Waiting for the tv guru's..... this might be the one

Guaranteed it won’t have something. Lol.
Inevitably at the price tag it’s not going to have everything. My comment more relates to the fact you could have the dearest panel but there will be a drawback. Getting a TV in this day and age seems to be a minefield what with all the acronyms and terms

Think it would make sense to include the 5 year warranty for an extra £50 making the price £588.99
It most definitely does not have a big price tag.

I have an XE70, I can let you know some things.

The picture quality is brilliant, one thing the professional reviews tend to agree on is that Sony TV's have great colours.

For HDR it only has 320 nits, for true HDR you are looking for over 1000 nits. All this does is limit the number of shades you'd be able to see, your blacks won't be true black either.

The smart function is not android but as of writing the apps available are the ones you'd expect.

Very low input lag, so good for professional gaming.

Menu can be complicated, took me ages to find the AV settings to switch the HDMI ports to enhanced.

Wish I hadn’t been in such a hurry to buy a new TV now as this is definitely cheaper than the one I bought. That’ll teach me to rush into things grrrrr!!

Think the only drawback with this is that it doesn't have android or true HDR as robot_rooster said?. But I'm reading on the net that Android is not all that anyway and can be quite sluggish.

AndroidTV is actually really good. Can run Skype/Kodi natively, and no need to use a chromecast too.

All depends what you would want the smart TV to do. I do not use them at all as I have a games console with all the features I need.

I think the biggest draw android TVs give is the variety of apps.

If you read on the net about anything you will always find drawbacks, researching anything tech is a big headache nowadays, for example the one review for this TV commented on the build of this TV being plastic and deducting points for it...I'm sorry but it's a TV, honestly don't care about the build, I'm not going to be carrying it around like I would a phone.

Why is Android important to these people if I have a PS4, Switch, Xbox One and Apple TV?

Because I have none of those in my lounge..... only a tv, Freesat box, and a android box..... which id like to get rid of lol. All the consoles are upstairs

Mind you the android box is only tiny so I could probably get away with having it stashed behind the telly on the wall and infra red extension sticking out somewhere.

is Sony KD55XE7002BU different from Sony KD55XE7002?
First of all, TVs are all over the map when it comes to picture quality, HDRor no HDR. ... Better-performing HDRTVs typically generate at least 600 nitsof peak brightness, with top performers hitting 1,000 nits or more. But many HDR TVs produce only 100 to 300 nits.19 Sep 2017

From consumerreports.org

I'M STRUGGLING!!!

How would this compare to a £400 hisense? About to jump on Google lol
I know this hisense is only 50 inch but it's been slated for having only 450 nits of peak brightness. This sony telly is showing around 400 on google but can't see it reflecting in the price...

This did briefly go to £519 over New Year on Amazon so I'm hoping it drops to that again before diving in.

Having spent a few hours reading other sites and some great advice from here too this does seem an excellent option at the price. Just a shame John Lewis sell a very slightly different model so I guess they wouldn't price match

Same thing, I believe it just signifies theUK market.
Good price.

Believe this is 8bit + FRC as apposed to 10 bit. Also app support is poor is my understanding....

Depends what you want from the TV as always - Heat added tho OP

Gone ahead with it!!! Thanks for your input. Is your tv on a stand or wall? Thinking about what wall stand to get. Cheers.
Good price, But I'd go for an 8 series or higher
Do you guys think I should cancel my order for Samsung UE49MU6400 for £449 from John Lewis and get this one instead? I’ve been reading up about the bleed issues of Samsung’s of late and dreading the dud panel issues plaguing them!

The issue with the Samsung is that it's an IPS panel, and you can't get away from the panel lottery with that technology. Even £1000+ PC monitors using IPS are a complete crapshoot when it comes to light bleed and uniformity. John Lewis are good about returns though and will collect the TV for free if it's bad, so it's not like you'd be stuck with a dud. Though obviously it's hassle waiting in for the collection and such.

This Sony is a VA panel, which are generally less prone to light bleed and have much better contrast, at the expense of poorer viewing angles. In most other respects they're very similar in terms of specs, such as colour reproduction and peak brightness.

Android probably.

That'd be a positive. I used one of the high-end Sony Android TVs recently and I though it was a slow and clunky mess.
I bought this for our family room for £529 from Currys pre-Christmas (price matched co-op electrical). I also have a Sony KD65ZD9 in my lounge, so a top end Sony set. I feel that this set has a great picture for the price and the lack of Android isn't much of a downside for me. The menus are really responsive, unlike my big set. The sound is pretty poor on this one though, you would want to consider a soundbar or similar because it's very tinny. HDR isn't really a thing on this set in my opinion - not having compared it with my big telly. I would recommend this set to anyone looking for this kind of size/price.

The android Sony TV'S are slow and Chucky. However image quality is excellent even with out of box settings.. so if you have android boxes etc you are sorted.
The £60 code has now expired
I bought this in November for £599. Really good tv. I use YouTube on it all the time. Great for console gaming thanks to low lag. Built in apps are fast and responsive. Been watching a lot of blue planet 2 uhd on the iplayer app. Spectacular.

I’m having a nightmare trying to get money back from a tv which was damaged upon delivery. I’d try get a price match & give them a swerve. Check their Facebook reviews
