Update: Action cam received, see post #6 for details

I have been researching what camera to get for my upcoming holiday and I ummed and arred a lot before finally pulling the trigger on this deal.

The X1000V is rightly compared to the GoPro Hero 4 Black, but this camera is available in the UK/EU for quite substantially less money. There is a lot more support for the GoPro, and the Sony lacks some features like control of shutter speed but I think given the price difference in the UK/EU the sony comes out on top.

This deal also comes with V2 of the live-view remote, which is essential if the camera is mounted on your helmet and you want to be able to fully control it without getting out your phone or prodding around at your noggin.

There have been some absolutely stonking deals on this camera that didn't get that hot, but this is a great price for this kit. You will be paying £340 anywhere in the UK so your saving at nearly £100 ordering from Amazon ES, the camera without the live-view remote costs more so its either a mis-price or an offer.

If you are diving you will want to invest in a 'Dive Door' which improves the waterproof depth to 60m and majorly reduces blurring cause by the regular case front, this is also cheaper on Amazon ES at the moment:

*Edit- A word of warning about this dive door, the one shipped to me from Amazon Spain was the older type and the raised brackets either side of the lens show up in full frame recording as explained here: hiresvdo.com/blo…0v/
As such it may be worth ordering the Dive Door for a couple of quid more in the UK so you can send it back if its like this. I have contacted Sony directly to ask them to replace it.*

Edit:
In the manual on the sony site there are instructions to find your way to the language settings.

And for once the android app is also worth using and not a faff.Great camera by the way. Make sure you get a class U3 memory card so to get highest resolution at greatest data rate. I can recommend Kingston and have had problems with san disk.Don't bother taking stills as the resolution is low just get the photos you want from the 4k video.

Hi, I'm getting all confused looking at memory cards for this - any recommendations? Cheers

Buy Samsung, they are one of the only memory cards I trust to supply sustained R/W speeds with no 'blips'. Other card manufacturers advertise their mac R/W speed as per spec, but drop outs caused by the controller can mean dropped frames during recording. I work with SSD's and memory cards every day and I am totally sold on Samsung as a brand, the only one that has just worked day in day out (other than the professional camera SSD's that costs 2k+)

Theis one: amazon.co.uk/Sam…1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457530391&sr=8-2&keywords=samsung+u3+64gb+micro+sd

Edit: Another good choice is the card Sony themselves recommend (obviously their own) but it still doesn't compare to the Samsungs 90MBps write flashmemo.co.uk/son…HAQ

I received my camera today. No need to change the language as it is English by default, as is all the packaging.

I'm not sure how the wristband connects to the camera, but if you have ever experienced wifi latency on a GoPro to your phone then the live-view remote is going to blow you mind (I think facebook clickbait is rubbing off on me). The latency is half a second or under, barely noticeable.

Edit: I have experimented a bit with the dive door and its not that bad, the effect is pronounced in bright room lights and I dont have the clear black marks as in the above link. It would likely be had to spot in the dispersed light you get under water.
