Who uses camcorders these days
This was a cool camera back when it launched in 2014, but these days 4K recording has found its way into every enthusiast camera and this thing just doesn't stand up to the competition anymore. For example the Panasonic FZ2000 is a few hundred pounds cheaper and has the same 1" sensor size and 20MP resolution, a larger zoom range (20x vs 12x) with the same maximum aperture range (2.8-4.5), a broader range of frame rate options up to 120fps at 1080p, and substantially better stills performance. And if you don't need the enormous zoom range then you could get something from one of the mirrorless manufacturers that will be even better for both video and stills and have the flexibility of interchangeable lenses.

Prices do reduce, but there will always be expensive things too. This camera used to be £2000, and now that it's £1100 there will be another camcorder introduced taking up that same £2000 space.

OMG my last Sony camcorder was about £150 & was HD, granted it was a few years ago but I'm really shock at this price and now you tell me it used to be double.......I have a Panasonic TZ camera that cost about £200 & takes excellent films and photos . Having said that the latest version is double that and has less functionality......

Don't get me wrong, a £100 camera is going to be fine for the majority of people and do everything that they need it to do. More expensive cameras will just do that better, or do more things that the average user would never even think about nevermind be something they actually wanted to do. For example a professional or enthusiast videographer is going to want a large sensor camera do get shallow depth of field, and have control over the frame rate and bit rate their footage is recorded at to ensure it comes out matching their vision. It's all about identifying your needs and buying the right camera for you, just as it is with cars or washing machines or any other piece of gadgetry.
