im very tempted here, id like a new phone as my one x + is about 3 years old now and a change would be nice, i mainly use a phone for the odd call, txting and camera so the contract would be ideal and save me shelling out 429£ odd in one go + £5 sim only that i have now, choices choices
ugly phone, very expensive

or the beerholder where this phone might come into its own
Tempting but I. Terms of what it offers over the Z3c I'll be holding out on the z3c price drop and getting.one of those.
The Z5 and z5c has a much better camera than the z3 series
i dont get this site, latest phones that cost £900+ on contract get heat yet this is on minus, i really think some people on here cant do the maths, probably the same people who think paying sky £100 per month is cheap yet if they asked for £1200 upfront per year they'd say its robbery

More expensive deals for this phone have been voted hot, I don't get it either.
Thanks guys... yeah I got this deal... Currently I am on sim only deal paying about £11 a month ( I have to be on EE because of my local area coverage)...... But when I took off my current monthly outgoing from the 19.99 for this and added the phone cost... it worked out about 291.4 for the phone

hers my calculations

273.36 current monthly over 2 years
479.76 new monthly over 2 years
SO

+206.4 balance after extra monthly cost added
+125 cost of phone
-20 voucher code
-20 quidco
291.4 total cost of phone upgrade. (bearing in mind I am now tied to a two year contract)

I think this is the best value I have found on the z5 compact.

how do you find the phone, any overheating issues yet? what is it like compared to what you had before?
It get's delivered tomorrow.. A little worried about the over heating... however the only area I should be pushing the phone is when making videos... so hopefully won't be too much of an issue.

Won't be upgrading to the z5 from the z3 but this post deserves more … Won't be upgrading to the z5 from the z3 but this post deserves more heat. Except the maths is off. £125 upfront plus 19.99 * 24 = 479.76 + 125 = 604.76, excluding the "possible" quidco. always quote the non cashback price in the title. Still at just a shade over 600 it's not bad on contract if you can afford the steeper up front cost.

My title was terrible... the missus was rushing me :(... I have fixed the title.... The price is correct because of the £20 voucher code... the possible quidco was not included in the total price... that could bring it down to 564.76

Oh and my cashback tracked straight away.
Do you think I should post this again but with a better title and more detailed description... Or is that something frowned upon on here?

Thanks
id leave it m8, you get no thanks here either way lol
if you dont mind, please keep us posted how it goes as i really think this is the phone for me, i just cant decide on a one off payment or 24 month contract, ive got used to my sim only payments now
Enjoying the phone.. very compact... great photos...finger print button works great.
Missing the windows phone GUI.... quite like just having a list with alphabetic search feature.. which I hear is coming to marshmallow.. so just a case of waiting for that .
Other than that very please... battery life is good too...
Not the most stunning looking phone and of course small screen
But if those features are not important I think its a good choice.
Ok.. changed my mind... The phone is ok... however I have one major complaint... the photos in medium/low light... in fact all the photos have terrible detail once viewed on my pc.... It seems to be something to do with how sony post process the images and nothing to do with the sensor.

I just realised that mobiles.co.uk wont let you return if you have used the phone even within 14 days! surely they cant do this!
oh dear, sorry to hear about this, it was the camera that really stood out for me, deffo no a setting that needs tweaking or anything? id check some forums to be sure
according to stuff its really only an 8 megapixel camera with some clever stuff going on, they arent that impressed with the camera so at this price i think ill wait, move along now this isnt the phone your looking for

Nope, the default setting is 8mp pictures, it has a 23mp camera.

Plus I'd rather trust dxomark when it comes to photography than stuff.

DXOmark rate the camera highly but I think that's based off the sensor itself which is amazing. What really turns this into a very bog standard camera is Sony's post processing algorithms/software. Its just seriously poor when compared to LG, Samsung and Apple. Having had the Z3 compact, I just can't recommend the Compact series. Its a great idea let down by Sony, their software, lack of updates and shoddy build quality (loads of people including myself have had complaints of the glass backs cracking and flaps becoming very loose after usage). From what I've read about the Z5, its not any better in correcting those weaknesses. The screen is very standard and really doesn't stand up well compared to Samsung and Apple and even the Nokia Lumia 930.

You see, the raw 23-megapixel images look quite scratchy and fizzy down … You see, the raw 23-megapixel images look quite scratchy and fizzy down at pixel level. The Sony Xperia Z5 really shoots 8-megapixel photos as standard because it lets the image processor use oversampling to cut down on image noise.Read more at http://www.stuff.tv/sony/xperia-z5/review#I3PfbhyA1zU4gzPF.99

whilst im not sure what all this means it does suggest that its not as it would seem and at least for anyone that wanted this, like i did, for the camera to do more research. alexchegwin who has one is a real user and their not impressed either, shame

"shoots 8-megapixel photos as standard" as I said, the standard setting is 8mp however the camera can shoot 23mp photos

Dxomark ranked the camera on the whole package, Sony push regular updates and the screen has plenty of punch due to the triluminos/bravia technology.

The Compact range is great for people who want a high spec phone which is easy to handle. This review sums it up nicely

That's your opinion. I've had Sony's previous phone and support has been iffy to say the least. All sim carrier free as well. Screen might have plenty of punch but is no where compared to the top end when it comes to viewing in broad daylight. My mistake, dxomark has only rated the bigger brother Z5. There may well be some differences between the two.
The plot thickens... since it appears some post processing is going on a friend suggested using a camera app which allows you to adjust the compression.

I really like using the camera FX android app so thought I would give it a go.

When I opened the app.. the only camera option was 8mp. The pictures where crisp and did't have the issues that the standard camera app had... However I could not select 23mp.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Thanks
I have sent sony an email to find out what is going on with the camera. Hopefully they will have a good explanation.
Ok... looks like the 8mp camera is a load of rubbish... additionaly more accurate testing with my phones has shown the Z5 to be very good indeed compared to my old nokia 920

In general the colours and vibrance of photos are huge improvement on my nokia 920
The video is much better even though it is using digitl OIS instead of optical OIS
In medium/low light conditions it appears as good as my 920 and better when you use the manual mode.
In general I am in fact now happy with my Z5 compact
Looking forward to the marshmallow update to get the alphabetic browsing of apps.

Battery life is great... I get close to two days life.
Alex, did you have to make some changes to settings then to get the best out of it?
Just switched to manual and took a picture.. didn't alter any settings.. but seems to improve detail slightly in low light.
I am hoping that in the future once it is supported by third party camera apps fully... I will be able to turn the post processing off completely and take a raw photo with no compression... Which may give me more detail.

I think the default settings are good all round settings.... for most people will be perfect.

ordered one myself now
