I can't believe how much video cameras have dropped in price... a few years ago I paid a 4 figure price for a much lesser version than this! RRP £359 at launch, 6 months ago in Currys it was £186, after price checking in my opinion it's definitely a BARGAIN price now @ £120 (inc delivery) for a good brand with seemingly very positive reviews (8.4/ 10 from Reevoo and 4/5 from Amazon)! Nectar points too ;-)

Note: this is an eBay DAILY DEAL, so you have less than 24 hours to get at this price!

lowest price I can find!

Then why not share that price? (_;)

Wow! Good Spot! Just ordered one, thanks OP

Reviews say it uses low end Standard Definition components and upscales to record in high def.

Cnet review says it all: "...don't buy the Sony Handycam HDR-CX190 thinking that you're getting a great bargain on a real HD camcorder.."

Nevertheless well rated by most users and for £120, how can we complain... and will produce far better results than virtually any mobile phone on the market!

I would have agreed if I would have paid the price at the time of the review... for £120, show me something better (_;)

yes well done sharing mate

Can't you put the price in the thread title, for us text-only users (and as per the posting rules)?

Good man. It won't show if you don't put it in

Hmm... tempted. We have a baby on the way and have said to myself we need something by the time he/she comes (July). Buy, or hold??

Ooh... you get one chance to get those shots! So you should get it now, practice and make perfect or forever accept the wrath of your other half when it goes wrong oO Understanding where you're coming from, this model has was superseded by the CX220 at the beginning of the year and will undoubtedly drop in price by July, however, unlikely to the level of this offer (perhaps this time next year)... so don't risk fluffing those movies (_;)

Ditto, next to no stock (in the Midlands at least) and not available to order over the net.

Got this before christmas took it back as quality was less than my galaxy note phone and my partners galaxy s2, so if you a decent phone dont bother unless you need a big zoom.

Possibly a dodgy one as reviews in the main are very good (and there are hundreds that testify this)!

CNET review:
"Stills look pretty bad -- soft and overprocessed. Many camera phones are better. (Unsurprising given that Sony's "5.3-megapixel" photos are actually 1.3-megapixel photos bloated up for specsmanship.) Part of the problem is that you can't pick a focus area, at least on the CX190. You just have to point and pray. The CX200 and CX210 both have spot focus and exposure via the touch screen."

I don't think there's any reason to suggest this'll perform better than a camera phone. The technology is barely better than a cameraphone, and you lose out on all of the sharing possibilities they offer (without going to the faff of uploading the video to a computer etc).
Also, bear in mind that this seems to record in AVCHD format --- which is a pain to work with. At least cameraphone's tend to record in .mpg.
One other thing - the other poster mentioned using a Galaxy Note as their video recorder. Learn how to use it as a video recording platform, then combine it with Samsung's free Video Editor, and you have a pretty good video platform.
If you really need a good videocamera, spend the money. This one really doesn't look to be much good at all.

If you want to know what can be achieved on a camera phone, look here;

Got this camera. Easy to use. Excellent battery life but will agree its a pain to converting to .mpg. Excellent price, great for holidays and is really compact and lightweight. Worth £120 :-)

I'm sure this will be fine for using indoor for close up shots and in any case I'm sure you won't spend that much time filming as the mother in law is sure to tell you off and tell you to pull your finger out !

However she will also want a copy of the video !

Really tempted by this, would be buying as a first / entry-level camcorder, but im a little put off by some of the negative views.
Does anyone have any other recommendations for something similar if i wanted to spend upto about £150ish?

Think I'm going to go for it. It's £120 and mostly rated very highly. Yes there will be better cameras out there, but £120 too easily becomes £200+ and before you know it you've spent double on something potentially slightly better. Been there too many times before.

I bought number 47. :o)

Possible option - Toshiba Camileo x400. Backside illuminated CMOS sensor ... true Full HD (5m/pixel sensor). External microphone socket (very unusual at this price point) & touchscreen...

avforums.com/for…tml

Some reasonable prices on Ebay of around £90 or so.
ebay.co.uk/sch…400

The trick is to check on Youtube....and see how the various camcorders perform.

*Edit - it also records in mp4, rather than AVCHD. So in theory, it'll be easier to edit the videos. At least in terms of what is inside, this should perform pretty well...and in theory, better than the Sony one in this listing.

Thanks for the response. Will have a look at the Toshiba one. Thanks,

I dont see the point of buying one of these if they dont have a built in Hard drive - HD uses up a lot of GB, and you cant be fussing with memory cards!

131 left out of 200+ from this morning & nearly 450 watchers (since when does eBay allow us to see this info?)... I'd say people definitely think it's a great deal but sitting on the fence oO... in all honesty, at the price & with next to no moving parts it should be a great camera to just sling in the backpack when out & about without worrying about scratching it, after all it's bargain... in my humble opinion

You would rather have a mechanical hard drive in your camcorder...as opposed to a solid state SD card? Also, 64GB SD cards only cost £40!!

Yes. I bought something similar to this & returned it, instead going for one with a Hard Drive - personal preference I guess

Reserved one of the jvc ones posted above. any body know how it compares to this Sony?

Each to their own I guess. I personally don't see any benefit in a hard drive camcorder. If the USB port gets damaged on the camcorder, or your hard drive fails (it is mechanical after all), how do you get at the data? At least if an SD card fails, you just pop in another one.
SD cards are also waterproof, shockproof etc ... takes the concern out of owning a camcorder.

Well pleased with this. Granted I've not viewed playback on the bigscreen yet, but overall very good for the money so far!
