Cheapest in the UK from what I can see, these are brand new TVs being sold for £70 less on eBay than in-store.

Ticks nearly all the right boxes, aside from has "HDR-lite" as this is an edge-lit TV. The jury is out on whether this is an 8-bit or a 10-bit VA panel.

Still some minor niggles to iron out (Amazon Video app does not output in 5.1, in-built video player forces everything to show in 16:9 - easily worked round by using Kodi, unable to record to HDD if using Youview) and rumoured the Android interface will be upgraded to Marshmallow at some point in time - links to owners forum threads in next post. The early day issues with Android interface have, however, all been ironed out, so don't let this detract you

Curry's Sony PR blurb:

New Manufacturer Sealed
There is an intact manufacturer's seal, and the item is brand new and pristine.
Some product boxes are unsealed as supplied by the manufacturer, these are still brand new, pristine, and listed as "New".
Items listed as "New" come with 12 months Currys/PC World Outlet warranty.

Do you still get the 5 year warranty?
Original Poster
Sadly not, only 12 months. That's the only (albeit major) catch. Well that and no Cash for Goals as well.

Not sure why they don't offer 5 years if they're brand new.
brilliant tv this. i have got one.
Better to buy from store for £849, you get a 5 year guarantee and cash for goals. So if you back England they are surely going to score at least 3 goals in the tournament which means you get £30 back!

But then they could have a miserable tournament, score no goals and get knocked out. Can't see it happening, but relying upon Cash for Goals to get a knockdown price may not be a surefire way to get a better price.

The RS/JL warranty may be worth the extra £70 IMHO, but for anyone wanting an interim TV until OLEDs get sorted out and the prices fall in a couple of years, this should do the biz.
great tv admittedly has a few issues (most notable ones have been fixed) and has uhd (yeah may not be full) I got 5 years warranty for free from Sony on the one I purchased, I'm not sure if currys are participating but if you email sony after purchase they will give you the warranty (I got mine from Sony centre)

email sony and they will tell your eligible currys don't need to.offer it (probably best to say you got it from currys not currys ebay)
just ordered(paid) this from curry's yesterday for £849, any point contacting them and asking to cancel or price match?

What's the best Samsung for this price?

Where ? The 65 incher had problems with blue edges to panels, but the 55 incher to all intents and purposes was trouble-free. The early reviews also focussed on the blighted Android platform, but virtually all these niggles have been eradicated now.

It's a highly regarded TV and there are plenty of happy owners on the forums I referenced in the second post.

Feature comparison wise you'd need to be looking at 8000, 8500, 9000 models and more likely the dreaded 'curve'. Also bear in mind Samsung use their own in house 'smart' system, whereas Sony use Android, which has a much wider user base and is unlikely to disappear in 5 years - could you say the same about Tizen ?

You can only ask - may also be worth pointing out Richer Sounds have today reduced their price to £799 with a 6 yr warranty (only available in store or by telesales however)

Yeah clayts but I hate curved tv's. What's the rival Samsung to this at a similar price?
I managed to cancel my order from curry's, and also return their £100 package, so in all I have saved £150 and only need to buy a wall bracket. Curry's staff are still saying you need gold plated £80 HDMI cables for 4k to work

it is pretty poor that this sort of thing still goes on, and it should also be clearly stated by manufacturers on boxes aswell.
