i am not going to vote on this one.

but i have a p990i and have nothing but problems with it.

the phone applciations stops working, but you dont know about it until you try and make a call.

so you can go all days, thinking noone has texted you or called you, but in fact your phone applicaiton has crashed, you need to pull the battery out and restart it all for it to work (for me about once every other week)

and yes i got the lastest firmware, and nothing installed to it,

nothing but trouble.

Cheers!

If you reflash with the vanilla Sony firmware rather than the Orange branded rubbish it helps.
Bear in mind its an old model and by today's standards it's HUGE.
I got one at the start of the year (cos I'd always wanted one) and after 4 days sent it back. I loved the (Sony) op system but it was just far too big, I usually keep my phone in my shirt pocket, no chance with this.
Also the wifi can sometime be a right pain to get logged on, took me half an hour to get it to connect to my home wifi network !

To anyone who gets this make sure you download "Swiss Manager" it's freeware and really helps the phone run as it should. Not sure of a site but i'm sure google will have the answer.

This may well help the first poster on this who comments they have had nothing but problems.

I've had this phone since it was released and still use it now, I run Tomtom v6 on it and it works great. (with bluetooth GPS).

Swiss Manager Freeware helps the user free up some of the RAM which is needed to keep the phone running.

Hope this is of some help.

Its a nice phone but not the most stable.
I got rid of the Orange firmware for the latest which improved things, but still not great.
Does what the wife needs it to do and shes happy with it.
Thanks gizmo_gadgets, will try Swiss Manager tonight.

Debrand it for free here.

Hello

yes i have the lastest (world1) firmware on it, and it is still very poop.

that swiss manager program, will casue issues in the lastest firmware of the the phone, it worked good with the old firmwares, but as SE fixed the issues, and sorted out problems, the swiss manager started to casue issues!

i only use the phone as a standby one (using at the mo, as my main phone is getting fixed)

i dont know why i keep the thing for, as it is driving me nuts, crashing all the time

Andy

Just a warning but i'm currently having the most attrocious problems with Orange accessories, it's actually a sub contracted company called Dextra (something)

I bought a phone and it came with a free second phone. I've never received the 2nd phone i've sent multiple emails (none have had a reply) i've called about 15 times, sometimes you get someone they need to transfer to another department....who aren't there, sometimes it just rings for about 30 minutes before cutting off, not once have i been able to speak to a manager. I called the number at 16:45 one day and it said sorry our opening hours are 10:00-18:00!!! Worst experience ever i've formally complained to Orange because of it

The problems with this phone is the whole reason I bypassed it. The P910i was sublime, the P990i was a major step backwards, a far from thought out phone i'm afraid. You have to feel for the poor sods that paid £900 for it at release, a year later Sony discontinuing support on it leaving it's buyers with a rather expensive doorstop :x
There are better phones out there, even at an ultra cheap £90.

Avoid at all costs. Had one of these when it came into market in 2006. had nothing but problems no matter what firmware or swiss manager you use. and reminds you of a brick in silver color.
the only good news is it has got wifi in it. but wifi nowadays is not a great thing.
phone freezes and friends would just hit your voice mail but nothing.

I have - and still use - the P910i. It is a fabulous phone despite its relatively large size. It does most of the things that I need.
I was never been tempted to move up to the P990i after all the bad comments I read on the device.
There are better phones out there.

Probably the worst phone I have ever had.
Have to vote cold on this one. Do yourself a favour and buy something else.
