This is one of the best performing LCD's of 2017. Amazing visuals and excellent HDR performance. Do NOT allow the edge-lit panel to put you off, the performance on this is amazing. There is no direct replacement for it in 2018 and it will continue to out-perform many of this years TVs.

Not bad, want a 65 though
It's sounding like the 2018 Sony TVs are nothing to shout about :-(

Edge lit? I thought it had a full array.
Very disappointing, was waiting for such a deal
Wow! That's amazing. I just got the 65 from JL. I hope it also comes down. This is an amazing price as it's still £1489 on JL

JL have them in stock. If they come down within 28 days, they will price match
One of the last chances to buy. The 9305 is being withdrawn and does not feature in the Sony 2028 range.

Despite being edge lit some people claim that it's picture is better than the FALD 9005 - but at ~£250 more it probably should be!!!! The 9005 IS being (marginally) upgraded and will be the "Non-OLED Premium Sony" for this year

As I said. STOP reading edge-lit and walking away. This outperforms most if not all 2017 LCD's without paying flagship prices. If you are disappointed because it is "edge lit" then don't buy - but you will not find another £1200 LCD that will out perform it - that isn't just opinion, that's fact.

Even out performs the 9305?
Had to return this to Richer Sounds myself. The OS is rubbish and always had issues with the TV and apps crashing. All really down to a very old chipset onboard which really struggles with android
Picture did look good though. I ended up getting an LG B7 OLED for 1500 and never looked back

The 9305 is a significantly more expensive TV with what is thought to be a less-good panel lighting system. It and the 9005 are close but, despite the extra cost and edge-lightning, some people prefer it!!!
Not available for home delivery. In store collection only, the nearest Currys to me with any in stock is 94 miles.
Not worth buying anything of significant value from curry’s.

If John Lewis have stock try them (or Richer Sounds) for a price-match

Between this and the XE9005 it really depends on what flaws bother you more really. Whilst this does have a significantly higher peak brightness for HDR viewing, the fact that it's edge lit does introduce some problems not present on the 9005. Chiefly vertical bands of blooming/haloing in darker scenes, which also affects the black bars on 2.35:1 movies. They really can't ever be truly black on this TV, since the LEDs are located at the top and bottom of the screen and so shine directly onto them. It's particularly a problem in darker scenes with a brighter object right at the top or bottom of the image, where you'll see an area of the darkness light up along with it. Of course, the 9005 has its own blooming/haloing issues due to the relatively low number of zones in its backlight array, but it's still the superior solution overall (hence why it's used in the ZD9, albeit in massively upgraded form).

Of course, this TV has other advantages over the XE9005 such as Dolby Vision support (though it's rather half-assed and doesn't work over HDMI), but the XF9005 addresses that since it has the X1 Extreme chip and creeps over the 1000-nit mark for peak brightness (albeit still lower than the 9305). Though it's also £500 more than this at launch.
Even if online curry's say they have no stock my advice would be to just go down and look. I went down yesterday to my local curry's and picked up the display model 65 inch 9305 in clearance

Guessing you ment me, got it for £1469 with 2 hdmi leads, a picture calibration disk and home delivery thrown in for free. Quite happy with the lot, and I still get the 5 year warranty

That's a very good deal. I paid 1689 just yesterday. It sucks that JL don't have the Samsung £200 deal off soundbars but as they are the only with the tv on stock, i had to bite the bullet.
Is the calibration disk easily accessible, i am going to need one.
Sony just swapped my XD93 55 inch for a XE93 65 Inch. Definitley a better product and cant recommend enough. Yes OLED will be better but you pay a premium

Yeah I got alittle lucky, still a cracking tv for both prices. Yeah a decent soundbar is next in the list. I've not used it yet but I don't think you really need it, it looks like it's just a step by step video guide of how to get the best settings for what your watching. I'll let you know once I'd had a look at it

Yes that is correct, with the recent price decrease no difference to pay

Currys took it back. I lost the 3D function as XE doesn't have it but no big loss

Even out performs the 9305?

No, the medum range 9005 model has better blacks using FALD full array local dimming but is less in every other department, the XE93 and above have the best 4k upscaling on the market out of any TV and also capable of a much higher eye piercing brightness in HDR, other TV's with the same brightness can only hold that limit for a few seconds before drastically lowering the brightness to save the panel whilst the XE93 can hold a high level of brightness for minutes way longer than the competition.

If you want the XE9005 with FALD but with the extra benefits of the edge lit XE9305 then you'd have to buy the much more expensive 75in only XE9405 which is basically a XE93 but with FALD, so if someone says there's not much difference between the 9005 & 9305 then there's no difference between the XE9005 & XE9405 which is basically nonsense, the XE9305 55in is the start of Sony's premium range

Bad experience with sales reps with little or no product knowledge that get upset when you question them, up selling and when they couldn’t fix/replace a defective TV was given a coupon rather than cash. This was years ago but since I have used high street AV stores with much better experience.

The last fee times I've been in to collect stuff and have a wander round I've heard some amazing streams of lies from their assistant. Last one was that usb 3.0 sticks won't work in your usb 2.0 laptop, so either buy a new laptop from us or buy a usb 2.0 stick from us.
It's a Sony .. poor support , lack of firmware updates , One for the fanboys

Same for me. I totally avoid buying anything from Currys for this reason. They will not give refunds under almost any circumstances. The problem is they get one of their muppets in store to test the TV, and they pretty much always come back and say it's fine, even when it clearly isn't. That can make returns a nightmare if you think the product isn't up to standard, because you can struggle to even get credit note, let alone your money back. Avoid like the plague
