Update: Comet deal as posted is over - see post 11 for next best deal at Amazon.

Currently £320.94 at Comet (Cheapest price anywhere). Use code 5OFF to reduce price to £304.89. Use the free delivery option (or collect instore). Go through Quidco - tracks at £9.15.

Sony are offering a £50 cashback on this handycam at the moment. I phoned them today - this is valid on web orders. Cashback form download link on the Comet page.

This brings the Camcorder down to £254.89 (minus the Quidco cashback of £9.15 which gives you a final price of £245.74!).

I know the very similar spec Panny SD60 pips this slightly in the reviews, but at this price the Sony is terrific value - I've obviously ordered one.

Also this is the first batch of Sony's to be SD card compatible - a major plus in my opinion.

The 5OFF code EXPIRES TODAY - AUG 3rd, so you need to act quickly to get this price.

Not a bad deal if you're after a camcorder.

I'm just waiting for a time when you could make longer running HD movies on pos camera's. Zoom is getting better too. So only a matter of time before camcorders become redundant.

£5 off £320.94 is not £304.89.

Am I missing something?

Edit, yes its 5% off.

You could always sell your 'movies' ! (_;)

VERY VERY tempted. Been waiting for a decent camera to come along, bought a flip but that was crap.
The only thing putting me off is the lack of viewfinder, I love a viewfinder, am I living in the past?
Could the OP maybe confirm when they have the camera if it's possible to record with the screen closed?

It's a camcorder NOT a camera.

Won't get mine till Monday 'cause I used the cheapskate free delivery option. Yes - looks like viewfinders are being phased out, just the high end models using them. I also find a viewfinder preferable for discreet filming (i.e. gigs).

Doubt VERY much if you can record with the LCD closed - after all, how would you know what you're filming? The manual is downloadable from the below link if you want to check though.

Cheers, It doesn't state recording with the screen closed. I do believe though that you can turn the screen 180 degrees and put it back in its closed position and it will still record, this will help.
i like to be as unobtrusive as possible when filming as people dont get camera scared and you end up with better usable footage (I find).
Just weighing up if I can afford this. Its a hot deal in any case, Thanks to the OP.

OK - the 5% off (5OFF) code has expired now. However:

If anyone's still interested in this Camcorder the best deal is now at Amazon where the price dropped today from £339 to £319.30. The Sony £50 cashback still applies. Also exclusive to purchases from Amazon, Sony are offering a free 3 year guarantee on this model. See the promotion links on this page:
