Also where can i find a detailed comparison between this and the 55 inch model please? I've seen people saying on other deals for this 49 incher that it is in some way/ways worse than the 55 inch version, but i don't know it thats true or not?

Apparently, from what I've heard it's around 6 inches smaller.

Cant see that would be the case.....
Got the 55" version...love it. Beware the Android TV though...go to a shop and try it to see if it's for you or not. Not a problem if you use an external tuner like a sky box or such. 4k netflix and youtube look stunning. Beware...not dolby hdr (whatever its called).

Dolby vision (HDR) won't be supported further down the line because the processor inside the tv isn't as good/ new/ advanced as the one in the xe93 but there are good and bad points about picking one or the other i feel, the hd input lag is higher on the xe93 than the 4k input lag and i dont think the xe90 has this issue, think i seen that on an avforums video.

Submitted a price match I'm torn between this and the 55 as currently have a 40 inch sony and not sure if the 55 is gonna look to big in the room lol.

(that's the software processor/platform, the hardware CPU is the same).

Sony's own brightness scaling is pretty good, so the dynamic metadata of dolby vision isn't a big deal so it would only really be for compatibility with any Dolby Vision exclusives that may happen some time in the future. Given all blu-ray UHD releases with HDR are required to support HDR10 that's unlikely to happen on films and there's no sign of the streaming services that are big in the UK doing it for their TV programmes.

The XE93 input lag in 60hz Full HD is still unnoticably low for all but the most picky, and if you're connecting it to a PC it'll accept a 120hz signal with reduced input lag.
In none techie terms whats the main difference between the xe80, xe85 and xe90 series? I've been contemplating on the KD55XE85 or the KD49XE90. From what i can see the xe85 has last years processor and the xe90 has better contrast/back-lighting than the xe85. Is that it?

Haha good one, but seriously is it the exact same tele with a smaller size 100%? I don't want to get conned with any worse specs because I didn't pay a bit more for the 55 inch one. Thanks.

I'm sure the 2017 mu series of samsungs is plagued with the same "back panel not being stuck to the screen properly" issue as the ks series of samsungs from 2016, no way I'd pay so much for Dodgy build quality, I plan on having my next 4k tv for at least 5 years.

So you're saying that the Sony is the better option? I do like the idea of the full direct lit array, but Samsungs always seem to score well on picture quality?!?!

Thanks for that, getting sick of looking, I just need to get one instead of analysing the specs, but then again, I don't want to have to be buying again for another 6yrs so its best to get the "right one" whatever that actually means!!
@frakison look at this youtube video.
Skip ahead to 3:05 and you'll see the issue i'm describing, unacceptable for me when you consider the price and that its a brand new tv, after owning it for a few years its just going to get worse.

I wish!

£145 off £949 which makes it £804.
JL told me they would never match a voucher price. Have people managed to do this ?

It's getting closer to that £800 mark that I need it to be at

Agreed mate, been looking at teles on and off for about 2 years now haha, but i also want the best deal possible, this xe90 is getting recommended by loads of people though so my brother has decided to go for it i think too.

I install TVs all the time and the Sonys are much better than the Samsung just bought the KD49XE8004 yesterday on eBay using the 20% off voucher from Currys for £529 delivered so happy with that the XE9005 is a cracking TV but couldn't justify the extra cash as its not the for the main room in the house but a bedroom

JL will usually price match where the voucher is displayed at the point of purchase, which it is here. I would just try again and have the following ready if need be:

"What about temporary or exclusive discounts?

We do consider temporarily discounted prices, including any publicly available voucher codes that are published alongside the product at the point of purchase, or on the competitor’s website. We don’t consider special prices that are only available to certain customers, for instance negotiated prices or prices for groups such as account holders, reward card or club members. We don’t consider prices that are only available through third-party websites, or with voucher codes issued to individual customers or groups."

Excellent picture quality, however if I were using the smart android facilities it would be a frustrating experience! The picture quality is superb and surely that's the main aspect you want out of a TV?

For me uniformity is very good with small dark corners and some very very slight DSE on football... Nothing too bad at all just me noticing it.

I haven't heard anything about the XE85 using an older processor, software or hardware. As far as I know It uses the same MT5891 and X1 as the XE80 and XE90.

Generally the XE80 and XE85 are similar. The XE80 is the smaller sizes (43"-55") and the XE85 is the larger sizes (55"-75"). The XE85 tends to get slightly better panels and has a couple of extras like theoretically better speakers (they're still rubbish) and an extra satellite tuner. The biggest difference in the range for picture quality is that the 55" and 65" versions of the XE85 get higher contrast VA type panels.

The XE90 introduces a local dimming system meaning better contrast, and a brighter backlight to take advantage of that for HDR
