Good value!

I have the 49" version. It's ok ...but the menu and TV Guide system is a bit laggy.

The 4k has not blown me away like I was hoping

I have the 8509cbu which is virtually the same but with 3d and possibly some other things.
The problem with 4k is that while lovely, it's not the same jump as sd to hd.
The youview stuff is rubbish, certainly wouldn't replace sky.

I have a top end Benq 4k monitor bought for £450, 27 inch. it's a great monitor but not worth all that money. remember the law of diminishing returns. once you get past a certain quality level you won't get your money's worth anymore. upscaled hd content does look really good. if a 4k TV also had HDR then it's worth it. but trust your eyes. view them in action.

i also have the 8509cbu great tv. if u want the freesat remember to disable youview. as for some reason u cant have both. so i use freesat freeview and sky through my set. also play around an adjust the picture settings. ur get a brilliant picture. theres plenty of threads on this

Great TV, I bought in April for £750, android is a little slow/delayed but no issues other than this. Has also been updated recently to support HDR.

Normal price for entry level 4k tv - same price in Argos

27" at 4k you'll need to be less than 1 metre from the screen to notice any discernible difference.

If you're using it as a computer monitor, then that's likely.
But if you're using it as a TV from a sofa, I'm not surprised you can't notice any difference.

Good price - but it has been for sale cheaper

The 8509cbu has triluminos display and had HDR update. This is the 8005, similar but different tv.

What was the lower price on the Sony KD49X8005CBU? Wondering whether to buy now or hang off for a pre-Christmas deal.

So many different model numbers and no real way of telling the difference
I'm after a Sony Android tv but not sure what's good and what's not.. looking at spending this sort of money

Some chatter about it being a 50hz panel which would explain why its so cheap. This information being obfuscated by them only mentioning the 200hz motionflow processor in the marketing.

Youview is brilliant on the BT digiboxes but terrible on these Sony TV's.

Turn it off from settings and use the normal Sony TV guide. It's much faster, and allows you to record programmes to a USB drive.

This might sound mad, but I find that if you stick it in Football mode it looks a LOT better!

Once you've used a decent Panasonic TV with Firefox OS you won't want Android anywhere near your TV. I just setup a friend's £750 Panasonic this week and I like it even more than WebOS. It's really fast and slick.

If anyone is interested this is a nice breakdown of the major update recently released for this TV.

flatpanelshd.com/new…056

Ive it for more than 6 months. The only downside is the android interface is a bit laggy, and I wish there is more RAM & faster CPU. And the Google cast is not working sometime, which has to restart the TV. Other than that, I still recommend it and I bought it for less than 599 last Christmas period, so can't complain much!

I've had this TV for about 10mths now. I've no complaints, the acid test being that I'd happily buy it again. It has had frequent software updates and the Android OS has improved dramatically, a helluva lot smoother. Kodi installs straight onto the TV from the Play Store.

I see the HDR being mentioned as being part of the the latest software update but to the best of my knowledge the X80 series wasn't included.

no hdr and updates do nothing if the screen is not build to support it. No hdmi socket to support it

I too have the 49" Sony and as everyone says Kodi is superb and with the android OS you can also side load mame and modbro

why did he need help setting it up? does he not know how to put a plug into a socket?

I paid less for the higher spec x8509, this is not a good price.

anyone as any experience with 4k TV and their PS4 ?

@Bermudaviper
Yes, the x85 was different series though.

I have the 49 inch version of this, with Youview installed, I find youview better layout them Freeview. I've have kodi installed with wookie build it performs better on this TV set then the quad core android boxes. Android works well, chromrcast is the best feature allows me to mirror phone or tablet without any lag. Picture quality is very good compared to my previous 5 year Sony tv. only downside is the Android interface can lag slightly but it's no big deal overall best smart system on any tv. GOOGLE voice works well to.

You can use science but self-proclaimed 'AV experts/aficionados' will still claim they can tell it apart! As someone with what is 20/20 vision, I am perfectly happy with 720p over 1080p (and normally take the former for smaller file-size and less buffering) so 4K is totally wasted on me. I admit as a party-trick on a 4K laptop it is fairly mind-blowing but not something I 'must have'.

Got this TV last year on Amazon Lightning deal for similar money, at this price it's a steal but I found with its IPS panel, the black level isn't that strong (compared to the VA panel in my old BRAVIA W-series) and really only chose this for bigger, 4K-compatible, Android OS, slimmer/more modern design and vastly lower power consumption.

Price good, size good, but to be honest this is towards the entry level end for sony. Go for the KD55X509 if you can find it as the panel is better supports 3d as per a comment above and is a better all rounder - motion and panning are better..

Can be bought from most reputable dealers example below from richer sounds with 6 year g'tee.

'smaller file size/less buffering'?

Are you judging your TV reviews on illegally downloaded/streamed content?

I've never seen anything downloaded/streamed that was better or even the same quality as a Sky HD box so it's no good to use as a benchmark.

Sorry have to disagree with you about Youview, works fine, and while it doesn't have the recording ability, it is by far the best TV software out there. Sky's new Q might good but it lacks easy operation and the Sky + box is the most awful piece of Hardware i've ever used, probably due to it being 12 years old and Sky milking it for that long.

paid 600 pound to Amazon last year for this tv great picture the menu and channel switching can be a bit laggy but i was well happy with the tv

I bought this TV from Sony for £599 refurbished earlier this year. Love it so much I bought a second one but the 65 inch model for another room.

Everyone saying is not a good deal in the comments but is the hottest deal today? Need a tv for my living but unsure if I should go for this

I am sure a software update will soon sort that out just like some of the older Sony models did to begin with
