A great price for this soundbar, cheapest I've seen new!

*one day deal!*

I bought this from Sainsburys for £100 about 6 months ago and have to say its fantastic for the price. Never going to be a true surround sound experience but its good at what it does. Not Bluetooth like some of the newer/expensive models but the sound is crisp using a toslink cable and the sub packs some oommf. Hexagonal design looks stylish too imo. The remote operates key functions of my Sony tv too meaning I don't need the tv remote for general day to day viewing.

Can recommend for under £80 delivered!

Hot from me...

No its very basic feature wise. From memory, the little LED's on the front (which indicate connection type) blink in certain combinations to let you know when you reach the volume/bass limits etc. Since I did the initial setup to get the levels right for my room, I only really use the volume button now and even then its only a tweak here and there depending on what I'm watching (movies/sports/xbox/general)

Bargain for a Sony soundbar. I have one of these and I must admit its much better than the cheap supermarket brands for only £20 more. Would recommend to anyone who wants a good quality soundbar!

I'm tempted at this price

I`m tempted too...but if only it had bluetooth connectivity

If you are thinking about it - just buy it! Can't go wrong at this money. Heat added!

Just to confirm...

No Bluetooth (not essential, but enables you to connect and play music from any Bluetooth enabled device)
Optical in (yes) - newer TV's seem to prefer this connection (mine doesn't have a headphone jack)
Bass unit is powered from the soundbar via a wire - it is not wireless like some.

Me, I'd rather go for an all in 1 (bar and bass) - just for tidiness i think... but a good price.

Is the sensor for remote on soundbar and how many / which cables does it use? Can you do optical from tv to this?

For us mere mortals who cant afford to spend £500+ on a speaker for the telly but want more than Sony's old gear - try holding out for the daddy of sound bar manufacturers to lower the price of their entry level model...

Yamaha YAS101

It's £150 at the moment - which isn't bad when you consider where it started at £230! I'm still waiting for a month when nothing financially surprising happens in my life, and I might actually feel OK about buying it! Maybe by then it will have dropped even more.

Yes it has an optical input. SONY also include an optical cable in the box (which some others don't).

Almost about to buy, but does anyone know if the Sony TV remote (W6 series) will control the volume of this soundbar? Cheers

pretty sure your tv remote can't control it but if it helps, you can program a sky remote to do the volume .... If you have sky

Code 2200 for the Sky Remote if anyone purchases it. You press TV on the remote then up and down to turn control the sound.

Don't let the fact it hasn't got Bluetooth put you off, you can get a Bluetooth receiver for less than a tenner off Ebay.

If the soundbar doesn't have a HDMI input then probably not, because if it did you could use Bravia Sync (HDMI CEC) to control it with your exsisting TV remote.

Is a seperate sub the way to go ideally as apose to a built in one, like the Yamaha one mention above

Ordered, hopefully Quidco will track a few more quid off. Should go well with the KDL42W653 Sony TV.

This is a nice, entry-level soundbar. Here's how I set it up with my 32" Sony TV:

http://s29.postimg.org/mcld8gqhv/CT60_setup.jpg

As you can see it's wider than the TV and the power cable is rather short if you want to place the soundbar above the it. The other cables you can see coming out of it are the optical cable, a 5 metre 3.5mm to Twin Phono RCA cable so I can plug a music device into it and the cable to the sub-woofer.

The separate sub means that the sound can be quite bassy (you'll pick up the sound of a football being kicked) but I find it a great unit for understanding speech when the bass is turned down - conversations in The Wire suddenly makes a lot more sense!

Going to try it anyways. I got the ebuyer xenta one off here before and on some programs I've had to use subtitles! Sons of anarchy being a good example with all the gruffty deep voices!
