I think for the price you can't go wrong.

Except a friend has this and it’s literally no better than his Sony TV’s speakers...

Really? that's surprising... most TV speakers are terrible so you'd hope this soundbar would be considerably better!
Its average at best. Its defo an upgrade on my Hisense 43 inch telly. It sounds fuller and has better bass but no way near as good as the other sound bars I have: Samsung MS 650 and LG SLY7. It is however significantly cheaper but would probably only be good enough for a small TV room/bedroom.

I got mine from amazon.de when they had it for about 80 quid and is probably worth that much. This seems a fair price for it.

Got the HT-SD35 with the separate sub woofer and it's great. Far better than the TV speakers.

That’s how the guy at Curry’s convinced him He uses it in the bedroom now so not a complete waste. Maybe Sony TVs have generally good speakers, especially on larger sets with enough space.
is the MT300 and/or HT-S350 inferior to the SD35 though?

Went for the Sony HT-S350, hopefully it's an upgrade on my crappy 8yr old LG set up For £89 I'll take a punt, cheapest refurbs on ebay see to go for £149 and up and would rather by from Sony direct, 14 days to send it back plus full 12mth warranty etc..

Not an expert but I am sure someone else will comment on this.

Think you can extend the warranty on all their items if you want to.

I have the Mt 500 excellent sound quality, I initially went for the Mt 300 but it has no hdmi arc and can only connect via optical, so no good for me so went for Mt 500, the SD 35 and s350 are virtually the same and have hdmi arc so it's better choice
The souund quality of these is shockingly bad for its apparent size and price. My old pair of Trust 3D PC Speakers (from 2002) are punchier and give a more complete sound which I replaced the soundbar with after sending it back.
