Full credit should go to member 'tdk2bu' who originally mentioned this possible deal in the thread about the White Xperia Play at Phones4U - if Mods feel this is a duplicate feel free to expire or amalgamate with other thread.

Confirmed this deal was 'live' at Phones4U store at Glasgow Fort - price labels clearly stated that for existing Orange and T-Mobile PAYG customers, the price was £129.95 with no top-up required. Sales Assistant confirmed phone would come with no network branding and would be unlocked.

He also explained (which was backed up by the Point Of Sale literature) that it included 10 free games (6 pre-installed and 4 downloadable - not sure what the games were).

He seemed a bit vague as to what constitutes an 'existing' Orange or T-Mobile PAYG customer and only stated that the sim had to be active and have credit remaining on it - I would imagine there would be a minimum amount of time that the sim card had been used for but just speculating on this - he did mention it is very simple to establish whether your sim is eligible for the upgrade price of £129.95 (just provide your sim card or mobile number if you don't have sim with you or you can even call your local store and enquire about the Upgrade deal on the Xperia Play PAYG and they enter the number into their computer and get an instant answer whether it is eligible or not.)

I fully appreciate this deal might be limited as it only benefits existing Orange and T-Mobile PAYG customers but thought it worth posting anyway.

The store in Glasgow Fort had 1 in stock and were expecting deliveries on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of next week. They only had the Black model available and no mention of the white ones anywhere and didn't look like they even stocked them. Their telephone number is 0141 773 2697 if anyone wishes to call and confirm deal and to check if their Sim is eligible for Upgrade at the £129.95 price - you can check the Phones4U website and get the phone number for your local store.

Hope it helps some.

UPDATE - ALSO WORKS WITH O2 AND VODAFONE UPGRADES - O2 PRICE IS £129.95 AND VODAFONE IS £139.95.

Great price for a great little gaming phone.
Cheers mate - good option for being able to purchase instore rather than waiting on a delivery.
would you still be able to get the £10 free top up, free wi-fi free games with this price
Damn I was just about to buy the Xperia mini pro from O2 (£129.00) would this be a better option? Bare in mind though its for the Mrs who's not bothered about playing games lol

Assuming your on Orange and T-Mobile then probably yes, as it would be pre-unlocked (based on the OP's notes) but also you wouldn't have to worry about any networking branding, as you would get with the O2 handset - that's just my tuppence worth!
Thanks Scotty... good point mate, I was planning on putting my O2 contract sim in the mini pro and asking O2 to unlock it. Is the play far more technically superior than the mini pro? or is just the keyboard v gamepad?
Or go and get a San Franciso 2 with free Xmas box!
Fabulous price!!!
Amazing price. I felt like I'd robbed Chitter Chatter at £149, so this is a no-brainer.
is this offer store spacific? I went in to the castleford store today and it was £149.99 plus £10.00 credit you have to buy but they were out of stock. They guy said they came unlocked though. Been wanting one for my other half for christmas and tried to buy one from dial a fone but had lots of problems so i'll be checking when they have the delivery tomorrow,
Would a T-mobile PAYG phone work with a T-mobile contract sim?

Sorry, I hit cold by mistake, HUKD noob! Great phone spec wise, might go for this over the Monte Carlo as the build quality should be better.

Thanks for posting the pic to show it is available at other stores - stupidly forgot to take a pic myself when in the Glasgow Fort store.
I wonder if I could wangle this with my rarely used San Fran Orange PAYG sim from October 2010. Only used it for Orange Wednesdays and a few odd texts in a back up phone.
Where are the extra downloadable games ;From which website ?

Oh you got me there - I haven't physically tried either of them yet (I'm still trying to figure out which handset to buy! lol) but looking at the tech specs via GSMArena the PLAY handset looks a lot better but that's me looking at the screen size & the bundled battery.

If I were you I would strongly recommend you check out the comparison link via GSMArena (has the tech specs for both Sony handsets side-by-side, so you can see what the differences are) - in addition to that I can't remember if both of them have been flagged as being upgradeable to Android Ice Cream by Sony, so that's something else you'll want to consider (for future proofing your handset).

I hope I've helped you out a bit as unfortunately Android isn't quite my area.

nargh what the heck this phone has dropped price again !

bought mine £150 and i love it HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT
Be careful of the upgrade criteria, I'm pretty sure that mandatory prerequisites are that you must have spent £10,000 in PAYG credit in the past two years and must also have slept with the CEO of the respective company.

Is it still within the returns and refund period? Assume you've purchased from Phones4U or Dial-A-Phone?

In theory yes BUT your brother would probably have to come with you to get this done I think - is he on PAYG or a Contract with Orange, as that will have a bearing on the overall process (the handset would have to go under his name though I think).

Contract owners may not get the upgrade but I don't know for sure what the Phones4U T&Cs are (you'll need to check it out further).

Can you cancel it, get the refund and buy it instead from Phones4U?

I don't see anything that specifically states it has to be done via a Phones4U purchase (only thing is the links are to their website) - in theory it should work but as my old American colleagues used to say "Trust But Verify"!
@ scotty Seems like alot of aggro, maybe if I call and say I'll be sending it back as the price has changed they might refund the difference rather then take the phone back. Finger crossed!

No probs and good luck with that.

You could pop into a store (once stock is in) and try it to see what it's like first - if you like it you could sell off the OSF to generate funds towards purchasing the Play.

Here's a link to a tech spec comparison of both handsets (Play & OSF) via GSMArena - at least you'll be able to see what the key differences are between the two of them, as it might help in your decision making process.

Would it still activate though? I thought with Orange there was a cut-off period if a PAYG SIM wasn't activated.

That's exactly what I was trying to do with O2 but whenever I go through O2 using Quidco or TCB, my order gets rejected at the last minute and I refuse to not take cashback on principle.

Technically, the phones are very similar - same CPU, same GPU, same OS and skin, but the Play has a very nice, large display vs. the Mini Pro with the benefit of the keyboard but a low-res screen. Having used one at a CeX (a Mini Pro), I'm staying put with my Play which is a brilliant phone for the money and I was using an iPhone 4 prior to this.

If you are buying a Play, I highly recommend downloading Swype as the onscreen keyboard is awful and almost caused me to sell the phone.
