Full credit should go to member 'tdk2bu' who originally mentioned this possible deal in the thread about the White Xperia Play at Phones4U - if Mods feel this is a duplicate feel free to expire or amalgamate with other thread.

Confirmed this deal was 'live' at Phones4U store at Glasgow Fort - price labels clearly stated that for existing Orange and T-Mobile PAYG customers, the price was £129.95 with no top-up required. Sales Assistant confirmed phone would come with no network branding and would be unlocked.

He also explained (which was backed up by the Point Of Sale literature) that it included 10 free games (6 pre-installed and 4 downloadable - not sure what the games were).

He seemed a bit vague as to what constitutes an 'existing' Orange or T-Mobile PAYG customer and only stated that the sim had to be active and have credit remaining on it - I would imagine there would be a minimum amount of time that the sim card had been used for but just speculating on this - he did mention it is very simple to establish whether your sim is eligible for the upgrade price of £129.95 (just provide your sim card or mobile number if you don't have sim with you or you can even call your local store and enquire about the Upgrade deal on the Xperia Play PAYG and they enter the number into their computer and get an instant answer whether it is eligible or not.)

I fully appreciate this deal might be limited as it only benefits existing Orange and T-Mobile PAYG customers but thought it worth posting anyway.

The store in Glasgow Fort had 1 in stock and were expecting deliveries on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of next week. They only had the Black model available and no mention of the white ones anywhere and didn't look like they even stocked them. Their telephone number is 0141 773 2697 if anyone wishes to call and confirm deal and to check if their Sim is eligible for Upgrade at the £129.95 price - you can check the Phones4U website and get the phone number for your local store.

Hope it helps some.

UPDATE - ALSO WORKS WITH O2 AND VODAFONE UPGRADES - O2 PRICE IS £129.95 AND VODAFONE IS £139.95.

Hope it helps.http://androidflip.com/unbrick-xperia-play-flashtool-step-step-guide/How did you brick it using titanium backup? Any steps we should avoid? Did you unlock your bootloader or just root? Is there any specific advantage to unlocking the bootloader as custom roms don't work with all phones features? Is there any harm adding the aditional screen protector included? Not sure if mine came pre installed?Cheers for your help.

I'm sure i froze system applications, like the Sony Ericsson Home, thinking it would be fine since i used another loader.
Thanks for the link. I managed to revive the phone using WotanServer.
Thanks

Depends if you want prefer to play games or message ??
been using my xperia play for a couple of weeks now and absolutely love it.

it's scandalous how much Apple charge for iPhones (I've got a 3g and a 4) when Android on the xperia play is a delight to use.
Just set up various emulators. Can't believe how well they run. Shame I can't map the N64oid controls properly though
Since the phone is already unlocked , do we still need to get the phone rooted? What are the pros?
Any good and safe links, please. TIA
Rooting this phone only takes a minute.
With a rooted phone you have more control over it.
Example, the XPlay has small internal memory, so you can use a program to remove the apps you would never use, but only when its rooted.
Another example. I managed to underclock my cpu at idle times so now my battery lasts a fair bit more.
3 questions

How do you root it/make it run faster
What's the best case for it
How do you get your 6 free downloads

Cheers

PS I've just connected my play to my pc for the first time and I notice that it connects in Media Transfer Mode and not Mass Storage although there is the option to switch between the two. Whats the difference? Also what is the PC Companion Software?

Cheers

Media Transfer Mode keep the SD and working for the phone, also allowing the PC/Device to use it too. When using ADB, you use this.
Mass Storage will unmount your SD from the phone, and let the PC/Device have full access, for using it on your TV or Stereo, something like that.

OKAY! When my second Play was faulty I took it with me to work to get it changed, but they were out of stock. I left the box in my locker and when I got home realised this included the charger. I began using the charger which came with my Moto Defy until I could get the Xperia charger back and... the problems stopped!

(The problems had been with the screen. It would jitter/jump around, press stuff on its own, delete them. Touchscreen tests show dots where my fingers aren't and dots which appear in other places when I press.)

Just to test I began using the older charger again and after one recharge the problems arose again!

My question is this. Should I still get it exchanged? Might the phone have been permanently damaged? I should at least get a replacement charger. I can easily replicate the problems to show them. They have apparently already shipped in a replacement from another store. I haven't got much to back up as I was planning to get it exchanged the first day I used it and it was weird.

Thanks techy people. =]
Surely coincidence it stopped misbehaving with a different charger?!

I'd get it changed

Perhaps I explained badly.
I first used the boxed Xperia charger = phone was dodgy
While my Xperia charger was in my locker I used my Motorola charger = phone seemed normal
Once I got my Xperia charger back out my locker I began using it again = dodgy again though not quite as bad (because some of the Moto 'charge' was still left I think).
So to me this seems a lot more than coincidence. But you are still right. I think it is still best to have it exchanged even though it will be hard for them to find me a Play and takes about an hour to sort everything (based on last time). Am also slightly paranoid I'll get another one which has something dodgy about it, even though it is unlikely, just because I've been so unlucky with them!

I've went back to the Xperia charger partly because it's the 'correct' one but mostly as a test to see if the charger was the issue, and also partly because I can't exchange my phone if it appears to be working correctly. I probably will try and exchange it in case it was damaged in the long run, idk how this stuff works. I didn't have time to go back to the Xperia charger totally because I am going away for the weekend and want a usable phone. Hopefully they have the Xperia delivered for me by the time I return.

My Mum got her's too

What's that then £119.95 for this phone? and I adore it

Plus, everyone I show it to is in awe but no-one believes me when I tell them the cost
They gave me £10 credit too for christmas ;)8)

May I ask what the faults are you have had with both handsets. Thanks

First had a dodgy volume rocker, second had a screen which jumped about an clicked without me and basically just registered being touched when it was on the desk etc. After about a month and traipsing to other stores I finally got a replacement though.

edit: not through new stock, through finally finding a store with a phone in it
the second fault was probably caused by the stock charger as the problems reduced with another charger I used, still decided to exchange to be safe though

i just hav this phone yesterday from phone 4u at durham , white,179.90, any1 have problem with this phone so far?
Geezo kickbanana, you caught on late lol... anyway, had it since this off was running and no problems at all. Great phone, speedy to move between apps/web browsing, etc... not bad for the £129 most of us paid...
What is it 3-4 months? since I got this deal with the £10 PAYG credit included

I cannot believe how long the battery lasts

I browse a lot, play some PS games, watch Sky Go, talk a lot, take photos, listen to music and use some apps and this baby lasts 3 days

I'm always very fussy but I adore this phone
