Great camera - the cashback is also valid on the DSC-HX90V (£299) which has GPS (only difference I think). Both are a big improvement on the WX500 (a very good camera) if you want the viewfinder and the manual focus option. Very good deal OP!
whats the Amazon prime deal back please & where is info on Sony cash back
Nice find op
hmm, just been checking the Sony cashback small print. It actually states £50 cashback for this model in 2 places in terms and conditions and FAQ. So looks like their front end website is wrong or T&Cs are wrong. Suggest take a screen shot and do battle when you goto claim. Still a good deal @ £175. Did note currys were advertising this with £80 cashback as well, so more ammunition if needed or buy from currys but its collect only. Fun !
Yes I've been investigating the cashback and it's a bit weird, in a other thread for something also on Sony cashback deal they said they spoke to Sony and they wouldn't honour it if it was bought on a promotion but it's the same price as Curry's.... I've emailed Sony for confirmation
The 'standard' cashback is £50 but if purchased between 19th June and 29th July it is £80 - clause 5(b) of the Terms and Conditions. Can't see any reference to a requirement that the item must have been purchased at 'full price' or RRP, etc.
Did wonder why this wasn't posted. Possibly the best of the amazon, Sony deals
How does this compare to a top tier smartphone camera?

I'm no expert but from my experience, the phone will be a match (to my eyes at least) for"normal" shots but for anything at distance the optical zoom cannot be touched by any mobile phone. If you are in bright sunlight the viewfinder is also a godsend. There are also a whole range of features on these cameras (manual focus for example) that you may/may not use. I use my phone for everyday snaps as its always with me - but take the camera on holiday or anywhere I want decent pictures at a distance.
