No you dont - only if you want it wireless...

About as hot as the deals at all the other stores this TV is for sale in at £399 - all hot incidentally! (Comet, Amazon, Richer Sounds & Sony Centre) - though only the latter also includes a 5-year guarantee like John Lewis for anyone looking at getting this TV. I'd definitely opt for John Lewis if I was to buy it.

I've been looking at a getting a 32" TV, but the choice of places to buy this 40" TV for just £50 more is testing my resolve, and if it wasn't for the fact that I'll use it for my xbox (some reviews state the lag isn't that great on this TV), I'd probably already have given in!

Good Tv got one for my ps3 look awesome , u don't need any type of dongle for net,
net is very basic for facebook iplayer you tube etc ,
good point for me is I can download the latest films in HD throw them on a USB stick and plug it into tv and it plays them

hotukdeals.com/dea…238 Seems a good price for the 32 inch version of this if thats the size you're looking for but yeah i'm still slightly concerned about the input lag. Decisions decisions

get some decent homeplugs instead

Just plug ur Ethernet lead in back if u want the net on it

32" is £299 same as elsewhere. The question is, whch warranty cover is better. John Lewis / Sony? I can get this or the 32" from both providers.

Anyone know what the John Lewis warranty is like? Do you have to pay to return the TV if a fault occurs and the same question for the Sony one? Will have a look on google now but if anyone has first hand experience of either warranty provider then could they let me know. Cheers.

yeah of your router is going to be near the tv then this is the perfect solution, if however it is at a distance then homeplugs are the best option, the sony wifi dongle is ploy to make extra money...

there is a reason why sony are flogging off their 403, 503 models, they are ****!!!....bought my 37 kdl ex-503 for my bedroom , i'm regretting it ever since...wish had waited for the price drop for the panasonic -42G20B. £[email protected] moment with 5yr [email protected] hifi

I would always go with JL I've had to deal with Sony Centres for a guarantee and trust me it wasn't pretty.

Care to elaborate? I had a 40v4000 a while ago and ended up returning it due to ghosting issues, guessing this series is plagued with something similar?

hi when my bro purchased one of these sony tv's I did the research and found that you cannot use any dongle apart from the sony one (correct me if someone has made a hack since July). So I purchased him the Netgear powerline homeplugs from argos (you can get cheaper ones amazon though). Any homeplugs will do but just make sure you get the 200mpbs ones as these are capable of streaming HD files over your home network and also bbc iplayer hd streams perfectly aswel. The other beneifit of the homeplug for him has been he also uses the same homeplug for his laptop as the wifi signal in his room is not strong. Another benifit is the homeplug can be moved around the house, where as £70-£80 spent on the sony dongle will only serve the sony tv/bluray player. hope this helps

Brilliant deal...i nearly got this from Comet as my local sony centre was selling it for £449. I did see that comet had a decent glass tv stand for £50. Anyone know of a better deal for a tv stand for this tv?

Can anyone tell me how this tv compares to this one?

hotukdeals.com/dea…112

The freeview HD doesnt really bother us that much as it's only a bedroom tv, will be used for xbox. Is this one loads/any better?

Thanks

50Hz refresh rate only

Just ordered one, five year guarantee swung it for me.

Personally never been able to notice difference between 50Hz and 100Hz.

Has this got a built in dvd player?

Been waiting for JL to price match on this. Ordered one for my Birthday! Many thanks.

(No, it hasn't got a built-in DVD or Blu-ray player).

No

Some weird questions today or what?

Is this free delivery?

David Gill

Yip says normally within 7 days according to the website.

50 Hz Vs 100 Hz = very sensitive to flicker, if u watch sports than 100 Hz is the best

Can this play .avi / .DVIX and .mkv files?

David Gill

Can this play .avi / .DVIX and .mkv files?

dont think it plays mkv of usb (correct me if Im wrong) , I did try this when bro bought it in july but it did not work, it can play: (AVC/AVCHD/DivX/MPEG4), also see sony website for more tech details:

sony.co.uk/pro…403

if you have a pc, then you can install a media server on it (free) and that will be able to stream mkv files to it over your home network. I have tested the following:

ps3 server ***PS3 MEDIA SERVER***
serviio media server ( designed for sony tv's in mind)

pls google the above for details. hope this helps. Sony does not like their devices to play mkv, you will need third party apps /dlna software to load mkv files.

You can also purchase a NAS with media server software on it and put that on your network and your sony tv will find it and you will be able to see all your pics/movies/music on it....hope this info helps...

plastic cheap quality "slapped on" built (thats why it's light)....standard definition picture is very very very poor, images look blurry with a topup of bad colour reproduction and the worst for me is the black levels which very highly praised @0.06cd/m looks awful with backlight, hence dark scenes look greyish with seeping of light at the edges.

only get this telly if you're content with average pic quality that it brings using a cable/satelite box and are prepared to pay for pro calibration to get the best out of it. ps3 gaming is ok but just that!

i'm currently studying returns policy so i can take it back and get what i should have in the first place, G20.....and there i was thinking lcd were a match for plasma ..pah! pah! load of rubbish!

I want a new TV for my living room for watching films/tv etc and to use as a PC screen as well.Is it true that LCD TV's are better for PC screens than Plasma because i like Plasma TV's a lot and have A panny 37" in my front room.

Would a 42" Plasma be suitable for my requirements or shall i go for this one?

The 5 yr deal and price is tempting

Will this play blue ray rips through the usb ,anyone one know for sure?

nice, ordered, thanks

nice, may order this

After so much of thought ordered one. 5 year gurantee shifts towards JL deal. Heat added.

I was going to buy this but after reading the reviews it put me off buying this tv. Speakers are poor and poor picture on sd tv.
