Ok i have a bluray player & spent hours researching what the best cinema system was that was compatable with bluray (as most bluray players output sound via a hdmi cable)

After reading through many articles over at avforums i discovered that that the Sony HTSF 1300 was the best reccomended system as it's exactly the same as the newer HTSF 2300 system except the fact that it's black instead of tinted blue (which matches sony's tinted blue bluray players). Of course sony changed the colour & put up the price even know it's exactly the same system (greedy companies).

So this system has now been discountinued & HTSF 2300 is still being made at a higher RRP.

the next cheapest available that i've come across for this system is £412 at amazon
or £370 for the blue system (which is exactly the same)

There is a £10 off voucher available at the moment aswell to make this £324.

just buy logitech z5500...or the wireless alternatives.

anyway thanks for this ill vote hot as you did ur research

I imported my PS3 from the US last year, also searched around for a suitable AV home cinema system for my PS3 and found the HTSF1300 the best & most suitable (LPCM via HDMI for HD sound), so I bought this last year from Play.com for £295 (using £5 off voucher at the time, couldn't find a 5% off), this model had been available on Play for many months with the stock levels fluctuating, but now it seems to have been removed altogether?

EDIT: just saw the OP said it's being discontinued because the HTSF2300 is out, even though it has exactly the same spec as 1300 just difference front panel colour, RRP much more expensive, very cheeky move by Sony.

remember when buying from pixmania the items may need an adaptor as pixmania are based in france, although they owned by the "pc world" group but pc world, currys, dixons etc will not deal with any problems

you need to contact pixmania direct and they are not bound by uk consumer law either

but this one includes a bluray player right?
is there a version with just receiver and speakers?

Excellent system, got mine hooked up to a ps3 and a 42 inch Panasonic plasma. The speakers are wall mountable if you don’t want to use the stands, i have my rears on the wall. The sub will shake the room! (adjustable of course)

I did have a couple of “minor” issues with it;
i) the screws which fit the main pole onto the base don’t seem to fit correctly straight away, they have a very narrow thread but are painted. Screwing them in and out a couple of times seems to resolve this, but I really had to force them.
ii) 9 times out of 10 when i switch on the ps3 the colours aren’t right on the screen so i need to switch the system off and on or flick between 2 different inputs to get the colours correct. It’s (usually) just a quick flick but can be a little annoying.
iii) when outputting linear PCM (the high quality audio output) you cannot adjust the levels of the rear speakers – they are in a room of about 3m x 2.8m so the fronts over power them a bit – this probably wont be too much of a problem if in a bigger room.
iv) the single line display is a little annoying at first but you soon get to know the menus

all of these things are minor and i would buy it again knowing these.

Ps, i got mine from here rgbdirect.co.uk/Pro…300 about 7 months ago for £299 inc del (it was the free del but came the next day anyway) and yes, i know they are out of stock at the moment and couldn’t say if it is permanent or not due to the discontinuation but may be worth giving them a ring

Play were cheapest but don't have any stock left now, This is the cheapest you can get this for while there are still a few available. Once these last few are gone people will be forced to buy the more expensive blue version even though it's exactly the same.

Re-read the OPs first sentence. His bluray player only outputs sound (the hd sound formats) via the hdmi.

I voted hot because its a cheap price for this, but for £50 extra you could get a dedicated amp and speakers.

I know which I would be going for.

This is just a reciever & speakers, No doubt anyone who hasn't actually looked for bluray cinema systems will think it's expensive. But compared to the prices of other systems (you would be amazed how bluray cinema systems can cost) this is cheap & also considered the best system.

Bit of a misleading title this, nothing really to do with Blu-Ray specifically as it doesn't include a player.

It's not just my bluray player that outputs sound via hdmi but most bluray players. You can get bluray players with analogue audio out such as Sony Bdp s550 but you will have to pay an extra £100 - £150 to get the bluray player that outputs analogue signals.

depends on how you read it. im not having a go or anything like, im just saying. he could have left the blu-ray out, but what hes trying to say is this is the best system for that money..too hook up your blu ray player to,

Agreed - title needs to be changed. This is nothing to do with Blu-Ray - it would be like adding iPod into the title, or Xbox into the title - just because you can connect one doesn't make it relevant if it's not clear.

Was really excited about this deal then looked at the finer details of it not having a Blu-Ray player

my BD player is just the PS3 & I'm happy  took time & money to import from the US for Region A, but with Amazon UK BD sale UK discs are getting cheap, only annoyance is Fox locks all their discs to B, why? most/nearly all Region B discs comes out after RA, understandable to lock RA, but no need to lock RB.

and the HTSF1300 is pretty perfect for the PS3, even the colour matches lol

The point of having bluray in the title was not to mislead people buy merely to convay that it will work with bluray players as 9 out 10 cinema systems won't unless you have a very expensive bluray player that has analogue audio out.
As you can see by the peoples comment's who actually have this system & know what I'm talking about, it's the top cinema system.

