Dodgy looking website. Are they OK?

Original Poster

Yeah hope so, ha ha. I ordered one earlier and their website takes you to a seperate secure HSBC site for payment.

Would personally buy from John Lewis and get the 5 year warranty and free sony surround system, albeit for £200 more total. You could always sell the surround sound system, must be worth something.

Just the TV i've been after and at a great price. :-D

However, i've just been on pricerunner to check out retailer reviews and i'm not too impressed. It's not available for collection instore and most of the complaints are about having to wait weeks for delivery. :?

It's got me thinking though

Looks like they've got some shops in Kent so you could always try a John Lewis price match.

I bought my W4000 40" from them. I asked for it to be delivered on the Friday (I ordered it on the Tuesday) and it was here - standard delivery too.

This is a cracking TV and I paid £150 more for mine 2 months ago.

This is about the same value as the (Sonex) Sony Centres are offering with the KDL40W4000 and 80Gb PS3 bundle. (note VALUE not Price) Add the TV and the PS3, and the Sony Centres are about the same if you wanted a PS3.

Looks good value for the TV - not sure about Teleworld, not a supplier I have heard of.

Nice spot the OP tho'. I'm hanging fire for the last-minute desperation before the end of Q4 financials. :santa:

Any heads-up on forthcoming deals appreciated by all. :whistling:

trust me guys, go for a 42" panasonic plasma like the TH42PZ80, i'm a convert to plasma....lucky i didn't choose this lame LCD.

I'm having nightmares right now! I can't make up my mind between the KDL-40W4000 and the KDL-40W4500. I spent today in the Trafford Centre John Lewis looking at all the options and the W4000 blows the rest out of the water. I then got home and started looking to try and get a price match (as has been mentioned, the KDL-40W4000 is on offer with the DAVDZ260 but I'm not really interested in that) and have now seen the reviews for the KDL-40W4500. It looks awsome but it looks like I'll be on my way back to JL tomorrow to see if it is worth the extra £200..........

You can get this tv with a 5-year warranty delivered from Cheap Electricals for £779.97 including a free Gold plated HDMI cable & Monster Inc DVD or just £698.98 without the extended warranty:
cheapelectricals.co.uk/aca…JLg

Otherwise Empire Direct are selling the same set with 5-year warranty for £799.99:
empiredirect.co.uk/con…00U

Personally I would pay the extra & get the model that has superseded it, the Sony KDL40W4500 with 100hz Motionflow technology. Also has been given 5 stars by What HiFi.

They're fine, they've had a nice shop just around the corner from where I work for a couple of years now.

Website looks terrible.

They even use Comic Sans...................... retards.

The KDL40W4500 is the entry level of this range. The key difference that I can see is that this one has fluorescent backlighting (like every LCD except OLED until now). However it's big brothers come with LED backlighting, raising the black levels to 1,000,000:1 (no misprint - that's an amazing figure). I;ve linked toa comparison site here: ]HDTVtest site

Ok - you do *pay* for the up-specification - and do you need it? Let's be honest, WHATEVER we buy will be of date next week. If it looks good to you then it's good enough.
** Correction (thanks that_bloke) - the LED backlight is on the KDL40X4500 **
JJ (standing offer to be a SONY tester - feel free to take it up SONY, see if you can change me from my lovely Panasonic).

I ordered my TV from these guys a couple of months ago - terrible experience.

Ordered it and then found it cheaper on Empire Direct so I cancelled the order...but they still came to deliver it!! It was delivered by the actual company and when I refused to accept the TV they asked me for proof that I cancelled my order...now I don't record telephone conversations so I couldn't provide any!

Guys on the phone are unhelpful and rude on some occasions.

May just be my experience - worth googleing them and reading other reviews before you order.

I'm looking for a new HD screen and was interested in the Sony 4000 and the new 4500 range. They both look great when playing BluRay, but I was very disappointed with the display via the inbuilt Freeview receiver. Since I'm going to be watching mostly TV via Sky HD, I am now looking at the Panasonic 46" plasma as I much prefer the picture.

There is nothing to not like about this amazing Full HD tv ... See for example: whathifi.com/Rev…00/ and it has won plenty of awards if you look. However I'm not sure I would buy it from this site without a firm recommendation. If you Google a few others you will find it is available for not much more than £700 at Amazon, etc.

Worth noting that many High St retailers have this at around £1k ! and nearly £1,100 at Sony.

I think you are getting mixed up between the X4500 and W4500 ranges. None of the W4500 range have LED backlights, but in the X4500 range the 40" version has the traditional backlight whilst the 46" and 55" versions have LED.

Slightly OT I know, but here's a review for the 40W4500 for anyone that's interested. whathifi.com/Rev…spx

Bloody hell damm feck ... I paid £500 more less that 1 year ago ... It`s an amazing television def worth what I paid for it, at this price I may invest in other for the Master Bedroom.

I would go for plasma myself as mentioned above

Excellent tv. Got it for a grand with bluray and 5 yr warranty from Sony store.

For £699 you will definitely not be disappointed.

They're a small home cinema retailer, a lot of them have sucky websites. Here's the site for my local one:

hylands.tv/

They're an OK shop, service is great but the prices are rubbish. From their website though they look dodgy as hell!

The TV is very very good. I got it from John Lewis 4 months ago for £950 incl 5 yr warranty. Teleworld are ok, at this price you would be waiting for atleast 4-5 weeks before they deliver

AFAIK Sony only gave away PS3's with the X series in Australia, I don't think they have done a similar promotion here in the UK yet. You could always get a 'free' PS3 for taking out a mobile contract for 12 months, see here: mobilepricehunter.com/sho…080
