills registered post as well.......only costs a little extra & you know they received it on time.

Wow phones4u are a decent cashback company in that case. All the cashback claims Ive been involved with require you not to miss a single claim. The moment you forget to send in a bill, your cashback, from that point onwards, is gone.

Good idea, though some companies are so unscrupulous that they will deny receiving the bill, even though you sent it recorded/special delivery. And because some will insist on sending the original bill, you cant resend it. They are counting on this to get out of paying you the money.

PS. just a reminder, there is no such thing as registered post. It doesnt exist and hasnt existed for at least 20 yrs. There is your 'Special Delivery' (and variants) and 'Recorded/Signed for...' I'm not sure why people still use the term "Registered' anymore.

Bought a k850i on ebay for £130 about a month ago, first time it broke because I had too many messages giving me an "operation failed" error everytime I went into the menu. Luckily a factory reset managed to fix it.... 3 weeks later the middle touch button is constantly being activated by itself and can't be fixed Tis ok if you have warranty I suppose but shouldn't break so regularly really..... wouldn't recommend it!

If this phone is so unreliable there is no way this can be a hot deal.
It doesn't matter how cheap something is, if it doesn't work it is worth nothing.

So do you pay £30 a month but you get that back when you send in your bills? or do you pay nothing for the first 8 months as long as you send in the bills?

By redemption which means you pay the £30 each month then on the relevent months you get cashback provided you have sent your bills on time.

I have this phone and it hasn't broken yet( 4 months). However I do find the keypad and touchscreen buttons fiddly. It would seem SE have realised the k850i is a bit rubbish, the C902 is the newer 5 Megapixel cybershot alternative from SE. Looks much better.