Interesting review of the new Sony hardware here:

youtube.com/wat…iLs

yeah bought it mainly for the ability of the getting true HD audio via HDMI connection, getting a HDTV for HD picture, but most people are still using Optical for downgraded 5.1 sound, not HD sound, you really need a home cinema system capable of receving HD audio, and this does the job very nicely, compare to the £500 & upwards Seperate Amp+speakers people on AVForum talked about for their BD systems, I'm happy with what I paid, oh and I got £12 back from Quidco, so effectly paid £282.99.

I understand why the title upsets you because the word 'bluray' is in it (which i have now altered by the way), But without putting bluray in the title most people will just vote cold assuming it's just a standard analogue audio system (which it isn't).

I have posted a few links below for a few 'bluray compatable' cinema systems which you will see are more expensive than this system but more importantly not as well REVIEWED. Just to give you an idea of what most bluray compatable cinema systems are priced like.

I don't know much about the ps3's audio out connections but other posters comments in this thread say they have this system hooked up to their ps3's so obviously it works with it (i would be very surprised if it didn't)

if so, its a very gool deal, tempting...

yeah it works fine with the PS3 (even the black front colour matches too lol), I know because I got one hooked up to it as my main BD player, with all the settings on the PS3, system software updatable all the time, PS3 can even decode DTS HD MA etc, the htsf1300 it self can't decode compressed HD audio, so just make sure you set your PS3 to decode the HD audio i.e. set it to output LPCM, then the decoded/uncompressed HD audio will be output to the htsf1300, all done via the HDMI connection.

Not in the same league as the Sony system. The Logitech doesn't have a even single HDMI connector, let alone three of them.

For those interested, the HTSS1300 is the exact same system but with small wall mounted front speakers instead of the slim floor mounted ones. It can be had for a decent saving to the HTSF system as well, e.g. £259 ]here. I have one hooked up to my Popcorn Hour and DVD player and it's a superb system. The main amp is very slim, and thanks to the class D amplifiers is cool running despite a very respectable amount of power (though the 1000 Watts claimed is extraordinarily optimistic, especially given the tiny speakers). Integrates very nicely with my Sony Bravia TV as well. Compared to my full size Pioneer AV Amp driving large floorstanders and big active sub, the Sony sounds surprisingly good, much better than I was expecting.

Sadly I'm still waiting for delivery of my BDPS550 BluRay player (ordered in December from Dabs :x ).

just a quick note, the speakers are wall mountable, its just a shame the center speaker is so dam skinny.

My god that's a long wait, might be worth checking the following website for stock & prices.

I own this system, got it for £295 at Play when it was launched in July - this is cold for me. Fantastic system but when did the price go over £300??

I repeat, it's a fantastic system, one of the few which passess through several 1080p images over hdmi.

allready posted so edited

Hey everyone

First post on here so I'll give it a go....

Was going to get this system on Play a few days ago, then it comes up as out of stock, and now it isnt showing it all::x

play.com/Ele…tml

It was about £280 with the 5% off voucher, so it's disappointing...it's tricky to know whether to get this from Pixmania or not...

I bought this system approx 2 months ago for £285 using rac 5% voucher from play & i couldn't find it cheaper than approx £325 except for play at the time. To the best of my knowledge this has always been over £300 except for play who no longer seem to stock it which is no doubt due to the fact that it's been discontinued by sony.
I've only come across 2 places that still have this in stock, Pixmania for £334 or one available at amazon for £412.

Which means you either have to buy the pixmania one for £334 or get the HTSF 2300 version which i can't find any cheaper than £371 although it's exactly the same as the HTSF 1300 except for the colour.
The only other alternative is to hope play get some more but this isn't even listed on play's website anymore, So this seems to be the best deal around without being forced to buy the HTSF 2300 model which is just blue instead of black.

It's also worth mentioning that between the end of december & the begining of january sony annouced they would have to raise the price of their products in the UK (except the ps3) due to the poor performance of the £ against the euro & dollar.

I can't speak for all bluray players but a reasonable amount have optical (not sure about coaxial). Now i'm not an expert on audio connections but i believe that optical can only transfer 16 bit as apposed to 24 bit that hdmi can transfer. Also i think you need hdmi for true hd 7.1 signals as optical can only transfer 5.1.

To be honest i doubt there is a massive difference between 5.1 compressed audio transmitted using optical compared to 5.1 or 7.1 uncompressed pcm audio signals. Obviously it's hard for the average person to gauge these differences as really you need a few complete systems setup with individual tvs & players to properly compare the differences.

Personally i look at it like this. If your going to spend anywhere from £600 to £2000 for a great hdtv & say £200 for a good bluray player (not to mention the blurays themselves) & whatever an xbox or ps3 costs plus other possible items like sky hd.
You might aswell go all the way & get a good cinema system to complete the experience. Took me approx 9 months to complete my setup but it really adds to the gaming & movie experiences.

Hardly anyone has them in stock right now, the only supplier on that page that does appear to have them is Pixmania, and they carry a hefty premium (£309). The price at Dabs was about £200 at the time which is a decent saving (though would have spent the extra if I'd have known about delivery). It's now due in early March, I can wait for a while, especially as I have an up-scaling DVD player anyway. To be honest I'll be impressed if the BR player can noticeably improve on the picture quality of some of the up-scaled DVD's I've watched.
